Becoming a Dragon

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 9:50 am

I think it would be cool to earn the ability to turn back and forth, at will, between a human and a dragon after beating the main quest of the game. Just a thought.

I disagree. I don't have much more to add to it than that.

I don't know whether dragons in TES lore have transformation abilities, but the player isn't a dragon anyway.

That's already a game, it's called Divinity 2

I'd like to add that it is not against TES lore for mortals to transform into dragons, but it's a permanent thing, and it's also completely counter-intuitive to the plot of Skyrim and not something easily accomplished nor really desirable.

I can't imagine it making any sense in context of the game.

That's already a game, it's called Divinity 2

And two different games can't have the same feature! There will also be no jumping because that's already a game, it's called Super Mario Bros.

There's two types of Dragon. one has the ability, but I don't think these are that type.

And, yeah, no thanks.

Except that a dragonborn doesn't have the ability to turn into a dragon. Martin Septim was the only one to do anything similar, and he only turned into a dragonfire statue because of Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon. Also, Martin died from it, so it's not exactly high on my wishlist.

the dragons from Akavir can shift, between a sort of human form and their ultimate dragon form, I find the fact that you are dragonborn + that you absorb dragons powers a very good RP reason to be able to transform into a dragon, however I don't think they will include it in the game. there for I agree with "The lord of Destruction" MODs are for this (I will certainly download it )

I'd also like to point out something to those who are so quick to handwave this aside:

How many people would have approved of the idea of becoming a Daedric Prince before the Shivering Isles was released?

Yeah, that's right. So let's take a step back and be fair.

I don't like the idea. I preffer to play as the small-possible-meal-thing rather than the big predator.

martin used the power of the amulet and his blood to summon an avatar of akatosh, he didn't transform into a dragon but summoned one.

also martin was never trained in the ways of the voice so dragon shouts were a little bit out of his reach at the time.

dragons are rumored in the lore that they have the power to shapeshift at will to disguise themselves. and we now know that most of a dragon's abilities stem from the use of their language.
going by that logic it's perfectly possible for a shapeshifting shout to exist.

Sheogorath was a major figure in previous games, and i don't really approve the fact that some champion from cyrodil can just go there and replace him.

If dragon transformation is put into the game, it would have to be a boxed-in, one time only occurrence. Possibly as a dream sequence, or an eleventh hour power that goes away after it serves its purpose....nothing more.

If they do however decide to make it a re-usable ability, it needs to come with severe consequences...much more so than contracting vampirism or becoming a werewolf.

For those who know what I am talking about, being able to change into a dragon at will needs to come about from doing something unforgivable, something equal in severity to poisoning the water dragon's blood in Jade Empire. Something that will forever change everyone's perception of you for the rest of the game.

well as dragonborn you already got the soul of a dragon so i dont see a problem to tranform into 1 but it must be someting extras for those who wanted to have
and at very end of the game indeed wene you get the final shout someting wene beating akatosh
i do love the option rememebr its a solo game so no mmo were you will see every1 turn into a dragon
so for those who dont want it then they wont use it simple :)
i also dont like sugar or milk into my cofee but that doesnt meeen we have to bann sugar and milk from the world i think things like thise should be optional
so if dragon transformation is in it than i wana be it a a extra thingy

or we have mai'q saying someting like : you wana turn in a dragon? just play a argonian mage dragon are just agonian mages that think they can fly

Something just came to mind reading this. Todd has mentioned something about being able to find a shout that brings a dragon ally to your side for a short period of time.. How cool would it be if the shout was obtain through a quest given by some stranger, who turnes out to be the F'ing dragon!!! Almost bet this have been up before since it quite straightforward, but come on. ! COOLNESS !

No! And check the history first, this has been posted multiple times. Thats a ridiculous idea that would ruin the game IMO.

While I don't want to see it happen, it's a great way for Bethesda to get rid of the player character. They got rid of every single player character in one way or another. Morrowind's went off on an adventure out of Tamriel never to be heard from again. Oblivion's has to take over Shegorath's realm so probably can't be bothered with too many mortal concerns after Shivering Islands.

I could totally see it happening such that in the end, you turn into a dragon and end up leaving to live with any dragons that survive whatever the main quest is in Skyrim. As an added bonus they could just refer to you as the hero that turned into a dragon in future games, ignoring specifics about race or six. They've already confirmed a post game though, so I doubt that would happen.

I know right. I always wanted a game where we could be a dragon and eat people. Because I HATE being humans or normal in a game. Being Dovakiin is not that special to me because you're still a "person". But transforming into a dragon in the game is out of place, even if such things are possible in the Elder Scrolls(I.E Dragons shapeshifting). That is why we hopefully get werewolves. Even if being a dragon sounds cool, it would make more sense to be a man eating werewolf.

However, being Sheogorath didn't affect gameplay. Becaming a dragon would affect it greatly.
