Bed of money...

Maybe instead of making it harder to make money they should give us optional objectives to use our money on, such as upgrading guild halls, buying land, sponsoring certian factions. Those sorts of things. Nothing that we have to do, but put it there at least.
Or just cover your house in money thats fun too.

Yes! I think the most important thing is that there is something to do with your money. If we are going to have it, and many of us will with at least some of our characters, just give us something to do with it one we are past needing to spend it on our gear.

Agreed.
I would like to see something like BG2 where you have a castle and the locals are always asking for money for one reason or another. Take it one step further with maintenance costs and hiring body guards.
Also, I would like to see more quests including options that allow you to bribe, or resolve conflicts with coin, after all, that's how most disputes have been settled throughout the recorded centuries.

I'm sorry, I had to laugh at the rediculous comment that you can be rich in 2-3 hours on Skyrim.

Doing what, exactly?

If you were playing the game the way it was intended instead of running off and grinding repeatitively at some exploit, in 2-3 hours of play you should be somewhere between Bleakfalls Barrow and some Whiterun tower going "OMG DRAGON". You MIGHT have 2k in your pocket if you're some penny-penching grubber who refuses to buy anything.

Please, don't exaggerate a point into stupidity if you want to be taken seriously.

I take my time playing the game and typically don't worry about making tons of money. I make enough to get what I want and then have to decide "this or that" for extras, and that's fine. At higher levels, I do think that money will become a bit too easy to come by. One of things Bethesda (or a modder) could do first off will be to fix the iron-dagger exploits by ensuring smithing lower-level items will give you diminished exp as you raise levels (in a way, this will force you to take perks if you want to be a serious smith, or require that you have patience or the money to pay trainers). They can also severely reduce the amount of money merchants will pay for "silly" enchantments on items that normally go for 1 or 2 coins. (Blessed Overalls of Hauling, I'm looking at you.)

it's weird for us  we've been in economic crisis forever, tamriel obviously doesn't have those problems

and money are not really that important in this game  so stop playing like it's MMO

Skyrim confirmed for Scrooge McDuck simulator.

Seriously though, I've never in my entire life played any open-world RPG in which players can't become absurdly rich in a fairly short period of time, if they put their minds to it. Dragon Age is the only recent RPG I can think of, because every good piece of equipment is ludicrously expensive, your loot sells for pennies on the dollar, there's nowhere to grind, and gold is extremely hard to come by... but Dragon Age is in no way, shape or form an open-world game, being a series of linear corridors with treasure nooks here and there.

You're an adventurer, you go into places that would make an ordinary person vomit in terror & you get rewarded with loot and gold

Working as intended

Actually, I was wondering how to drop money on the ground. I want to put bags and bags of gold EVERYWHERE. All I have now are a hundred gold bars. =(

I don't have a problem with the amount of money that can be made; the problem is things to buy.

Other than armour & weapons (which can be made instead of buying); the only expensive things to buy are houses. Is there a need to buy all houses; probably not but when you have lots of money, you may as well spend it.

What we need added to the game are lots more things that we can spend our money on; what these things are I am unsure, although I do have a few suggestions:

People have expressed a wish to live in a cave after killing all the enemies; what if we could buy furniture and then pay someone to deliver it to the cave. We could also buy a strong locked door to prevent it from respawning new enemies. Maybe outside the cave you could pay to have a horse & carrage wait there to take you to the major cities.

Maybe you could pay to build stables and then invest money in breading horses.

There should be more options to invest in shops.

Maybe we could invest in a city/village to help their econemy rather than just shops.

I'm sure some of you could think of some really good ideas here; but this is what I think needs adding to the game; more things to buy rather than having less money. What good ideas can you all think of...

Don't sell items, just hoard them and only pick up gold you loot or are paid for quests.
Hire and fire a companion for every dungeon you visit, that will waste some gold.
Train, train and train some more.
Only buy armour and weapons, then upgrade them yourself with ingots you have bought and not mined.

Loads of ways to stay poor.

You could also find a pond and fill it with gold one peice at time if you see fit.

IMO its not the speed of acquisition or the amount of money you get which is broken, it's the fact you don't really need to spend it on anything.

Anything you want you can either get for free in the game world, or get as a reward for a quest line.

More things to buy would be nice. A Castle would be a money sink, maybe raising one's own guild, or paying NPCs fo killing some dragons,....i don't know.
But the trainers really don't cost enough to lower the amount of money. (I'm not using glitches btw, it's just the smithing/selling thing)

I have not been able to keep from spending money actually :D
Idc about the achievement though. If I get it on accident, then great, if not, then oh well.

I'd love to own a castle, and I think it probably would cost alot as well. You could also hire workers that keep food stocked on the table etc. which could also take up some money.

I definately like the idea of building your own guild; you could sort of do that in Morrowind by build your own stronghold. They should have brought back this idea...

it can cost like 5000-10000

Some really good ideas there. I like the farm idea to Arinal.

With so many good ideas I would love to see even a couple turn up in the game. I know you can do it Bethesda!

Also the stables - I like that idea as it might tie into improving something else that isn't as good as I feel it could be. Horses. Mount & Blade handles horses pretty well, I hope Bethesda brings in some horse upgrades (if I can't purchase a mammoth as a mount) - it would be grand to buy better horses in game.

Good Point: better horses (and more intelligent)
Maybe some rare races, that are more expensive. Oder faster horses, or stronger ones.
And please some horse armor, fitting every armor style, like glass horse armor! :hubbahubba:

Some expensive RP-clothes would be fun too, especially for the XBox where there will be no modding.

Agreed, a castle or boat is something I think sounds very attractive.

Yeah, I definitly put my thoughts around the wrong way earlier:

A. Things to spend money on.
B. If we can't have that require some more time/effort to get wealthy
C. Both together would be swell.
