Become a Guard

Would you like to be a guard or have the option to? It could be a separate faction where you go through the ranks from jailer to captain, etc.

I really wouldn't find standing next to a gate for 10 hours then getting off my shift very fun... Maybe if it's more like, investigate this theft, find that guy, etc. So not so much 'guard a gate' as 'be detective'.

Something along the lines of the Imperial Legion in MW would be cool, but being a simple town guard might be a little boring.

A man walks to you to talk, you respond, "oh, its you."

I like this idea, the opportunities for corruption and abuse of power must appeal to any self respecting stealth type.

As a faction might be interesting. Might be too many rules and regulations to follow though.

Only if I get the option to run around while pressing a button that makes my character yell, "Stop, criminal scum!" and killing people who do not pay me monies!

I wish the Imperial Legion was available for joining in Oblivion like it was in Morrowind. However, and correct me if I'm wrong, the Imperials really don't have a presence in Skyrim so that's a no go. I'm curious to see how the guards are going to be in Skyrim though. Are there going to be guards patrolling the roads? Each town gonna have it's own guards, like Oblivion? Etc. Etc.

I'm just hoping the faction system is much better than Oblivion's, and from the sounds of things so far, it is going to be. :D

maybe something like the night watch in red dead. you just go on a quick patrol, capture or kill a couple baddies and patrols over.

I like this idea. It would be cool to be able to arrest people. Or to come to people's aid when the town is attacked.

This thread reminds me of that one corrupted captain quest in Oblivion. I suppose if you rank up to a captain, you can set a bounty on NPCs as you see fit.

I can imagine just randomly walking up to people...
Me: Then pay with your blood!
NPC: Wha-
I then proceed to slice him apart, claiming that he violated the law and that his stolen goods are now forfeit.

agreed. although, my problem with the legion was that you were only ever required to wear your armor while talking to your commander.and you were essentially still treated as a civilian in all other aspects of the game.
actually, i'd like there to be a mechanic where npc's greet you based on your faction(s) joined. as far as i know, that hasn't been in any TES game so far.

Not really, but being a member of the Imperial Legion, like you were able to do in Morrowind, would be awesome.

Even better you could be hired as a mercenary for some easy money by the town guard. Yeah guarding a gate that is obviously not under much danger isn't very heroic. I'd like to see being a mercenary, maybe not like a faction, but something like the arena in oblivion. Lots of different jobs, and you get increasingly better pay.
