Becoming Sheogorath

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 7:19 am

Does anyone have any theories as to how the CoC became a Daedric Prince? This has been bugging me for a while now. I've come to the conclusion that the engegies in the Shivering Isles flowed into the staff then into him changing him into Sheogorath. I'm intrested in other theories that people have.

your the avatar of sheo, also you jacked all his shiz, and since you now look like sheo (thanks to the jacked suit and staff, plus your chillin on the throne) you have fooled the world into thinking your sheo...so your sheo...real simple

He mantled Sheogorath. Acted as insane as possible to the point of becoming indistinguishable from madness itself.

Of course, your point also holds true. Having a staff inbued with the energies of the Isles (which are an extention of the Prince's power) also factored heavily into the CoC's mantling.

Becoming Sheogorath: By Steven King

Joking aside, I feel like that after mantling his throne long enough, you became him.

By way of the fourth: Wielding the staff, sitting on the throne, drinking deep of the waters of madness.

I always thought that when you entered the Shivering Isles you were given insane visions and were made to believe you were actually doing those things when in reality you weren't. All a cruel joke from Sheo, I prefer thinking that way, any other situation seems crazy ;)

This. Mantling is the most likely explanation.

please no, never this, why would you want something boring and mundane? Especially when the alternative is so much cooler? Shows how mantleing works in game! also gives lore into sheo and his alter ego jyggy,

The CoC is in close contact with the essence of Sheogorath (the Waters of Madness) 24/7. That would've sped up the mantling process for sure.

I suppose but don't you think it's a bit odd that mantling was shown with Sheogorath in his own realm? That screams deceit to me, I mean what better way to make a man mad then by making him think he is a mad god? I think its brilliant, not boring. Although I will say the plot is a bit mundane.

Mundus was a deception, too. Who you gonna believe? Might as well be your duds, throne, and cane.

Personally I like the theory that the CoC didn't become Sheggorath, but instead went insane inside the Isles (Basically most of the adventures in the Isles were delusions).

To me, at least, it makes more sense. No mortal is beyond the mental stretchings of Sheggorath, and IIRC it's never been explicitly stated "The CoC became Sheggorath", only, perhaps, loosely implied,

What's with this talk of becoming mad in the Isles?
I know that the CoC once jumped in place for two days straight because they believed by doing so they would eventually be able to jump from roof to roof through cities because they refused to walk on the roads like a normal person.

He also invented a spell that lights himself on fire so that he could understand fire better. Yep, nothing crazy about that guy at all.

How is it loosely implied when everyone calls you Sheogorath at the end? When your madness is so great you can speak with mad beggars, who thank their lord, Sheogorath, that is you, for being able to understand them?

Also, the narrative itself never supports the idea that the CoC was simply delusional, and in fact, arguing he was delusional ruins the point of the expansion and it's story.

He also...

#1- Spemt two days sneaking behind someone, watching them work, watching them sleep, etc all because he thought that by doing so, he could 'improve' his sneak skills.

#2-Streaked every so often.

#3- Positioned defeated enemies in lewd positions after he defeated and stripped them of their clothings.

...and that doesn't cover half of the insane things you can have your CoC do.

The Shivering Isles never existed. It was all a hallucinogenic metaphor for how the CoC achieved CHIM. Jyggalag represented Zero Summing and Sheogorath represented the Godhead. Haskill was Talos and Dyus was Vivec.

Oh that's a funny one! Your joking right?

Right.....?

Personally, I don't believe your theory. A Daedric Prince is his realm after all

Yeah, I though the Realms were supposed to be infinite, but the Isles are pretty small... at least in game.

In regards to this, perhaps it has something to do with the impending Greymarch?

To go with what Lady N said in her theory, there is no Jygalaag in Skyrim. Furthermore, Sheogorath says the title of Sheogorath is passed down from "me to me every few thousand years."

Really, it seems Lady Nerevar was spot on.
