Beauty!

Why is it that beauty standards seem to be higher for women than they are for men? ):

Because objectification didn't vanish the instant women started voting.

Now, I can definitely understand women who wear makeup to perhaps spruce up their appearance abit, by adding some colour under the eyes, perhaps, and some attractive lip gloss.

But what is the matter with that powdery stuff? Why do some girls cover their face in some kind of grime, that makes them look like something pulled out of the uncanny valley?

(Natural) Red hair and fair skin = extremely attractive. For example, I find Doctor Who's partner http://kelseyblogs.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/500full-karen-gillan.jpg to be unbelievably attractive. Honestly she is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

I like http://blogs.sundaymercury.net/anorak-city/karengillan.png I dont know why some people who have pale skin think it looks bad, I think it looks good, but again eye of beholder, so yeah all down to their oppinion/preferences.
Yes, she's purrty. Now I have to look at that picture with the tights again. :hehe:
Dunno why, maybe I'm just compatible with people sharing my hair, but... Joan Holloway Harris is the most attractive character ever. And ever since Christina Hendricks has that figure I'm 110% (instead of 100%) convinced I'll stay at my current similar one. ^_^

Just saw thast pic on google, damn. Shame its kinda blurred for me.

In knew a girl at college who had really pale white skin, she was always complaining that she was too pale, until one of the other girls compared her to a blonde Dita Von Teese.

I don't get beauty either. God said "Do want to be a looker or funny?" I thought He said, "Do you want to be a hoker or a bunny?" I chose bunny... *cries hard*

Here I thought I was the only one. I dislike painted nails with a passion. For some reason even a fairly attractive woman will become less attractive in my eyes if they wear nail polish.

I only dislike nail polish if it's on the toes. Most colours ruin them like... I dunno... Painting your face with cement

I tend to favour women that have some curves over women that look like sticks, but it depends on the person for me. For example, http://thefaust.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/madmenchristinahendricks_2.jpg is extremely attractive, but so is http://www.movisionary.com/imagenes/jessica-alba_5.jpg. Basically, I can't sum up everything I find attractive in one post, it depends on how it all comes together in each woman.

Could you point out someone whom you think is beautiful so I can rag on that individual as well?

My point is that you have your own opinion, and that beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder.

Power, money, communication, media help shape what we look for instinctively.

I'd say if it riles you up this much, do some research on it; how has beauty changed throughou thistory, which studies show what we search for instinctively, etc.

Well, at one point bound feat was considering the pinnacle of sophistication and beauty. For those who don't know what that is, it's basically self mutilation, I'm not going to post a picture here.

I think I'm one of few guys who hardly care about mainstream good looks. To me, for someone to be "beautiful" in the vainest way, they'd have to be healthily thin, have a nice face, not wear make up, and not wear stupid clothes. Nothing more. I don't see what the big attraction to orange women with idiotic dresses is. I mean, a woman can wear make up and dresses to make themselves feel better, but there's a limit to when it get annoying. Lady Gaga...

But, real beauty is in a personality. Someone can look like a top model, and be a horrible person, and I would choose the overweight dandruff ridden nice person any day.

All this and I'm just 18 years old. I should be one of them vain people. ^_^

I think there's a problem when what someone else wears actually annoys you...
You have to care a hell of a lot for clothing to annoy you.

First off, she really isn't. And secondly, so what? People can wear whatever the hell they want, I don't care. But don't exoect me to be interested if you walk up to me looking like that.

Beauty isn't something written in stone. It's about opinion (in my opinion).

Failed with me. I'd have six with some celebs but I would never marry one unless I liked the person

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally I prefer a girl with natural, cute, quirky beauty. (Actually I think my taste in women falls a bit outside the norm - while a lot of guys prefer a busty blonde, I'm more into a cute-looking quirky 'girl-next-door' type...) Sadly, Most girls (no matter how pretty or cute or ugly they'd be) seem to think I'm so hideous that I'd make an unflushed toilet crawling with bugs and worms look more attractive by comparison. :(

the best have been the fleeting glances of understated beauty of the otherwise average girl on the street.

This. Famous people generally try too hard to look good.

It's called simple discussion, Hircine. We do it here. If you don't want people to comment on your post, and make their own opinions, why post at all? Or be on a forum..? It's the entire point of it. No one's bashing you, just discussing our opinions.

Beauty is a mathematical ratio. If going by looks alone, then there are two primary classifications of beauty. One is mainstream and men/women prefer something more akin to the usual standard, and then the opposite end of the spectrum there was a unique look to the person. Both of these types of "attractive" people tend to be the most commonly sought after. Can provide references.
