They're climbable. Do you know how many people they'd piss off if they weren't? Besides, High Hrothgar is at the top of the highest mountain in the game and you have to go there for the main quest. Would it hurt to do some research?

High Hrothgar has stairs leading up to it. That's not the same as mountain climbing.

What would be the point of unclimbable mountains? Especially in a TES game. I can't believe some people actually believe you can't climb them.

Oh, did you think we were going to actually scale the cliffsides with our hands and feet? Or perhaps use some ice axes for extra support? No, I'm afraid that will most likely not be in the game.

I'm expecting a lot of areas to be inaccessible due to steep slopes.

Anybody who says you can't climb them is either a [censored], or new to the series.

YOU CAN CLIMB THEM!

Not only have THEY SAID SPECIFICALLY THAT YOU CAN CLIMB THEM in podcasts, but that's also part of what the TES games are. You do anything, go anywhere, climb ANY mountain.

Now why would that be true when the highest mountain in the game is accessible? There's no reason to keep us from reaching any peak in Skyrim unless they look like http://www.jonathanrosenbaum.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/cliffhanger.jpg.

Bah, in Oblivion I could scale 85 degree slopes (seriously, I think in the mountain range south of the Jerrals (forget what it's called), there's a 85 degree slope), all you have to do is walk forward/up long enough and you'll slowly move. :D

I'm sure it's safe to assume you can't do that anymore. Not that you'll have need to.

Not like you could three games ago though. But that would make it so they'd have to take something else into account when designing the levels, can't have that.

I'm getting flashbacks to Morrowind and Oblivion days of pushing 'forward' and 'jump jump jump jump jump jump jump jump jump jump jump' and sometimes it would work, and sometimes not. Sure looked weird, though

he said the opposite. he said the game world, though comparable in size to oblivion, will feel much bigger, partly because there are some mountains that you have to go around making some journeys longer. it was the game informer podcast. so i am guessing that some mountains will be scalable, some won't.

Because highest doesn't mean "too steep to climb at every point".

Hm... I always felt in Oblivion there were some places I really felt I should be able to go up but couldn't. Not run up, but at least trudge up slowly.

I guess you didn't see the "unless they look like http://www.jonathanrosenbaum.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/cliffhanger.jpg" part of my post. I thought it was self explanatory. Apparently not.

I did see that, but it didn't change what you said. They said many places would not be accessible due to steep slopes and you said that would not be true because the highest mountain is accessible, even though that needn't correlate to steepness. I was pointing out this unusual logic. I'm not sure what the point of the last point is. It's basically saying "unless there are steep slopes" which is what they said anyway, except that the picture you linked had slopes steeper than necessary to block someone off.

Well then... you over looked it because that was my point.

No. In fact, you cannot go anywhere in Skyrim. You begin the game in a lookout at the top of the highest mountain, and the gameplay revolves around putting pennies in a telescope so you can get a better view of all the other highly detailed cities and meticulously planned-out dungeons that you cannot explore or even get to.

Should a petition arise,
I shall sign it.

High Mountains = Too steep of a path = Must climb it thru sheer force, and a hook.

Maybe with this being a glacial world they may be appropriate items for sale like spiked boots for climbing or snow shoes etc? That would be a neat way to deal with climbing these mountains, you have to have the right gear.
