Beast races running/swimming faster?

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2009 7:10 am

One thing that has always confused me is that playing an Argonian in Oblivion never made you swim faster than the other races. I think it would be cool if one of the benifits of playing a beast race would be that Argonians swim very fast, and Khajiit run faster than the other races (or maybe just have a far greater sprinting speed) and a better jumping ability.

EDIT: Perhaps a drawback of playing a beast race is that they cannot wear normal boots/helmets, and instead must wear much rarer beast boots and helmets that use the same materials (iron - daedric) as normal armour but are moulded for beast races. Normal boots and helmets can also been moulded into beast type armour, but it will cost you significantly at an armourer, or would require a rather high player smithing skill to perform (plus an anvil, so you cannot simply convert armour in a dungeon and chuck it straight on).

Well, they couldn't swim faster, but they did get to breathe under water. I know, I know, anybody can do that with a spell or magic item. But it is something.

Aren't Khajiit good acrobats? I think they should be better in jumping (and falling down unharmed) than the other races. Cats always fall on their feet. :)

Hopefully Argonians are better swimmers, and maybe even have better vision underwater. Khajiits have the night vision.

IMO Argonians should swim like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgrqcOKIAzU&feature=player_detailpage#t=40s just without all the spins and stuff.
And yeah khajiits should run on all fours for an extra fast sprint.

There should be negative aspects to being a beast too though, like not being able to wear boots and/or a helmet

Like in Morrowind. That's how I like my beast races. Don't humanize them just to be able to wear more armor.

If Khajiit can run faster, and argonians can swim without breating (and faster), I agree it has to be negative things, but not armorless legs/head.
Because if these intelligent creatures live in the world, there would be customised armor made by/for them.

I'd rather see something in form of skills to compensate.
And hey, other races have their own special skills.

Also, what always bothered me is that argonians had a spell that allowed them to breath underwater.
I'd rather see it as a natural ability that their breathing bar lasts a lot longer (like 2 mins)

In oblivion, didn't they just have a natural ability to breath underwater forever?

There was no spell for it, it was a natural ability.

With Khajiit and Argonians having the exact same body types as humans and elves this would make no sense.

Not really an acceptable arguement. There are dogs with the same body type as cats, but their behaviour is completey different.

It's a spell in Morrowind due to a quest that requires you to drown.
In Oblivion the ability is always on.

Argonians have the strong tail to use to increase swimming speed. Can't say what Khajiits have...More flexible muscles?

i was thinking....since argonians and khajiit have tails, how about a gameplay use for them?

maybe a 3rd melee strike for the argonians, using their tail to knockdown enemies

a khajiit with their nimbler tail could be used to strangle an humanoid enemy's neck to hold him in place for a few attacks.

I think cats use their tails for balance. This means better acrobatic skills. Also a cat's tail shows its mood.

That would be great. It's a strong tail after all used in swimming.

No. If that's the case male and female characters should have their own boots too, and hell lets add every race into the mix too.
20 versions of each item. Great! :D

I'm trying to say... If items adjust on whether the wearer is male or female and their size, the beast races really shouldn't get any different treatment.

Besides we don't even know what kind of feet the beast races will have.
