You have a point about society determining concepts of beauty.

Beauty means different things for different people

Unfortunately for you Lcars the majority of people don't seem to agree with your conception of Beauty

Everyone has their own ideals on what beauty is or is not

Well, Lcars does have a point about runway models; I think I could be forgiven for believing the fashion trade does not want actual women but rather walking clotheshangers. (This may be an emerging market for those creepy Japanese gynoids.)

My grandfather would anathematize discussion of who or what is or isn't beautiful by saying "'Everyone to their own taste', said the old woman as she kissed the cow."

Beauty is as beauty does, not as beauty looks, anyway.

Is this the right spot for a "Where's the beef?!?" reference?

Maybe a better example would be Lady Ga Ga. (nothing against her by the way I like her music and shes surprisingly a very nice person)

but http://entertainment.msn.co.nz/img/blog/jan09/blog210109_gaga2.jpg

Yeah, she definitely had her lips plumped, but I can't decide if she has had a nose-job or not. Besides, how often can you see her face, nowadays? :ahhh:

Nose-jobs can be dangerous for your career, though, anyone remember Jennifer Grey? :o

Depends on the culture, and what is viewed as attractive.
Also, personality has a lot to do with how I view potential mates. Celebrities are eye candy, safe dreams that will never ever happen.
In real life, if the attractive man I was intrested in acted like a total ass, then he became unattractive to me.
The more I appreciate the good qualities of an individual's personality, and if those outweighed the bad, the more attractive they were.

public attention needs to be diverted towards something... what better way than to a less than agreed upon definition of "beautiful" ? then there is the fact that when someone sponsors you, the contributing party that needs to be compensated, and a good way to do that is to sell their product, for you to endorse it. another good way to sell something is brainwash and dictate, especially in regards to less than agreed upon definitions. both work just fine in the movie and clothing industries. [insert another reason here].

the good thing is, some like you still think for themselves.

edit: @ betrayer of humanity http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l1vo0sDWba1qzknhxo1_500.jpg I dunno what boys look like where you live.

The girl she's with (the brunette) is a looker for sure. But not her.

I think Lady Gaga is actually very pretty. She's not beautiful, but I don't think she looks masculine at all, like everyone says. To each their own.

(Natural) Red hair and fair skin = extremely attractive. For example, I find Doctor Who's partner http://kelseyblogs.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/500full-karen-gillan.jpg to be unbelievably attractive. Honestly she is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

I've yet to meet anyone who can actually point out specifically what about her looks like a man.
"You think lady gaga's hot?"
"Hell no dude he's a dude bro"
"Why? What about her?"
"Shes a man"
"Why though?"
"She's a man."
"Do you even have anything real to say?"

First time I saw Top Model I said: Meh, seen women that look more beautiful. And they don't wear any make-up.

Yes, she's purrty. Now I have to look at that picture with the tights again. :hehe:
Dunno why, maybe I'm just compatible with people sharing my hair, but... Joan Holloway Harris is the most attractive character ever. And ever since Christina Hendricks has that figure I'm 110% (instead of 100%) convinced I'll stay at my current similar one. ^_^

Beauty is a constantly changing thing. But it mostly seems to revolve around healthiness. To some people, runway models are good looking cause they look healthy (remember, these people think skinny = healthy). To others, a nice ripe woman with some hips is just what they're lookin' for to warm their bed.

Personally, I will go for most any girl as long as she has bangs, and doesn't paint her nails. I hate painted nails.

A few weeks ago I read an interesting article which said that people are (usually) not attracted to siblings, because they have the same scent (and thus the same immune system).

This just illustrates how beauty cannot be defined, because it varies depending on your perspective.

As for the "looks VS personality" discussion. Both are important. An unattractive girl with an awesome personality can become a good friend. A very attractive girl with a boring personality can become a different sort of friend. However, in order to become a girlfriend she needs a little bit of both.

As for the celebrities you speak of, I'd love to have a girl which looks like Megan Fox, or Monica Belucci. They're friggin hot. Acting skills etc are irrelevant if we're talking about physical appearances. And make up makes a girl look better. Obviously if it's over done it doesn't look good, duh, unless it's done by professional make up artists.

 I thought you were using a racial epithet until I realised you were talking about fembots.

She does look like she's in drag in a lot of her videos.

I don't know how anyone can find supermodels attractive. They just look pointy. Can you imagine giving that a hug? You'd be impaled on a rib or something.

Why is it that beauty standards seem to be higher for women than they are for men? ):

You've never heard "mainstream" girls talk with their kin in the absence of men. Trust me, it's not any different.

Here I thought I was the only one. I dislike painted nails with a passion. For some reason even a fairly attractive woman will become less attractive in my eyes if they wear nail polish.

Oh well nvm well never agree. The brunette is Kaya Scodelario by the way. A lot of people have a crush on her. In fact in the tv series shes the love interest of the main characters. Shes going up in her career now. She was in that film Moon. The amazing thing, shes 18, a month younger than me. born in March 1992.

I like wearing nail polish. It makes me feel more feminine, what with my square jaw, broad shoulders, and musculature.
I don't like harsh or deep colors, though. I prefer pastels, frosts, and dainty colors. Like lilac, lavendars ,gentle pinks blushes, and icy nvdes. Once in a while, the frosted pale blue.

I loathe wearing makeup though, it feels strange against my skin. I don't like mascara or eyeliner. Once in a while, formal occasions and such I will wear lipgloss and a bit of eyeshadow.
The trick with makeup is to make it look natural, if one looks made up, one has failed.
