The few interesting things they had weren't that... interesting.

Will-O-Wisps? LAME.

Spriggans? Meh, seen it. Bring on the Ents!

Minotaurs? Okay, that was cool...

Mountain lions? "Doot doot doo, walking down a dirt path, just mindin' my own- AAAAGH, WTF?! WHERE DID THE BIG KITTY COME FROM!? AAAAH, ITS ONE BAD LITTLE FURBALL!!! AAAAAAHHHH!!!!"

Actually, that is one connection that I would dearly love to have expanded. Do the moths have a purpose in the mystic activities of the Moth Priests, spore dreams and scroll-reading...

Presumably yes, since the moths are their ancestors. Vehk's Teachings calls their teachings Ancestral-Mothism, which implies they're more than just a symbol of the order. Also, Nu-Hatta swears by the respect of every ancestor in his beard, which is probably a reference to the fact they wear the moths like a second skin, maybe like http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/3093826.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=552D90A84D8CF980E7588950FB637651A55A1E4F32AD3138.

I so, so wish we could replicate that without it looking like utter crap. So far, though, we can't. :(

Aye, worry not. The moth priests will have their posses, and we'll add some background on them as well.

Also, I have a real-life model for the moths, now. http://www.mothindex.com/images/tolype.jpg.

EDIT: Link is fixed nao. ._.

Is the Tolype a Gypsy Moth?

Tapestries? No... what I'm after is a moth beard. Not easy to pull that off.

Nope... it's a "lappet moth", apparently. I considered the http://typhoon.wcp.muohio.edu/western/insects/moth_excellent.jpgas well, but I decided they weren't "ethereal" enough.

I've derailed this topic enough, though. Want to discuss some more? Bump the thread. :)

It's injustice. Cyrodiil is the only historically-accurate portrayal of medieval Oregon.

Or somewhere else in the west. Seriously, though, Mountain Lions are bigger then leopards; they're dangerous animals.

They're no match against Pinarus Inventius. He can kill 4 hungry mountain lions and all they can do is make him unconscious.

Morrowind was supposed to have alien flora and fauna, completely different from the rest of the world. Except the rats and the non-Argonian NPCs, there are no mammals portrayed there -- just reptiles, bugs, arthropods, and giant flying mutant jellyfish. Oh yeah, and slaughterfish.

That said, I miss the sea dreughs (they were there in the Iliac Bay after all) and there were many more other mythic creatures from older games they could have placed. Presumably, they didn't include the medusa, lamias, harpies and nymphs from Arena and Daggerfall because, hey, boobies are completely forbidden in today's America. But they could have added giant spiders, ghouls, lizard men, giant scorpions and mummies.

I thought because they where smack in the middle of everyone that they would have the most animals from all the other lands that border them

Yeah, no. The Velothis Mountains are a natural barrier that prevents the oddities from Morrowind from pouring in Cyrodiil, and vice-versa. Morrowind is surrounded by mountains on the West and South-West, by jungles in the South, and by the ocean on the other sides.

They couldn't bring back the lizardmen, giant spiders, ghouls, giant scorpions and mummies because then they'd have to invent new lore for them. And it would make Cyrodiil seem like a very strange place.

But at the same time, they had Argonian mauraders, Land Dreughs, zombies and liches to replace them.

I miss the sea dreugh too. I've been curious about them ever since Daggerfall, as they're one of the more unique monsters. I don't think plundering the bestiaries of Greek myth are a great idea for including monsters, though. I'm not opposed to http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/hamlets_mill/hamletmill_images/selqScorp.gif more http://www.pinktentacle.com/2008/02/edo-period-monster-paintings-by-sawaki-suushi/#comments monsters, but I'd rather not play a first-person version of Titan Quest.

Lizardmen, fair enough, we already got them.... but why would they have to invent new lore for giant spiders, giant scorpions, ghouls and mummies? Some are undead, some are part of the wildlife, and they certainly didn't offer any explanation when they plonked down the minotaurs.

Screechy screechy big cats still don't match up against Fabricants and, dare I say, Cliff Racers

ACK! NOOOOOOOOO!

Juib! Hey Juib! We need help!!!!

Hey, wait. That's a Beatles song isn't it?

"NA NA! NA NA NA! NA NA NA! Hey Juib!"

Yeah, I would've liked to have seen some sea dreaghs as well. Maybe near Leyawin, since the Niben empties into the ocean.

I'm almost more scared of the Mountain "cats" of Oblivion then of the fearsome Cliff Racers of Vvardenfell.

well that might be to their attitude, while those fearsome cliffracers attacked you on sight and where more dominant on Vvardenfell than the sixht house, the dwemer (constructs) together these sweet mountain kitty's don't just attack you on sight they go hunting for you.

Cliffracers svcked. Amen. But seriously, Oblivion should have had more water creatures. Other than the ones from SI of course.

I kinda like it. Like others have said, bizarre alien creatures belong in bizarre alien landscapes. I can't imagine an Alit or Nix Hound wandering around the West Weald. Though I would have liked to see more aquatic creatures than just the slaughterfish and mudcrabs.

Sisera you can't imagine it becuase Cyrodiil was not portrayed correctly in Oblivion.

Believe it or not, it's a jungle. I would ahve loved if Bethesda had hired an imaginative cocnept artist, like someone with the initials MK. Ratehr than the general stock, unimaginative with a sense of false granduer in ability and creativity, but actually totally unininspired concept artists.

Why were Mudcrabs so marinal? They are MUDCRABS, not seacrabs. That annoys me, immensely. Someone could ahve actually drawn soemthgin cool for that, but instead Bethesda porbaably paid them to essentially copy a photo of a real crab.

1+. Seeing as Oblivion's creatures were relevant to the province, I semi don't understand why people are really trippin' off of the "unoriginality."
