Bed bug has ruined the game for me!

Post » Sat Dec 12, 2015 4:40 am

I am sure they will fix it eventually, and I know it seems like a relatively minor grip in a game as rich and engaging as this. Call it OCD RPG syndrome, or whatever. I just can't bring myself to play until this is fixed! I was amazed that there was no mention of this in their first major patch!

Every time I leave Sanctuary my happiness goes down and water and electric drop to 0. Beds also drop to an odd low number. I have manually assigned every single follower to their own bed, and verified that they go to the right one at night. Still, as soon as I leave, the resource tracking breaks and my happiness drops.

As soon as I fast travel or run back everything magically fixes.

This has been a widely reported issue. I will be patiently awaiting a fix but playing (and modding) other games until it is.

/signing off.

does this only happen in Sanctuary?

if you would abandon it and build a big base somewhere else, would there be a risk of it happening again there?

There is a simple workaround this bug, its caused by fast traveling from the settlment(Sanctuary hills semms to be the most affected one but can happen elswhere as well), so to get to the workaround always travel a bit away from the settlment on foot before fast traveling(basicly you need to get into another cell, at Sanctuary hills coming into the vault 111 fence semms to be the closest safe point of fast travel)

So as long as you folow this workaround bug will not repeat itself.

I got rid of the visual misreporting by removing all TV sets and jukeboxes (from every single owned settlement) - so that I no longer randomly see power 0 water 0 beds 0 etc - they always show the right numbers now, though I still get random drops for no reason in happiness where people seem to think they have issues yet everything is perfectly fine and showing good resource numbers. Starting to look sideways at the lights/lamps now...basically maybe anything not directly wired into a connector might be doing weird things when we zone out from the area game runs in background, if TVs and jukeboxes were somehow involved.

@above - the fast travel thing I also don't do...always try to run as far away from a settlement as possible, though it also never fixed the visual reporting glitch for me (only scrapping all TVs and jukeboxes fixed that).

Yeah i heard about that solution as well but i didnt want to get rid of all the decorations i painstakily placed:) but yeah the walk out of the cell solution will work 100% so while its not perfect solution it does work.

Can confirm the not fast traveling away trick does NOT work. I even tried the "manually walk out while construction mode is on" trick which also does NOT work.

Scrapping TV/jukebox isn't really an option for me, as again, I am OCD and refuse to gut my artistic aesthetic to fix a bug that should be patched.

Also, it sounds like happiness still randomly goes down, which is what I really have a problem with more than the numbers.

Thanks for the suggestions though. :)

Yeah it needs a patch. An official patch.

Takes all the joy out of trying to make settlers happy...literally.

In my game I don't really get many mysterious drops though, so I do suggest scrapping TVs and jukeboxes if you want them to at least go into a reasonably stable mode. Just give them a painting instead to stare at.

You are not walking out far enough to be out of the same cell, just walking out of build area isnt enough.(For sanctuary hills closest point of safe travel is right inside vault 111 courtyard(inside the fence)), give it a try it has always fixed it for me and anyone else i suggested it to.

Its the Recruitment Beacon causing the bug, it happens when you fast travel away from within range of a beacon........there are three ways to handle it at the moment walk out of range of a beacon, fly to a new location or remove the beacon (I'm placing them in storage).

It can happen without the beacon as well, ive had it happen in Sanctuary on multiple saves without ever placing a beacon there.

I've never had the issue lead to happiness dropping critically low long enough to have any settlers abandon a settlement. Since it doesn't have any direct effect, I just ignore the arbitrary happiness number and assume that if they are sticking around, they are happy enough.

Happy if this fixed it for you but it does NOT work for me. I just tested. Checked my resources in Sanctuary, all good. WALKED out the path THROUGH vault 101, through the back fence, and all the way out into the forest past that. NO FAST TRAVEL. Checked Data tab. Sanctuary resources glitched, happiness dropping.

Made a video. Will post after upload.

NOT the case here. My Sanctuary recruitment beacon was disconnected WEEKS ago!

It is interesting to see how many "fix myths" are floating around. Clearly this is something Bethesda needs to comment on and patch ASAP as MANY people are having problems with it to come up with all these psychosomatic "fixes!" :P

Well like I said, scrapping TVs and jukeboxes does fix the VISUAL misreporting bug.

You're kinda making me feel dirty for trying to help.

LOL aw, don't feel dirty, I wasn't intending that comment as an insult. Just an observation. I should have been more careful to state that if it is actually working for others I am happy for them, just that it isn't for me.

The help (even if not working for ME personally) is still appreciated. :)

Well try it anyway. It does at least fix it enough to make game acceptable.

Nothing short of a total fix will be okay though!

Btw when you say remove TVs/radios/jukeboxes etc... do you mean just the preplaced ones or even crafted ones

But yeah the game sure does have some very anoying bugs(wudnt rly call em gamebreakers but they are superbly anoying like settlment glich, tier 4 merchants recrutiment, buged perks)

I mean ALL of them - pre-placed ones (you might have to run around looking very closely, there are many in Sanctuary and a few scattered around in other settlements too), and any you have placed yourself. From every settlement you have.

One other piece of voodoo - don't save over old saves. Make a fresh save each time and just delete any really old unwanted saves.

Oh, you don't mean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_bug, heh.

Well, I'm happy to inform you that settlements are just a pointless minigame disconnected from the rest of the world, so you can avoid them altogether and enjoy the actual game.

Here's the video of the bug on walking out:

Currently testing fast travel from Vault 101 (inside fence). So far bug has stayed away. Needs more testing though.

Disconnecting doesn't work in my case, I had to remove them to allow fast travel to settlements (since they were also still broadcasting despite being turned off and having no power).......which has worked for me, my fast travel ban fix lasted for over 48 hours of gameplay before I had to fast travel after getting stuck (which immediately caused the bug again) and fast travelling to the Settlements without beacons seem to working so now so I'm planning to remove all of the beacons.

There seem to be multiple reason for the bug, but of course only some people are getting them....for instance I never had a TV or a Jukebox, but people have been hit by the bug for that reason and have used the beacons without any problems.

Cool hope it stays that way for you, suggested that simply cause game cells are somewhat strange and the vault 111 inside the fence area is def a different cell.
