Become a Guard

I wouldn't mid being a bodyguard to an Earl who's being targeted by the Dark Brotherhood and you have to guard him during the night and investigate you hired them.

no. I am already dragon born. Why would I want to be a guard?

... don′t get me started... last time someone said something so silly I think it ended up being over two thousand words I wrote...

Man, I'd love to be a guard! I would love to kill silly NPCs who decide to grab the bread loaf off the store counter.

OR BETTER YET KILL NPCS FOR TAKING ZERO VALUE SPOONS

Yep, totally putting stopping Aldruin on the backburner, gots me some spoon theives to kill.

I really wouldn't find standing next to a gate for 10 hours then getting off my shift very fun... Maybe if it's more like, investigate this theft, find that guy, etc. So not so much 'guard a gate' as 'be detective'.

I agree. Detective, yes. Rent-a-cop, no.

Don't really like the idea of becoming a full-time guard, but it's a good idea for a quest where your character is required to operate undercover temporarily.

Bring back the Legion like with Morrowind. Also an opposite one for the anti-Imperial, basically... lets call it the Skyrim Guard.

You start off initially in a training camp. Because lets be honest, a professional army is gonna have this, it just makes sense you would start here.

Then you get sent to a city, lets say one of the major ones is really crime ridden, that would be perfect. You would investigate crimes and stop ones you see happening during a patrol mission or two.

After that your ordered to report to a Fort and be a proper soldier. Recon missions, battles, ect.

Being assigned as a guard temporarily in a quest where something happens could be interesting, or working as a crime investigator. Normal guard work and doing watches would be really boring.

*Takes his guard position*
*15 minutes passes*
Can I help you, citizen? -No.
*30 minutes passes*
Is there something I can do, sir? -No. (...)
...Relieve me already. I'm hungry and I want to sit down. :D

well ever played fallout 2, you can join the enclave in it and all you do is stand around for 8hours real life time, so it wouldent be that fun

This thread reminds me of that one corrupted captain quest in Oblivion. I suppose if you rank up to a captain, you can set a bounty on NPCs as you see fit.

i like this idea

---
maybe you become a guard and the city has a high crime level so you will have something to do on post, and you can become corrupt reveal plans to other factions and stuff like that.
and as you level up you will be able to diffrent stuff like body guard or escort a caravan of survivours, maybe even become a militry sergent and take soilders into war

As a faction, sure sounds good but i wouldn't want it to be part of the MQ unless temporary.

i'd rather go for this whole vampire hunter thing or mercenary thing... vampire hunter sounds cool after watching Vampire Hunter D.
as you can see from my avatar i really like vampires closer to the original sense of what they're meant to be u know VAMPIRES ARE Undead, the first ones are so old and powerful they're demigods by now, kind of thing! not the Twilight thingaling, i don't like that...

OH i was supposed to be talking about guards? not interested. but being "Dog of the military" sounds more like something doable (little errand boy) but still... i prefer vampire hunter or mercenary.

Edit: I don't want to see the imperial legion ever again, we're in skyrim hundreds of years after oblivion and morrowind's MQ. WHY WOULD THERE BE A [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] [Censored] Imperial Legion in skyrim at this time? everyone hates the bastards! how about the Viking Squad (Icelandic version of S.W.A.T) and the Skyrim Guards faction. who gives a damn about a imperial legion, they can be eaten by dragons!

Sure... I'd dig being a guard.

Collecting fines and tariffs, arresting bad guys... it'd be nice to have a game where the player could get some ACTUAL authority and the powers that go along with it. At the same time, I do like the idea of being able to be corrupt, as well. So you could say, bully the criminals into paying you more... but in return you let them go without taking their goods. Maybe even have there be risks... like if you get caught, you might have to kill one of your own fellow guardsmen before he can reveal your underhandedness...

... yeah. Could be fun.

That should be a dragon shout.

It will melt off their face, and children will come running out of houses to weep over their exploded body.

how about the Viking Squad (Icelandic version of S.W.A.T)

Hah Karhu would kick their ass any day :toughninja:

I dont know, could be kinda cool being a guard if its not like standing in the same spot for a whole day.More like:

"By the Builder! It has been rumoured that theres skooma den near the south gate!Go see if thats true ,if it is, decapitate every single one of the skooma dealers and hang their heads on the poles near the main gate!"

>Uh...what?
>Hell yeah,sir ! I shall do it right now!
>Excuse me,sir but what the [censored] is wrong with you?
>Consider it done,sir.

Guarding quests were some of the better ones in Daggerfall, because you never really knew when the bad guys were going to come. I would love to see them return in Skyrim.

With my character plan set in stone, I highly doubt the guards would accept The Roadrunner Bandit to their ranks.

I don't know about "officially" becoming a town guard, but something bothered me today.
I was playing Oblivion and I killed a guard, of course they are psychic and will somehow know that I killed them. But I took all of their armor and weapons and equipped them, yet they still know that it was me.
I hope in Skyrim you can uses guard's armor as a disguise to get into barracks or get information out of guards and high ranking authorities.

Yeah, personally I hope the guards lose the psychic connection they have to each other.

With that said, I wouldn't mind becoming a guard. Standing by a gate for half the day would be rather boring imo. So I can imagine players becoming more of the "town investigator" or perhaps muscle for the guard. "Hey, the town drunk is causing a ruckus in the tavern. Go rough him up a bit, then drag him to the jail." or "Hey, I think I just saw someone break in to the shop! Why don't you take a look?" situations would work for me.

I can imagine just randomly walking up to people...
Me: Then pay with your blood!
NPC: Wha-
I then proceed to slice him apart, claiming that he violated the law and that his stolen goods are now forfeit.
