Beaten the game 4 times, still want to have fun with the gam

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 3:33 pm

Ive beaten fallout 4 times with diffrent weapon skills, small gun, unarmed, melee, and energy weapons. Ive done all of the DLC but mothership zeta. What are some fun things to do in the game other then the main story and some of the side quests? What are some mods that add fun to the game rather then just over powered weapons and armor?

honestly most mods are great for adding time to the game - for instance, im on like my 4th start with FWE (+many many others). sure, they add a few more tiers of weapons and armor, but the general consensus is that no weapons are overpowered and no armors are impenetrable. (even drugged up on morphine with power armor, getting 95 dr might be easy, but by no means does it make you unkillable)

Anyway - Im of the opinion its fun. Try it out for yourself :)

For the record, my first runthrough with FWE was very similar to my first runthrough of FO3 alone - it brought back that feeling of 'how the hell am i planning on surviving this' that you lose after a few plays. Even a few restarts, here and there it gets tough.

Make a new character. This time try to get all your skills to 100 and try to collect all the unique weapons/Armour, items, etc..

I prefer to explore, rather then focus on the main quest. So I'll do the first part of the MQ at around 4-7, get down to RC around 8-10, checkout JM around 11-13, now I'm level 18 and have yet to go looking for dear ol' Dad after that point. Basically, don't rush the main quest (the same was true in Oblivion).

Keys:

- Random Bobblehead mod, now you won't know where they'll be
- Choose_XP, change to 33% or 50% after level 8, then go exploring
- Mods, mods and more mods (MMM is a favorite)
- Explore, explore, explore, find all those places that aren't part of the main quests

(The XP change is so that I don't level up too fast just from exploring. As random exploration + MMM increased spawns tends to mean fast leveling.)

At a guess, I'd say it's a fair bet that you've never been to Tacoma Park, for instance. Go there in your early teens.

Maybe you could put some restrictions on the game to add some difficulty to the game. Make it so you can only carry 10 Stimpaks, 150 rounds of 5.56 and 2 bottles of water, for example.

Along with that, try and give your character a personality. Instead of you deciding for your character, make it so he/she makes choices they would make -- it adds another dimension to the game because you're playing from their perspective, not your own.

You might want to consider something like FWE or Arwen's Realism Tweaks. Both change the game in ways that make it much more challenging. Also get CevSteel's DC Interiors mod, it will give you a bunch more building interiors you can explore.

Here's the link to the DC Interiors thread:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1104284-dc-interiors-project-dupont-circle-and-the-waste-land-edition/

Here's the one for FWE:

Also look into Savage Wasteland- Unfound loot. It randomizes most of the hand placed items in the game so you can never be sure what you'll come across. The only things he hasn't done yet is the weapon component items and the general clutter, though he's planning to. He's also thinking about randomizing the locations of the Bobbleheads and Skill Books. Here's the thread for that one:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106005-wiprel-savage-wasteland-20/

Last but not least, here's the link to Arwen's tweak's:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1104662-relz-arwens-realism-tweaks-thread-no9/

FWE and Arwen's Tweaks aren't fully compatible and do many of the same things as each other so you'd need to choose which one you'd prefer, but not both.

Make it so you can only carry 10 Stimpaks, 150 rounds of 5.56 and 2 bottles of water, for example.

Another good option along those lines is using a mod that adds weight to ammo and meds. That forces you to think about how much you're carrying around with you.

You need new quests too: Vault 101 Revisited, The Librarian:Orion's Gate, Arefu Expanded, In the Shadow of the Swamp, TecVault (house mod with a good quest attached), try being a slaver with FNNCQ and Sybill's Secret by sesom, eXcalibr- Book of Earache, etc etc etc.

+1 for mods! (thanks, GhoulsR, for the list!)

So far I've only tried FWE, D.C. Interiors and Arefu Expanded, and I love them! They add so much stuff, and make the game world so much more real.

Plus you get the bonus entertainment of all the fiddly bits you go through learning how to install mods if you've never done that kind of thing before. hee hee. it's not THAT hard, heck I did it, so anyone can. And the mod community is great, really helpful.

make it realistic like for instance have only

1 primary weapon(e.x- asualt rifle)
1 secondary weapon(pistle in theory)
maybe a combat knife on ur belt
a couple of bottles water
avearge armour like combat or normal cloths not power armours and stuff
when u get injured u have to return to a doctor to get healed
don't ever use v.a.t.s if u can live with that lol

just realistic stuff like that not like carying a fatman and a gattling laser in ur pocket

last time I did that there was no one left in any town other then children. Redhead chicks are psycho...

@ waste mong
I never use vats. Its to slow for me to deal with. I just like to run in and shoot stuff on my own skill

Ill check out FWE in more detail, it sounds good. Its late here or Id check the other things you guys mentioned but revisiting the vault sounds intresting.

I'm currently having bucketloads of fun with the Real Time Settler NW mod.

Something about starting up, building, decorating and running your own settlement in any place or wayyou deem suitable is something i find totally in the spirit of Fallout and has already granted me many extra hours worth of gametime.
