Becoming king?

Post » Fri Nov 19, 2010 5:49 am

If your character is this kind of super hero and saves skyrim from civil war and complete distruction from dragons, will you get to become king at the end?

It was annoying at the end of oblivion when you were just left as a champion, they should have at least found someone else to become heir, or said that there were no other heirs rather than just saying they will look into it. Also if you are just champion again it should mean more in the game rather than having everyone like you. it should lead to better side quests and discounts in stores and things. posible a really cool reward based on your characters stats.

I hope not.
Wouldn't make much sense for a king to go out and loot crypts. (If there is post-ending gameplay.)

I, looking at Fable 3, really don't want to be king.

Well, the Emperor is dead and you are the Dovahkiin, chosen by the Aedra. Maybe in the end, a new Tamrielic dynasty begins with you... Who knows?

Heroes exist to save the World, not rule it.
Especially if the hero is a player. Sitting on the throne and doing nothing is not my kind of fun... I mean, which King would randomly walk around the world and loot treasuries and do quests for random people?

No, for two reasons:
1. Martin's sacrifice made it so that Dragonborn are no longer required to keep Oblivion gates shut
2. It would contradict future lore as someone as important as Imperial dynasty must mention the race of dynasty... and with 10 races, players who play with 9 other races will find their Tamriel senseless

What do you mean by king? DO you mean some high ruler of Skyrim? Relighting the Dragon Fire in Cyrodiil/ becoming the new emperor, and starting a new line of emperors, etc, etc... Becoming some sort of tribal war lord? WHat exactly do you mean? Because, I'm pretty sure, if you help ANYONE in the civil war, and if you DO succeed in stopping akatosh/alduin from destroying all of Nirn I still don't think that the winning side of the civil war will allow you to become ruler of Skyrim, etc...

But who knows what will happen, we haven't yet had the chance to play the game in full/ at all really, so we can not yet make a vast decision about this, and we can only really think about what may happen, and wish it to be true (but then again who knows what will happen in the full game >_>....)

Sounds a bit too much like Fable. You'll be able to kill whomever you please, and still the guards won't do anything about it because you're DA KING.

Also being king while still roaming the world on your own makes no sense at all. Being a champion however is a lot cooler, at least you have to prove yourself to be a champion while kings usually just inherrit the title.

Yeah, the Argonian king of the Nords! It would be terrible to try that.

This. Although I do not understand the point of the first point, as Dragonborn weren't required to shut Oblivion Gates and that was a one time thing in that era. The other point makes sense though. Idc if they have Warped to the West before it is tough to explain 20 different kings and queens (1 for each gender and race). It will be a set character if there is one at all. Who knows, this might be the lead in to democracy. Can't wait for Elder Scrolls 6: Senators :P

OK maybe becoming a ruler was a bad idea, but i still want something that would make it worthwhile completing the game. when i finished oblivion for the first time all other side quests become unintresting and i had to leave it for a while before i could get into it again. same thing with fallout 3. also will there still be dragons after the game do you think? after oblivion i missed having oblivian gates to go into, and missed the chance to get more deadra armour and weapons.

Keep them closed would have been a better term probably... as far as I understand, only a Dragonborn can light Dragonfires with it (Dragonborn creating Dragonfire... makes sense actually...) and thus keep the gates closed.

Becoming a Lord would be nice. Building your own fort, owning your own town or village and land would be pretty cool. But becoming a King/queen is to much.

Does not seem like a bad idea to me.SPOILERS At the end of the Shivering Isles you become a god, so a king isn't too far fetched. Then again, Beth didn't do a very good job of making you feel like a god since I was still looting and getting arrested by my own guards.

But you didn't become any kind of god: you became a god of madness so it is normal to be arrested by your own guards XD

You're not becoming the king. Just as you didn't become emporor in oblivion and you were just a faceless nerevarine in morrowind.

If you were to become king it would mean players coulden't be female.. Which would restrict gameplay severely and.. well... Look, players are able to do whatever they want in Tamriel.. Then when the game ends you are just a random hero, soon to be forgotten. You leave no legacy.. Kings leave legacy's. Hence you will not be king.

Elric of Melnibone started off as the Emperor of an ancient, unassailable fortress island, sat on his Ruby Throne.
Then he threw it all away and became a homeless wanderer, and that is where the story got interesting,

I wouldn't want to be king, but like someone mentioned becoming a lord and getting a fort would be awesome, loved the strongholds in Morrowind.

But how could a woman become queen when she's in the kitchen all the time?

Instead of king, how about being a mayor for each major town?
