It's been months and yet NO FIX?!?!

Post » Sat Oct 10, 2009 7:06 pm

Why is the faction bug still around? Surely Bethesda hasn't forgot about it have they?
For those that do not know about this, some factions when vilified with them WON'T attack you.

I've noticed this with the Powder Gangers, NCR and the Legion so far. And both the PC and Xbox 360 version has the problem, not too sure about the PS3.
I know many people have this problem and to be honest it is game breaking, no matter what people say. How can you possibly play a game where your enemies will not attack you first?

Before people start trying to be all smart let me say I am not wearing faction Armour.

So please Bethesda, fix this mistake you have made. It's been going on for far too long, your customers would like to play the game they bought which you made.

That isn't the point. It makes the game easy and less challenging. No one can defend Bethesda's actions on this, not after all this time. Its been months.

There are actually still some bugs relating to the Gamebryo engine which have been around since Oblivion which still haven't been fixed if I remember correctly.
Also it could be that the game testers cannot find this factional bug (which I've not seen myself in any of my playthroug of New Vegas) and thus can't know what the exact problem is which also means that they can't fix it without knowing what is the cause of the problem.

Surely with all the feed back in the last few months they would of noticed something? There are videos out there showing the bug too. I've played through oblivion and encountered no game breaking bugs, but some may. Same with fallout 3, as far as I can tell I haven't encountered a game breaking bug, though the only one I've seen which isn't a big deal is Walter ( Correct? ) in megaton who disappears time from time.

I've read through the forums and many people have brought this up, so they can't be ignorant of it. It could be possible that the first patch brought the bug as I don't recall seeing it before it.

Why you blaming bethesda? They didnt make the game, and they arent making the patches.

Still it would be nice if Obsidian made another patch to fix the many bg and glitches in the game.

Isn't Bethesda the Publisher? In my opinion they are in the wrong just the same as Obsidian Entertainment seeing as they both failed to notice the bug and still are doing nothing about it.

When was the last patch? A few months ago if I remember? Or was it a few weeks?

Bethesda did the QA, and if I remember right also the patches.

Obsidian did the game itself.

Bethesda did the patches? Possibly their fault then, as I started experiencing the bug after one of the patches as I said in one of my earlier posts.

Is it really a bug? You become vilified with a faction but if they react to you accordingly at certain points in the game some quests become impossible.

Also, I find the reputation changes that spread across the map instantly a bit odd, it would be more realistic if it took time.

Is it a bug? (or do the low-level thugs just run from the 27th level PC?).

In Fallout 2 (and 3), if you were sufficiently threatening, attackers might just run.

*If this actually is the case, then its not something I'd want "fixed".

Knowing about it and being able to reproduce it are two different things. And if they can't reproduce it, they probably can't fix it.

Just throwing this out there, I'm not fully up to speed about "known issues" and their status...

It is well known that video game developers enjoy a little more than their fair share of schadenfreude from time to time

Fine I'll explain my play throughs and if push comes to shove I'll take screen shots just to prove my points.

I reach Nipton after getting a few quests from the Mojave outpost, I pick up the quest Booted from the General store from the Powder Ganger. I then head towards the town hall where that Legion commander comes up to me, on the majority of my play throughs I go along and take the quest without complimenting him. I then enter the town hall and dispatch the dogs in there. I head back to Mojave outpost and hand in the quests that involved Nipton.

I then follow the marker of the main quest east along a road where there are abandoned cars, mines under cones and vipers I think upon the mounts waiting to Ambush you. After killing them I carry along the road north and there is always a Legion Patrol that consists of 4 men and some times 2 dogs. As I'm neutral at this point they do not attack me so I attack them and take their gear but I DO NOT equip it. I either get Shunned or hated at this point but never Vilified. I then head into the Cabin just up the hill on the right of the road where the unique Cleaver is. I rest for an hour and carry on towards the Bridge that 2 Travelling Merchants are passing. Sell the stuff I picked up from the dead Legion members and go along the road where there are two groups of two Legionnaires on either side of the road, one group infront of a bill board and the other just on the right but a bit hard to see. Seeing as I'm either Shunned or Hated they should be red at this point and attack me, but they do not so I kill them thus getting Vilified finally.

Now as I carry on long the road, just before the billboard where some vipers are hiding behind, the two Legion Assassins come after me. Some times they get into a fight with the NCR patrol in the area or they fight with the Merchants. Or rarely they meet both groups and get killed. But either way they die. Still Vilified and I understand they do not turn red until they speak to you.

I go towards the camp for the quest Booted where the two Powder Gangers are, but sadly the entire camp are blue to me. What ever, I kill them and do the quest. Now on every play through I quickly go to the Coves where you take a boat to the Fort and the entire place is blue to me. Same as Nelson. Yet I am still vilified. Its pathetic its gone on this long.

Same goes for NCR, when I kill one I see they are still blue to me and can still pick up quests. Its broken for me, but the chances that its like that after a patch and on both xbox and pc? And not only me have the problem.

I had that bug with may last play through. Vilified by the legion, they sent a hit squad after me (immediately - those guys don't hang about!) and then the next time I saw them they showed up yellow on the hud and didn't attack, although I was still vilified according to my Pip-Boy.

It's not the only bug though. There's still quest bugs and various other issues. Hopefully a patch will be along sometime soon....

The bug that they wont attack you before you reach the Strip? The "bug" is that you vilify a faction early in the main quest, they wont attack you on sight, as they might overwhelm a new character after you make the mistake of vilifying them.
