Beast races in Skyrim

Post » Thu Aug 12, 2010 8:49 am

Although I prefer Morrowind's more beast-style aka. with the more creature like looks, I would have to agree with Unit Alpha, I'm fine with Oblivions interpretation it makes it less awkward especially if it is like Morrowind's where beasts can't wear shoes, especially if there is special enchanted shoes like the Boots of Springheel Jak, that would be such a bummer if you can't use them.

You know, I thought that half the reason for choosing a race back in the older Elder Scrolls games was for fun, so you could limit yourself and make interesting playstyles. Apparently it's just all about the equipment...

What about beast race specific sandals and the like?

Make it like Oblivions. Morrowinds beast races looked like walking retards with fur or scales that could barely speak.

Considering I installed a mod to make my Khajiit's legs more human-like in Morrowind, I prefer the Oblivion style. I know there are many types of Khajiit though, so it's more accurate to say I prefer to play as the more balanced between human and cat type that Oblivion uses. It wasn't just for equipment as one person suggested in this thread. I just flat out didn't like the default Khajiit legs in Morrowind. I liked how they did them in Oblivion.

I dislike it when beast races are made to be more primal or less advanced all because they have animal traits as well. I'm glad Oblivion avoided that stereotype. The whole series probably avoided that though.

you realize that if you put like Morrowind up everyone is gonna vote for it, since they cant handle change in the games

That's a dumb thing to say. I picked Morrowind, and I played Oblivion first. I just liked how in Morrowind the Argonians are like lizards, as opposed to how they are just people withtiny tails and lizard heads in Oblivion.

Isn't it supposed to be like that ? People with tail, scales and lizard head? And Khajiit, people with tail, fur and cat head?
I think they look just fine in Oblivion , but yea, they need a little bit of work ...

They're beast races. They're bipedal and all, but they aren't related to men and mer. They were here before them, and would have evolved seperately. I don't think it was a mistake making them look different originally, that wouldn't make sense. Rather I think they just wanted to simplify the system for Oblivion so they made them closer to everyone else.

Beast-like beasts, plz. And by "beast" I don't mean "hulking behemoth with a bazillion muscles", that's not found in nature without mutations.

*Stealth bump thread* ;)

Reptiles with mammaries?
People with almost purely animal heads but human feet?

Please, don't let it be so this time around >.< - I'd happily eschew wearring boot if it means we don't have to look like complete retards this time around.

I don't think that "beastly" necessarily means that you shouldn't be able to wear boots. Just look at Lattice's post, not to mention various other games that can accommodate those forms of clothing on less humanoid races (WoW comes to mind, though that's not perfect either).

As mentioned earlier, there are multiple species of Khajiit AND there are multiple tribes of Argonians that look differently as well. I think the beast races should be much more than simple humans with different skin textures, a tail and a cat/lizard head pasted on. Morrowind did a good job of making them more unique but I think they could take it even further. Granted this would make it more difficult to program in variations of clothing to fit these different models and skeletons, but it would add the variety that I think they were missing in Oblivion. Let the the humans and elves have their own thing, but let the beast races actually be something different and interesting.

If nothing else at least give us some http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs50/f/2009/316/3/a/Argonian_Tales_sketches_1_by_Hndz.jpg head options, spikes and frills on the same base head didn't provide much variation for the Argonian players. And Khajiits could be so much http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs8/i/2005/309/9/8/Khajiit___Desert_Walker_by_SnowSkadi.jpg

Then again I hope http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs44/f/2009/154/d/2/Argonian_vs_Khajiit_by_Hndz.jpg are much better in their new engine/game :)

Either way, make them able to wear boots and helmets! Their feet and face are going to freeze off. :c

Honestly I prefer Oblivions beast races but Morrowind was cool too.

I would much rather have more diversity in them though to be honest. All the different kind of Kajiit in the world and you only have one type available? It gets kinda boring when they all look alike. Also more hair/manes.

Like I said, beast races could have their own types of armor that fits their body.

I rather liked the way they looked in Morrowind even if they had a funny way of walking.

The ones in Oblivion just seemed half-baked. Like if they just put an animal head and a tail on them, and then just called it a day.

The funny way of walking made them seem like an animal, and now even beasts have good posture.

I want hind legs. Including having to adjust boots I just found to fit Argonian/Khajiit.

I'd definitely like to see this

If you are a beast race, you aren't going to be stupid enough to go somewhere without your equipment. You are also not going to be dumb enough to not wear shoes in the snow.

Make beast races more beastly in Skyrim? Or not?

Absolutely, I was absolutely horrified when I saw what they did to them in Oblivion. Ok they could pass under the lore by being civilized, but in Skyrim I wanna see 7 feet tall Khajiits with huge ragged manes, and as twice as muscles as any normal human has in some wild fur armors etc. Like some Khajiiti style barbarians.

As for Argonians, no idea, they are pretty much messed up there in all the snow being lizard like haha. Maybe too much clothes and always sticking around by fireplaces? :P

They should be beastly because they are beast racess. I want wood elves to be more cool and less nerdy and horrible like in Morrowind and Oblivion. In Morrowind I went out of my way to avoid wood elves because of that horrible high pitched voice.

I loved Morrowinds, it made Beast Races feel more unique. As an argonian lover, our kind don't need no stikin boots.

I think they should be more varied, Like Subraces you pick Khajiit then are asked about subrace are you Suthay-raht, Ohmes, Ohmes-raht etc... although beyond what I've mentioned I don't think many would be actually playable.
