Being a dragon?

Turning into a dragon would be stupid. It would just be a rip off from another popular rpg.

Hey guys,

A few minutes ago I was reading the IGN interview with Todd Howard and on the end the IGN journalist asked:

His answer immediatly caught my eyes. He says: Not in the way you're asking. Perhaps it means you can transform yourself into a dragon? Shadeshift your Dragon Born character into a dragon?

Your thoughts?

Todd was making a joke. sixual innuendo...

I think its a distinct possibility. I jumped to the same conclusion from a previously given evasive answer, although I can't recall where it was now. He's hinting at something and changing into a dragon is supported by Lore.

Our character will most likely be an aspect of Shor sent to settle the score with Alduin. The only time we would see any dragon transformation would be an avatar, and only then it would just be somebody else that would transform.

You are the Dovahkiin, the Dragonborn and have the ability to absorb the souls of dragons. In this game we are the uber-hero! Why is it so far fetched that we could eventually take on dragon form?

Bleh, I hate being the uber hero...

Turning into a dragon would be okay if they approached it well. If we get to be a flying dragon, but don't get levitate I'm gonna be pissed.

that's what i'm thinking in how it could happen. In the lore it's rumored that Tosh Raka, leader of the Tiger people of Ka Po' Tun, has succeeded in transforming himself into a dragon, a rumor which is substantiated by Mysterious Akavir.

source: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragons

A rumor "substantiated" by mysterious Akavir? MYSTERIOUS AKAVIR CREATED THAT RUMOR! Also, Tosh Raka is most likely the Ka Po' Tun's Akatosh (though with more of an auriel flavour to it), rather than any creature like Nafaalilargus.

how about a very difficult sidequest unlocked at the near main quest ending stage? one which pits you against an elder dragonborn spirit guarding the dragon shout tablet in the lowest depths of the biggest mountain in skyrim.

TBH, no one really knows what exactly Todd meant by the dragon comment. It COULD have been a six joke but the only person who knows for sure at this point would be Todd.

I find it very hard to believe that the player will be able to actually play as a dragon, I feel like that is a bit of a stretch. But then again Im not a BS developer so Im not going to crush anyone elses dreams when at this point all we can do is speculate.

There are too many people trying to be know it alls....Sometimes information can be your worst enemy. All it does is lead people to draw wild conclusions about things they know little about. To top it off, people always want to assume they are experts when it comes to Skyrim features, and its silly and wrong.

what he meant is that you cant use the dragon as a mount like a horse
but that the dragon can "carry" you through the skies while you fight him

It was in the clearly defined "silly questions" section of the interview.

Let it go.

The thread really should have ended after this.

In my yet to be released video that I keep bringing up, I too put forward the idea that we may indeed become a dragon in order to fight Alduin. No doubt Alduin's a gargantuan beast, so what better way than to fight him on fair ground? Martin did it, so why can't we? Minus the death of course; for we are the chosen warrior.

Informed speculation is still speculation. I'm under the impression that speaking in absolutes about an unreleased game is foolish. Skyrim is uncharted territory during an undocumented time in the history and lore of the Elder Scrolls. Who knows what will take place. Let's not condemn others for having an open mind...especially since that's one of the main purposes of this forum.

Guy has a point. I mean a "Dragon-born" absorbing dragon essence after killing them, if anyone could turn into a dragon, it'd be him.

That would be pretty cool.

Damn, now I want to be a dragon. :[

apparently the dragons themselves are rumored to have the ability to shapeshift in order to disguise themselves.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragons "It has been suggested that they may be able to shapeshift in order to disguise themselves"

what if that ability comes from a dragon shout? it would make sense.

I think he means you can be picked up by a dragon and thrown through a clock tower.

I think he means the dragon can snatch you and fly around with you then drop you off and try to finish you. or you can jump on the dragon and do some sort of finishing move.

This by far is the most logical scenario.

But to be real here people. How would the combat system integrate into playing as a dragon?

I'm assumeing you all mean we block with our wings & hit them with our dragon claws, And my frost spell is going to come flowng out of my characters mouth.
