Beasts of burden

Post » Sun Dec 27, 2009 10:47 am

I only ask this because I loved having wagons in Daggerfall, and have always thought we needed saddlebags added to the horses in game and things like backpacks this lends an air of belivability to the fact I am carrying extra sets of armor and all these extra weapons around potions and all, love the idea of having to rummage around in a wagon looking for items as well as a place to sleep, maybe a small mini quest to get it then hire guards to travel with you to drive it and guard it also......... throw me your ideas on this please

Pack Guars like in Morrowind, although I doubt the poor little Guars would survive in Skyrim :(
Perhaps pack Bears?

Actually had thought on this one maybe sled with sled dogs but I dont think the whole place is gonna be snow if you look at it geographically it is in same zone as Morrowind so should have somewhat temperate areas outside of mountains

I would also like to see a choice of beasts for riding and as beasts of burden like mules, or bears or as already mentioned sled dogs

Senche-Raht! They are twice as tall as the average Altmer and rather fast, tough and armed, I'm sure they could handle a couple hundred pounds.

Yes quite right but that would fall more under companion/guard and I want to see alot of baggage as you accumulate it and I want to be able to put up a camp also not just stumble around looking for them so I can rest and lvl/heal or what ever you know

Pack-horses (or even mules) would be awesome. Or even pack-cliff racers. Oh, yes. On the other hand, if they implemented sled-dogs, I would be ecstatic. Or even single pack-dogs (cold weather-friendly dogs that could carry bags).

Better yet, we should have companions like in New Vegas. Imagine the possibilities if you could have a mage healing you and tearing sh** up and an archer for ranged support (or any combo if you prefer to be an archer or a mage). I would love that.

Hell, wagons would be the ultimate addon to this. If they made the possibility, then it wouldn't be long before modders made portable homes etc. I'd like to see something like a drivable carriage too.

I think a better beast o' burden would be a hardier animal. Something like a musk ox, ox, donkey, camel (they live in wicked cold places, too, you know), bison, or some other similar creature that has stamina and is relatively self-reliant.

I'd love saddlebags for the horse. I used to kill my immortal horse and store things on him but it was... stupid.

And wagons would be great.

Lets keep listening to those pod casts and hope that in January something about this stuff may be mentioned, as they plan to release alot of info then it sounds like, and I am hopeful this subject is covered at least a little.

the only reason I bring up airships is it is no different then allowing levitation into the game again and in daggerfall we could buy different sized ships to use as storage places and to travel was way cool.

Pack cliff racers. Yes — except that then we'd be guaranteed to have hostile ones back. I think we all remember how that went...

I concur that something more like a bantha musk ox or yak would be awesome though. I would certainly love something along those lines to come into play.

we keep talking like the whole thing is gonna be in cold climate and the fact is it is only gonna be cold in the mountains and it has a lot of them but it is in the same latitude as morrowind so in actuality there should be no difference between there and skyrim climate wise. So I think its gonna have a varied climate just like Oblivion just a lot more harsh variables due to deep valleys and really high mountains.

Can't say I'll use the idea myself - still can't find where I parked my horse in Oblivion, and I even manage to mislay whole houses. -_- Aesthetically, though, I can see in the colder region a sled with dogs working just fine.

And yeah, carrying all that stuff yourself just don't make any sense. Packing ought to be a bit more realistic. It'll make it tough to loot, but well, that's what feather spell is for.

I think a companion character like a slave goblin or a pack troll would be cool also, but I really want to see less of companion characters and more in the way of weak guards and slaves added to the game so I can purchase as many as I desire, but they dont really have much to offer in the way of actual combat skill staying several lvls below me and lvld enemies so at most all they do is be a distraction to enemies and are easily replaceable so I have a reason to keep buying them as I travel about.

I have stated b4 that I would like to have guards of different types and slaves of different types that have their own small motions they go thru when left in areas like guard characters will wonder around in a small area actually guarding ( like if a mudcrab comes too close they would attack it or bandit but not be tough enough to really be helpful in a fight like a companion character in say fallout was), and slaves have motions directly attached to the type they are like a miner slave would go thru motions of using a pick axe, or a plantation slave going thru the motions of gardening, or house slave the motions of cleaning, cooking, ect,.

I really love the idea of hiring guards from the fighters guild or slaves from a slave market or a mage to make potions or whatever.

Give the adoring fan a huge hiking pack and force him to carry everything you can fit, which would be up to 12 times his weight.

I would also like to say I would like to impliment no more then say 4 people in your group at a time so say you are taking 2 slaves to your stronghold/plantation or mine you can have 1 guard to help you and if you get attacked by bandits or creatures you might loose them all it would just make the game experience that so very much richer for me without straining the ability of any game engine at all
