Being a dragon?

Post » Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:08 pm

Hey guys,

A few minutes ago I was reading the IGN interview with Todd Howard and on the end the IGN journalist asked:
IGN: Can you ride dragons in Skyrim?

Todd Howard: Not in the way you're asking.

His answer immediatly caught my eyes. He says: Not in the way you're asking. Perhaps it means you can transform yourself into a dragon? Shadeshift your Dragon Born character into a dragon?

Your thoughts?

Sharing the idea is fair enough, and I'm sure in some limited sense that would be a lot of fun. That interpretation of what he is saying, though, seems far fetched to me. You're perfectly welcome to speculate though.

It was in the clearly defined "silly questions" section of the interview.

Let it go.

Martin does something very similar at the end of Oblivion. I think it's plausible that it will be in Skyrim.

I think that "Not in the way you are asking" was a sixual reference to one subsubject of one thread that appeared on this forum. Don't remember which unfortunatly.
Just like he say the unicorns would be DLC for 100 dollars and levitation for 300, he was probably joking.

I think he means you can be picked up by a dragon and thrown through a clock tower.

Actually...I don't think the OP might be far off.

Consider the gameplay trailer. How did they get the first person flying view of the dragon? They were supposed to have made the video entirely from the Xbox game video clips. Maybe they decided to get fancy and use the player-as-dragon first person to imitate the dragon stalking the player.

Martin transformed into an avatar of Akatosh. This has nothing to do with Skyrim. We won't be able to turn into any dragon in Skyrim whatsoever. This statement already has like 3 threads running. I'm begging people to use the search function.

Honestly, you have no idea whether we will be able to or not. It's all speculation at this point. And to say that transforming into the avatar of Akatosh has nothing to do with Skyrim is also speculative. Seeing how Akatosh (Alduin) has an important role in Skyrim, who knows what effect that may have on our character in the end.

Oh, and the search function is very unreliable. FYI.

Well then look on the first two pages and see this topic on those. If you have a good foundation in the lore, you'd know that it would be a next to nothing chance that it would happen. Our character will most likely be an aspect of Shor sent to settle the score with Alduin. The only time we would see any dragon transformation would be an avatar, and only then it would just be somebody else that would transform.

Informed speculation is still speculation. I'm under the impression that speaking in absolutes about an unreleased game is foolish. Skyrim is uncharted territory during an undocumented time in the history and lore of the Elder Scrolls. Who knows what will take place. Let's not condemn others for having an open mind...especially since that's one of the main purposes of this forum.

Maybe a Dragon Shout?

It could be cool, a very difficult to achieve dragon shout could turn you into a dragon.

that's what i'm thinking in how it could happen. In the lore it's rumored that Tosh Raka, leader of the Tiger people of Ka Po' Tun, has succeeded in transforming himself into a dragon, a rumor which is substantiated by Mysterious Akavir.

source: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dragons

having that ability as a dragon shout would be awesome.
