I got full tuition for my university paid for as well as 6,000 extra for "expenses". I want Skyrim so friggin bad that I've been thinking about getting a console just for it. Idk if it's out for xbox 360 or not, if it is, just 100 bucks for one. My PC can run Oblivion in crappy graphics, but I know Skyrim will utterly make my laptop bend down to its knees. Am I crazy for considering getting a console just for Skyrim? Would you do it?

A better laptop/PC would be a better option IMO. You can use it for gaming AND for school.

But you should be able to get a console pretty cheap if you buy a used one.

I personally prefer the 360 experience to the PS3 and PC.

360 is desinged for gaming and its beautifully designed remote fits perfect in your hand for easy gaming. PC mouse and keyboard I find aukward and unatural and PS3 remotes are uncomfortable and clumsy imo... 360 all the way =)

I wouldn't touch a console with a ten foot pole. Buy an uber PC. Much better choice.

You can get a wicked PC for 1500 $ and be able to crank up the graphics to the max, add mods, configure settings to your personal preference, have more control with keyboard & mouse, etc...

If I were you I would buy a new PC.

Get a PC instead, you can get a good PC that can run Skyrim pretty cheap, and it'll do a lot more than an XBOX, you'll get mods and can tweak your .ini which gives TES games a lot more replayability.

I'd definitely prefer a PC myself, but if you're on a budget, 360 will be alright. To get the most out of the game, get it for PC eventually though.

I tend to enjoy these type of games on console more because I actually play it than on the PC where I always seem to never be happy with which mods I use and spend most of my time mod hunting and tweaking the game and also trying to find ways around bugs.

I would have to agree that a PC would be the way to go. It would
serve you much better than a console since you can do so many
other things on it as well. $1500 definitely will buy you a 'wicked'
one as someone else said.

I'm a PC user but I'd think your fine with a 360. A new laptop might be a win then hooking it up to a TV then using the 360 controller beats the 360. But that can put you back a fair amount of money.

Thing is, I fear if you dislike or get bored of Skyrim you'll regret your purchase.

I also own a 360, mind you a developers kit, but practically the same thing. If your in any budget mindset and your PC is failing you a new one both for browsing/work/school/gaming is the way to go.

Otherwise go ahead and buy an xbox.(You know Microsoft was offering free consoles to collegiates such as yourself if you bought a PC right?)

However be mindful of any impending price drops and the fact that a multiplayer gold membership racks up to be quite a pretty penny from your wallet.

Here's a secret: you can have the best of both worlds if you buy a Windows 360 controller.

It's a perfectly reasonable idea... although if you're adamant on purchasing a console, I'd recommend the PS3 or at least never buying the $200 360 that doesn't have a hard drive. Trust me, hard drive = good, but more importantly, you'll get similar general performance out of a PS3, it's cheaper in the long run (assuming you plan on paying $60 a year for Xbox Live service; plus that recent price cut lowered the PS3's base model's, complete with hard drive, initial price to $250, so the thing is a steal compared to the 360), it comes with a Blu-Ray drive as a standard (can watch Blu-Ray movies... a.k.a. full HD movies), and is just, overall, a better product, in my opinion, with a longer-lasting appeal should you decide to become attached to your platform beyond just Skyrim. Of course, yes, a decent PC will be better than either but for console-gaming, the 360 simply is a bad choice in comparison to its main competitor, in my opinion.

edit: I forgot you mentioned getting your 360 for $100. Where are you getting that from? If you're considering getting a used 360 and/or one of the non slim models... don't... because that's insane.

I tried doing that with oblivion, and you can do it. But it's nowhere near as good as on the 360. After all, the game was designed to play with mouse + keyboard. That means that if you move your thumbstick forward, you can only stand still or go at full speed. If you aim, it's pretty much the same problem. And the rumble wont work.

Anyways, the figures everyone is throwing out here aren't really making the PC look good. Remember, buying a 360 now will cost 200 at most (if used especially), so a 1000 dollar pc will already cost 5 times as much. If you just want to play skyrim, buying a console would be more price efficient.

We plan to do just that. We need more than one something to play it on and my hubby's xbox died last year so we are getting another so he and I can both play at the same time. Me on my pc and him on the xbox. I will more than likely take his for a spin, but he isn't allowed to touch my pc and his pc won't handle it.

It's Sane. I'm Building a top of the line Custom Gaming PC just for Skyrim (although I'm getting many other games, Skyrim is at the top of my list)

I got an original xbox just for Morrowind, and a 360 for Oblivion. Of course, theres like lots of other games for them so...it pays itself. Maybe upgrading your PC is more cost effective (if you already have an HDTV, then I guess its fine). I personally have an old PC that cant play modern games, and the 360 suits me just fine.

Getting a console for just one game? That's insane. And I see no point in buying several years old hardware.
