Bed of money...

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:24 pm

I had a glimpse at the achievements and I thought "That 100.000g thing is going to be tough!"....i was wrong.
Once you've figured out how to make good money, you can buy almost everything. I don't have to work or wait for nothing....

...buying all spell books at once? check
...buying super expensive equipment just to disenchant them? check
...buying all houses? check
...smithing every armor, shield & sword available? check
...ignoring your Black Star because you can buy filled gems en masse? check
...offering 1 Septim to every bum out there? check
...still 100.000 in your pocket? double check!!

They should definately change that, it's a lot of motivation been taken away from the player....imo.

There a too many ways to make money, and smithing kills it completely. I Make 40.000g an hour with smithing. :(

How do you feel about that?

P.S.: my way of making gold is described on Thread Page 3!

It's the same problem as in oblivion, but not nearly as bad. At higher levels you get very rich, fast. In Oblivion, you'd get much, much faster rich at higher levels than in Skyrim.

I was never rich in Oblivion. In fact, after completing Bleak Falls Barrow I was richer than I had ever been in Oblivion, after investing maybe 50 hours into it.

At higher levels is the key word.

In Oblivion, every single bandit kill would give you 5000 gold when you looted them. (daedric armor full set + weapon on every marauder)

Oh, sorry, I see your point. But now you just get a lot of gold at any level...

Okay Oblivion is one thing, but lets face Skyrim here.
You don't even need higher levels to make that much money! ....you can make your money once you've got maybe 5.000g in your pocket. 3-4 hours later you unlock the 100.000g achievement.

Money has never been an issue in almost all single player games.

I don't think anyone would want to play a single player game that you have to do the same stuff for ten hours to get enough money to buy an armor right?

This - the loot tables are broken and the gold drops ar broken.
Even at low levels a quick skim of an easy dungeon(even on master) will net 1000g in potions and drops. I make the game a *bit* harder by only looting things that my thief character can use or would be inclined to steal.

Light armour, one handed weapons, bows, gems, gold etc.
Even with this restriction I've got more gold than I can use.

3-4 apprentice mage mobs with flawless garnets/diamond rings and soul stones?
Really?

That's right, that would be the other extreme.
But maybe I should not buy all houses (completed) at level 8.....that's too easy. It takes off value from things.

Well you are wrong with that. I'm going to make a hunter who only loots food, ingredients and misc items. +arrows.

Well people I see aren't using trainers much if they have so much free gold around. It costs 15k just to get 5 trainer levels if the skill is like over 60, you level up off of those 5 and buy 5 more trainer levels and bam over 30k gone like that.

My character is lvl 52, has all the houses upgraded. Now he barely has enough money every level to buy five skill points from trainers. I craft only for my needs or my companions, I am an adventurer not some damn blacksmith or enchanter. RP more, stop playing like its MMO.

Guys don't exploit the game to the max and then come here whining how easy it is. Its a single player game, its not a treadmill where you have to grind your ass to buy an item. It's made this way so people who don't want to craft like mad to be able to enjoy the game too, by normal playing.

Try to RP really. :brokencomputer:

That's only because you want to role play a hunter.

Most of the players won't want to do the same stuff over and over again in a single player game. People are complaining the radiant quests too repetitive already after doing one or two of them.
Can you imagine what will people think when they have to chop the tree or mine the ore for 10hours just to get the money to buy half a house?

I do the same thing.

BTW blue mtn flower + blue butterfly wing + giant's toe = most expensive brew possible in skyrim with all of their affects discovered. Go big game hunting for Toes and you can still manage to get by easily.

That sounds fun. It doesn't sound like a reward for hard work otherwise :)

oh i know in fact i was one of the first around here to mention the banish enchant...er...thang...

just its my 3rd character now and i just want to get my trades up, get my chosen look on and start doing the 150 and chosen quests.

i think a lot of people seem to be having a really hard time reconciling the sandbox nature of these types of games tbth...

me ? i'm hitting the armor cap in Hide...like the dude in the trailers ;P...and "they" call it "exploiting" lol

I agree, you should have to spend at least 2 weeks losing battlegrounds to get that first epic PvP reward.

I've been staying poor.

I wanted to train my one-handed skill a few levels (it was level 70) it cost 12,000 to train it 5 levels. You want a money sink? put your money into training your character ot be better....the costs are higher levels are insane.

That is by far the best thing, that these things cost money. But with half a million septims in your pocket you're prepared for everything...

THe problem that im experiencing is that i don't see any motivation where to put my gold. Im not rich. Constantly about 10 000 septs, playing like an advneturer, enjoying the world and making some quests primarily. At level 22, using two handed warhammer in 95 percent i smash my enemies with 2 blows. I lack the purpose of the money. I know that i can buy some crap to my house but thats really a minor motivation. There should be some expenses or necesities, on which im forced to spend money.

To you maybe. But to me and a lot others it's just clicking the same buttons and looking at the same scenes, it's hardly "hard work". And the rewards are just some virtual stuff that you can get in 5 mins with other alternate ways.
The only thing real here is the time you spent.

But the main point is if you enjoy it or not. From your posts I guess you enjoy doing the same stuff over and over again even in a single player game. But for most players(and most normal human beings) do not like doing the same stuff over and over again.
Just look at the other poll over there, most people think casting the same spell for 30 mins as boring already, do you think they would like to cast it or do some other similar monotonous things for some hours or even days?

If Bethesda make the money making methods in this game as boring and monotonous as the MMORPGs out there I bet even more people will complain.

How do you feel about that?

How do I feel? One of three ways:

A. I wish it was harder to make so much money, not so much that there were fewer ways to do it. World building as it were, why is everyone else so poor? I'd be happy to be stuck at middle class levels of wealth for longer (or for the illusion I was). And even a harder go at the beginning - feeling that I am a adventurer just managing to scratch out a living in such hard times. With hard work (if I wanted to) I eventually make it to middle class. With some more effort (if I wanted to) I am rich.

B. If I must get rich I wish there were more things to spend it on. Things to spend it on relating to my houses. Things to spend it on relating to cities/guilds I am in charge of. Tax me. Have Thieves stealing from my home while I am not there (unless I have forked out and hired elite guards or paid my guild dues). Let me buy a boat or summer castle out somewhere nice. Then give me things to spend more money on relating to that. Let me become patron of the orphanage or sponsor explorers.

or the most preferable:

A and B together. Make it harder to make money, so it takes effort to get to the level where you can start spending it on things mentioned in B (and then you probably can't afford all that at once - the difference between being comfortably rich and super rich).

Yes ultimately as much as I love Skyrim money accumulation is unsatisfying beyond a certain point - it doesn't feel like as much of an accomplishment beyond a certain point. In short I like the idea of reasons to work towards accumulating wealth (other than just accumulating wealth).
