Beast Races!

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 5:31 am

Beast feet have been confirmed.

there is a picture of one of the devs wearing a tshirt with skyrim creature sillhouettes... one is an argonian with morrowind style feet.

I heard that shirt was an E3 collab of the various baddies in the games featured, Bethesda's entry was a dragon.

And on top of that, if you're using a T-Shirt with a silhouette on it as evidence, you're reaching a new level of desperation.

Are you even reading what you post? You just suggested "Oh, Bethesda should make it real easy for you at the beginning so it makes up for you getting your ass kicked by bandits like Oblivion, at least the game will look the way I want it to."

It adds depth! The races don't need to completely balanced, its a one player game. It is more fun to have some with bigger differences in their strengths and weakness imo. Also my stealth characters (who have limited magical abilities) benefit greatly from night eye and water breathing.

Can you link that picture? And if they have beast feet then they still might be able to wear shoes... you saw their heads in Ob right? They could still wear a full helmet...

We'll see how desperate I am when I start up skyrim and make an argonian with morrowind feet.

Has anyone even seen the Argonian concept art? They don't have human legs but not over the top Morrowind legs either.
They looked good, and honestly I'd rather have Human legs for them than the Morrowind ones, they were just awful in so many ways.

Oh and if I remember correctly, he was wearing boots.

no he wrote that the basic advantages of the beast races should more than make up for the loss of a shoe spot, nighteye resistance to poison and jumping better will not make you play in God mod at level 1 its just a cool advantage like:

1- I don't ned breathing potions im and argonian
2- I don't ned a torch im a Kahjit

its not like if u face a dragon u can shot laser at him form level one because ur a beast race

and besides people like u seem S... out of luck cause by the looks of it beast races have beast legs so :meh:

Beast races could wear boots in daggerfall, I'll be fine with boots, but i don't think they should wear full helmets, unless they give them a special look for beast races.

Pretty sure that the t-shirt itself features all of Bethesda's entry for E3. So along with Skyrim, there's stuff from Prey 2 and Rage as well(that hulking beast on the left of Skyrim's giant seemed identical http://www.rage.com/images/site/gallery/screenshots/vsig_images/rage-7_837_469_90.jpg from Rage). So it's still uncertain at this point.

Depth, uh-huh. This IS a game that removed the depth of classes and attributes to make it less of a number cruncher. Playability comes before depth, especially when the depth argument is being used on aesthetics.

We'll see how desperate I am when I start up skyrim and make an argonian with morrowind feet.

You're only digging your own grave deeper and deeper... If you had a solid render, I'd believe you, but all you have is a T-Shirt.
no he wrote that the basic advantages of the beast races should more than make up for the loss of a shoe spot, nighteye resistance to poison and jumping better will not make you play in God mod at level 1 its just a cool advantage like:

1- I don't ned breathing potions im and argonian
2- I don't ned a torch im a Kahjit
...

Did any of that ever happen in Oblivion? No. The only parts you were forced to dive under the whole time was a DB quest and the Dreamworld quest. The Dreamworld quest gave you enough water breathing potions that you could only drown if you tried and the DB quest warns you that you're fighting an Argonian that loves to swim, so you should have brought a few water breathing potions or an enchanted item that would give water breathing. Also, I never used my Night-Eye spell, I could see the bad guys in dark locations with no problem at all, and even then, you could always buy or make a Night-Eye ring and that spell was useless. Remember that generating light gives you away? So spamming a Night-Eye spell was a bad idea when your opponents could have a high sneak.

The personality.

briast RACES

That was hilarious.

On topic, I just want the beast races to have armor that shapes to their snouts, and feet.

Having no shoes isn't just aesthetics, it changes gameplay. For example my argonian in MW never got poisoned by a trap, but he could never wear the boots of blinding speed. Or in the thieves guild in Oblivion if one couldn't wear shoes, then they would have trouble in the last mission. They would have to find another way to boost their acrobatics skill. These little changes in a beast race play through do add depth, it reminds you that your playing a character that is different from everyone else :celebration:

Beast feet for beast races adds more immersion.
Of course you can say that it's hard to think of yourself as of a bipedal lizard with no shoes, but it's your own problem.
If you want to play any race you should get over it's advantages and disadvantages.
This discussion reminds me of Mortal Kombat forums discussions "Oh, they've made Baraka unplayable and he is a low tier!" You'd better learn to play every specific character (race on that TES occasion) then whine about a removed slot for enchanting, armour, etc.

Exclusive equipment for the beast races is fine too though I have doubts this would be implemented.

You may like being limited in game and restricted from some real good items, but I don't. And that fall would kill you if your acrobatics skill wasn't high enough. "Oh, lets add in shoes, make the Khajiit and Argonians get them like everyone else, and tell them to use the boots to survive a multi-story drop. But they can't use them because they have aft-jointed legs." RESULT: Whatever the hell is in the sewers will be eating well tonight because teh beast race player just hit the floor so hard that he molecularly binded to it.

Balance will take priority over depth, because the programmers and designers aren't going to redesign half the game to make two races viable for game play and have aft-jointed legs.

Or maybe boots just shape after Beast race legs, like they do for every single other race and gender.

I DID play Morrowind, I completed the Thieves Guild quest chain on an Imperial and a Khajiit, and the ability to wear two extra pieces of armor made it where I didn't have to turn the difficulty down.
