Beauty!

Post » Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:13 pm

Y'see, beauty is all alot of people talk about, and beauty always seems to be the first thing people leap to investigate when scrutinizing any individual, perhaps not surprisingly.

What I don't get is how completely messed up the concept is. In Project Runway, absolutely ghastly looking women are being portrayed as something other women should strive for, and they are dressed up and hidden under layers upon layers of makeup that make them look even more horrible. Are they supposed to be beautiful? Are all those catwalk ghosts wearing such absolutely tragic excuses for clothes supposed to be appealing to me?

Who on earth looks at them and think "Oh yeah, they're gorgeous!"? And who on earth sees those clothes, most of them looking like a beehive made of vomit, and thinks "Blimey, I wanna wear that!"?

Come to think of it, how come all the women who are only famous for their good looks aren't good looking at all? Paris Hilton is known exclusively for being attractive, but she just isn't! Neither is Megan Fox, another person who can't act worth a [censored], is as dumb as a doorknob and looks as if a whack across the face with a sledgehammer might actually improve things!

I just don't get it!

Now, I don't mind people pointing out that a woman is much more attractive than her significant other, but how can Megan Fox be described as such when she'd have to marry Marty Feldman before it actually became true?

As a male im not concerned in my looks as much as Id say most women are, but I definitely groom my self and think about my image and how others view me. As far as with women goes, Ive always liked a more natural look. Makeup and over-done hair really turns me off as does all the other things that go with that like fake tans, ridiculous nails etc..A little make up is fine like some mascara.

I should also probably note that I do like fashion. Looking good is important. Looking good and todays idea of "beauty" are two totally different things though in my mind. When people say that they don't like looking good, don't think that they need to groom themselves (In different wording of course) is just stupid and pure laziness.

This. Spot on.

Edit: Also I'm with you on the model thing. My mom and sister watch Americans Next Top Model, and I fail to see how any of them look close to "pretty" they all weigh about 60 pounds, and look horrible. (even when done up)

Yeah, I prefer the natural look when it comes to women, and I consider makeup disgusting and a major turn off.

1. Don't pay attention to any of this celebrity [censored]. They're trying to sell you beautiful, and people are buying it.

2. Don't pay attention to anything the corporate fashion world is trying to ram down your throat. It's the height of arrogant, self-congratulatory, utterly false, pretentiousness. My girlfriend has had the misfortune of working in the fashion industry. On Friday she quit her latest job in that incistuous little world saying "never again".

I have seen many beautiful girls in my relatively short time. Plenty have been on-screen ladies with global recognition, but the best have been the fleeting glances of understated beauty of the otherwise average girl on the street.

Different strokes for different folks..

I personally like girls who are more down to Earth, you know. Who wear a simple dress and light make-up.

Not those model wannabe's who dress like RnB singers, and wear brand-name clothing and purses and apple bottom jeans .. boots with the fur... the whole club is looking at her.. she hit the floor.. next thing you know.. shawty got low,low,low,low...low....

Anyway.. It all comes down to opinion, and alot of people like the popular six symbols simply because everyone else likes them.
Deep down, they're all gagging just as much as we are.. ;)

Like it or not, beauty is a big part of our society. It's something that we thrive on, and that wont ever change.
I have a pretty odd view of beauty, though. I find beauty in woman that a lot of other guys don't see.
For instance, Megan Fox. I think she's hideous. Vida Guerra, on the other hand, is the most beautiful woman alive, 2nd being Katy Perry. ^_^

Physical beauty signals good health and more or less compliant, compatible or favourable genes. Hence, it's important to be beautiful to serve the original reason to be alive, to pass on one's genes. That's why there are so many disputes about these things, as well as large cults worshipping beautiful people who fit lots of general beauty "standards".
But that really, really, really is just about the looks. There's too much figuring into your selection of mates to explain here. ^_^

There is modes of all kinds of sizes and weights for a reason. Sure I think most outfits in fashion shows aren't meant to go in public but I do envy the access of woman's clothing they get for most times for free. Imagine mountains of beautiful clothes ! Clothes..........
Or maybe I am posting this was because I am desperate for woman's clothing :P

Society clothes people who don't think for themselves or make thier own image.

I just wear whatever.

But beautiful people are beautiful. I prefer natural beauty. A beautiful person will be beautiful even if they wore really crappy clothes.

I usually do not like applying the word 'beauty' to humans, I feel that beauty is more for things like art work.

Well, that really is it, isn't it? You can gather any five people and have them describe what they think is beautiful in a person and get five very differing points of view.
I have no problem noting a good looking person of either gender and thinking "yeah, that's attractive" - but that definition of what is attractive, or "beautiful" in another person is pretty fluid throughout your life as well. :)

Fashion models, especially those who do runway shows, aren't supposed to fit the standard definition of beauty. They are supposed to be tall, skinny, and relatively curveless so as to easier fit clothes. They are also rather generic looking so that they can be transformed into whatever look the designer needs. Likewise, most designer collections (especially the haute couture stuff, which I'm guessing is the vomit beehive of the OP) are more art than fashion, and can be worn only on rare occasions.

Anyways, beauty is a two way street. You don't like how models/celebs look? Fine. Calling them ugly is no better than worshiping their looks, however.

P.S. Paris Hilton is famous solely for being famous, not for being attractive. Her face is wholly unsymmetrical, and symmetry is one of the few beauty criteria shared among all cultures.

Real beauty can not be seen outwardly except for a possible twinkle in ones eyes and a genuine smile upon a face.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZd-Qom3w-0 is a good interpretation of how beauty is regarded these days (great band too!)

It's all really quite sad and fake. I truly appreciate a girl that doesn't smother their real looks in make up and looks beautiful nonetheless.

i dont get where people are so against make up, imo eyeliner/shadow mascara (I dont know anything about makeup) can make a girls eyes standout more, especially if they are a light colout like blue, and damn to me it looks beautiful, but thats all oppinion.

A little bit of make-up can look good but when a girl covers her entire face in make-up it makes her look fake and unattractive imo.

True, moderation really, it can look nice, but to much just looks bad. Except the blusher is it ? That never really looks that great imo (thats the stuff that women put on their cheeks right ?) imo it just looks bad, maybe its because today I saw a girl and she had so much onit looked like someone spanked a baboon.

I'm not sure who these "models" are supposed to appeal to, but I could never fall for a corpse.
Actresses and singers I enjoy staring at when they're beautiful - which has nothing to do with real life, at all. Unless you're a celebrity, then I guess you could set your sights on more well-known beauties... but even celebrities aren't in reality anyway.
