Behind the Scenes Screenshots. What can we find?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:13 pm

I watched that behind the scenes video with Todd Howard at Bethesda. I know, we have all seen it.. but has anyone ever really taken the time to look at the white board and the Skyrim map? I decided to take 6 screen shots of the white board (yes, all different) and 2 of the big Skyrim map/sticker that shows locations and other written information on it. I figured you guys would like a still image of these since we might be able to actually process what was written and come up with possibilities and probabilities.

I notice things like the crafting table, auto pick up gold, "Only show good items", etc. The maps show things like "Divine State" and "Supreme Ruler". Maybe some lore guru's out there can actually come up with a hypothesis to some of what was written. I have set the images to 1920 x 1080 which is my screen resolution to offer a nice big image of the text. This was taken from the best resolution video available from the Game Informer's website. I hope you guys appreciate it. Like I said, I know the video isn't new but I haven't seen anyone actually discuss the writings on the white board or the map itself.

We dissected every single thing we possibly could from the GI coverage about 4 months ago. There is not a morsel untouched. Can't wait for E3.

Well I was hoping something would catch someone's eye, which is why I took all that time making the screen shots and uploaded them. If someone does find something useful then neat, if not.. I tried :P

There are a lot of new members joined since then, it is a good discussion topic - if you have nothing useful to add, don't post.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude. He asked "what can we find" and I answered him honestly. We've dissected everything. You're right though, a lot of new members have joined since then, so a lot of people will probably see stuff they haven't seen yet. My apologies.

The thing that probably intrigues me the most out of everything there is the "only show good items". I wonder exactly what does that elude to?

You mean only show good loot in enemy NPC's inventory?

It's not clear to me whether these notes are about Skyrim, or Fallout... certainly the 'detected' 'undetected' 'caution' 'danger' in the top left of the first screenshot are a feature of Fallout, but maybe they've been carried over into Skyrim. I'm sure I remember reading something in a recent interview about the eye-crosshair, which appeared in Oblivion when sneaking, making a return. So perhaps it will be a combination of Fallout and Oblivion in this respect. The 'Detected/Danger. Duh - the people trying to kill you!' is interesting... maybe this means there will be no distinction between 'detected' and 'danger' since it will be pretty self evident if someone is attacking you.

A couple previews did mention the eye crosshair returning and the two stealth states of alert and detected I believe.

I think it's the opposite, since above it's written. "How to tell the difference between detected / danger ?" ... and the arrow to the above "bubble" is only originated by "danger" ... so >danger< must be: "the people are trying to kill you" in contrast to only being "detected". ;)

Edit: I find the "crafting" sketch even more interesting. Espescially the "Player playing cool anims"- note. :hubbahubba:

It looks like we will have a better stealth system. The whole detected, undetected, caution, danger makes me think that the stealth system will be based on a bar. Or a circle that slowly empyiesletting you know when people are able to detect you. See the top left of http://th3angrygam3r.deviantart.com/art/Bethesda-White-Board-01-207039161

I am glad someone caught the humor there ;). I almost drew on Todd's face for the map picture LOL

edit: i dont think this is for fallout.. Fallout 3 is a bethesda game of course and they were probably discussing the mechanics in fallout and how they could improve upon it or what they would like to have carry over. The crafting animations also has me interested.

It's confirmed that detection will be based off the eye crosshair. When it's closed you're undetected and the more the eye opens the more detected you become.

Also, in this map-screen:

http://th3angrygam3r.deviantart.com/art/Bethesda-Skyrim-Map-2-207040579

... I was wondering, why there is a "dark square" in the lake south-west of Riverwood ? Don't dark squares normally indicate small towns / dungeons (or at least those "special points of interest") ? Does this mean, there's something special in / below the lake ? Would be awesome, if you ask me (always hoped for a secret city / dungeon in the water). B)
Does anybody know more ? - Maybe Dragonborn1, since it was all discussed already ?

this would be interesting and plausible since in Oblivion they had ruins under water. Remember though that they used this dry erase skyrim map as also a way to remind everyone what was currently under development as they stated in the video. They might just be "Zones" of current development. Never know though.

edit:@Dragonborn I did not edit any of the images lol. I was just teasing that I was thinking of adding a manly stache on todd's face for kicks. No but I knew that screenshot was irrelevant but funny. That is all I meant.

This sounds good and would be really nice ... to bad, I can't read what's written below the square. Maybe if I / we were able to zoom a little closer ... will try it tomorrow with a special picture-viewer.
Btw: thanks for the pics ! :icecream: They were not all new to me, but I have'nt seen them in this high resolution yet.

I am quite curious as to what the blue, red and yellow squares are for on the map. Bethesda is always good about including some interesting dungeons and whatnot. I love looking at stuff like this and just imagining what it could be. Creative thinking.

Sniper ghost warrior had a stealth system based on a bar. It went HORRIBLY wrong.
