Dave heard the words of Benson, calling him. Dave was froze in thought...thinking. The book had not only awoken some of hell he has been through..but something more, some good. The images of the dead swirled in his head forming a dark red cloud in his mind. But, in the darkness there was a faint light, a slimmer of redemption. In a instance he had accessed a long forgotten memory. Dave saw the blue light and he came closer to it....but before he could touch it, it mutated into a image of horror, a image of Kyle Smith killing his son. Usualy this would send Dave into a fit of anger or depression, but not this time. Dave watched with no emotion.
"[censored] this" he said and walked into the darkness. He emerged on the other side still in the basemant. He then headed upstairs and heard the noises of swampfolk. He peaked around the corner and saw them surrounding Benson. He looked checked his ammo " 75 rounds, it will do..."
A idea then struck Dave....Across the room there was a lantern next to the wooden wall. Dave picked up a ruined book nearby and tossed it at the lantern, breaking it and catching the wood on fire and thus setting the house ablaze. The swampfolk panicked and ran out of the house.
"Benson! Its time to get the hell out of here!" yelled Dave
As the two fled the house a large wooden chunck of the sealing landed on Dave knocking him to the ground. Benson ran ahead not knowing what just happened. There was Dave being ingulfed in flames.
He was not afraid, he welcomed death. Death would be a release from the torment that his life has been. He smiled and layed back, awaiting death. It did not come. Dave heard a familiar voice.
"Dont give up, you can do it."
The voice was Daves son.
Dave replyd in a strained voice " no I failed you...I failed your mother...I failed myself."
" You dident fail dad, as long as you live I will be with you, me and mom. I love you dad" The voice then faided.
Dave knew what he had to do. " This cant be the end, I WONT LET IT BE THE END!" He yelled.
He forced the wood off of his body and ran through the flame ingulfed house. "I will survive this, I will not fail, I will not die here today!"
Dave found himself chocking in the smoke and his body on fire. He was lucky in the fact that he saw the exit. He ran out and tore his armor off to avoid the flames.
Dave then found himself gasping for breath, on the ground in pain. "Thanks son" where his last words before his vision faided to black.
