With that much money you could build a very good PC but if you are intent on getting a console, I would go for the PS3. I have both and the PS3 seems to have loads more extra features which makes it good for more than just gaming.

This isn't the forum to ask about getting a console for Skyrim, I'm afraid. There are to many PC elitists who'll defend getting a PC to the death.

If you got he route of getting a console, you'll probably have an easier time control wise, but graphically, you do suffer a little bit. I find the mouse and keyboard mechanic maddeningly irritating. The upside to using a pc is mods. Mods are a great way of lengthening the amount of time, effort, and enjoyment you get out of a game for a lot of players. Build your own pc and you will get to play with mods and stuff, and get the best graphics. Ge a console and you'll be able to just jump in a play with ease. Whichever you prefer works. My opinion? Go console.

Even upgrading your current PC would be cheaper and far better than getting a console.

Actually, at this point, yes you are crazy.

The PS3 and Xbobx360 will get old in a few years (as will a PC you buy now), but a PC would be a better choice if you really have *extra* money.

It is a bit late in the consoles life span which is both good and bad. Yeah you can get one cheap(I would not get the cheapest I don't think it has a hard drive), but in a couple years it will be replaced. But I love my 360, my PS3 and my computer.

Just out of curiosity, how much are Blu-Ray players going for these days?

No idea, all I know is that a few months back (probably closer to a year ago), it was cheaper to buy a PS3 for watching blu-ray than buying the actual blu-ray player-thing.

I think you'd get more "mileage" so to speak if you buy a PC. For 1-2k you could get a top of the line computer. If your handy, you could build it yourself which would make it even less. I made a great one for only 1k in parts. But if you really want it to be a console, I'd have to say go PS3. I used to only have a 360 and was happy with it, but the whole paying for multiplayer really got under my skin. So I bought a PS3 too. You get blueray player, great games. Most games are multi-console. If a game comes out that I I might play multiplayer on, I always get it for PC or PS3.

Hehe PC gamers :D

360 would be fine and significantly less than PC.

Personally I plan to build a new gaming PC in February so i'm going 360 for launch then getting PC version of skyrim down the road when a GOTY edition comes out.

You would be insane to buy a console instead of building a PC since you have that much money... period.

Consoles are for casual gamers or gamers who just cannot afford PCs, I need to stress to you that you can have one built for $600-900 that will play every game out (depending on which end of this spectrum you pick)

If you're really interested in the community that offers the best immersion and scenery, as well as MODS, head over to www.overclockers.com and post your budget limit in the "General Hardware" section, let them know your main focus is playing Skyrim on (your graphic settings) to be honest wanting to play on HIGH settings wouldn't be that expensive at all.

Thread title: "$XXX budget, I want to play SKYRIM!"

Members over there will flock to help you, not to mention you will have a media outlet that will do much much more and be worth more in the long run. Investing in 5+ year old hardware because it's cheaper isn't smart, old hardware is ALWAYS cheaper.

take a wild on the wild side man, if you got $6000 back from FAFSA you deserve to reward yourself anyway. They usually give me about $800, so I assume you have a 3.6 GPA or higher.

I got full tuition for my university paid for as well as 6,000 extra for "expenses". I want Skyrim so friggin bad that I've been thinking about getting a console just for it. Idk if it's out for xbox 360 or not, if it is, just 100 bucks for one. My PC can run Oblivion in crappy graphics, but I know Skyrim will utterly make my laptop bend down to its knees. Am I crazy for considering getting a console just for Skyrim? Would you do it?

sounds ok. after all i got an xbox360 just for halo and nver regretted it.

I haven't seen any elitism in this thread. You console fans seem way more defensive than the PC fans. All the threads here that deal with PC or consoles end up the exact same way. People stating facts and other screaming elitism at them for it. Makes no sense, It's simply a reality of life that the consoles aren't nearly as capable as a good PC. Skyrim on my PC will be better than Skyrim on any console. So if your gonna buy a platform just to play Skyrim shouldn't you buy the best platform you can?

The thread title says it all. Hey is buying something JUST for Skyrim. So buy a PC and have the best Skyrim you can have and also have a PC which you need for school work and a lot of other things any way. OR buy a Video game console to play JUST this one game. The PC is the obvious best choice and with his budget he could build a crazy good machine that will last him for years. He would just be much better off with the PC, unless he got a used console dirt cheap and even then who knows how much life it would have left in it. Buying one of the consoles at full retail price to play only one game would be insane, but buying a PC you can use for your one game and everything else you need would be completely sane and a much better use of his money.

Get a PC instead, you can get a good PC that can run Skyrim pretty cheap, and it'll do a lot more than an XBOX, you'll get mods and can tweak your .ini which gives TES games a lot more replayability.

This.

Srsly, TES without mods? lol

really.. if you got $6000 to blow on a game, might as well get a top of the line PC, and new TV to hook it up to, and gamepads, and sound system... and you'll probably still be under budget.... :flamethrower:

How long do you think an xbox will hold out for till they announce the next console? half a year?

If you're starting uni, you're insane to spend a ton of money on a pc, get the xbox (be aware that these forums are full of pc players also)

Just a warning - if I have to come into this thread to clean up the usual PC vs. Console bickering, warnings and suspensions will be handed out. Already, I could find a number of posts that we'd all be better off without, but I'm hoping a mod post is going to be all that's needed. Please don't prove me wrong.

I'm doing that for the same reason. The upkeep of keeping a comp able to run the newest game is straining on one's wallet.

I disagree, if his laptop breaks he can't type an essay on his xbox. Besides, a gaming computer to play Skyrim on high would be between $540-900 tops.

I'm doing that for the same reason. The upkeep of keeping a comp able to run the newest game is straining on one's wallet.

This is also a common misconception, 90% of games today are developed with consoles in mind. If you built a computer that is up to date hardware wise you will not have to upgrade it for any game until the next generation of consoles raise the bar.

My only aim to is clear up common misconceptions and get OP the best deal. If I get in a flame war or insult someone I would expect you to remove me from the community, and I would do the same if I were in your shoes.

If you don't want to spend a significant chunk of your 6K, get the 360. It's cheap and there's lots of other good stuff you can try out soon (Arkham City, Mass Effect 3 (here's hoping it's more like ME1 than ME2), Gears of War 3). Of course, you could shell out a lot more cash and have access to Skyrim's mods. If you're not that interested in mods, go with the 360 (it's a lot more money for mod access and marginally better graphics).

If you think you'll play other games as well as Skyrim, then yes. If not, then maybe think about not doing it.

If there's no room in the dorm for a brand new desktop instead, then yes buy a console for Skyrim.

Yes.

Spend a little more and upgrade your PC, or buy a new one. Mods and the CK certainly deserves it.
