Benirus Manor?

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 8:34 am

I want to move to Benirus manor, and I know that there's a quest with it and after the quest they furnish the house, but even after that I feel that the house is still empty. Either rooms are too bright, too dark or, yeah, plain. Is there anything I can do to make it feel more home like, or brighter? I have the vanilla version for Xbox, so the best I can do is place items around.
It's still dark and plain though.

On the Xbox, no, there's really not much you can do to make it any brighter. As for adding more clutter, the best you can do is collect stuff and then dump it around the house. Kinda limited without mods.

To make it brighter, you can drop lit torches. I believe that to make it work, you must equip a torch, drop it, leave the cell, and then re-enter.

Then place them in places which would make the whole house seem brighter, like in the corner of certain rooms or whatever. To my knowledge, they never go out. If they do, simply repeat the process.

As for looking plain, just self-decorate. Pick up interesting, or unique items, and throw em wherever you like within the house. :)

This. Bowls filled with gems and jewels look really nice (and sparkly!), as well as some of the ingredients look interesting on tables. If your character is into alchemy, for example, decorate a table with alchemy apparatus and various ingredients. If your character is a pure mage, stick some scrolls somewhere. If your character is a warrior, shields especially make nice decorations. Make the house seem like your character's house with decorations. It'll feel less empty if the house is personal. ^_^

Yes. Arranging some varla and/or welkynd stones around can add some atmosphere and a little bit of light as well. A couple of the SI alchemy ingredients radiate a touch of their own light as well.

Wait a sec. I equiped it and then when I dropped it, it wasn't lit. :( What did I do wrong?
Edit: Nevermind. I tried a different technique and it works. Thank you for the idea though.

You can use paint brushes to create a rack for a permanent wall torch. Left-click-and-hold on the brush in your inventory, then place it in the air near the wall. it will float there. Set two of them them so they are pointing toward the wall. Light a torch and then lay it across the brushes. It will appear to go out but when you leave completely and come back, it should be lit.

If you should happen to get a PC. There is a mod that fixes the windows so that during the day, the house is well lit from natural light and it gets quite dark at night. It also installs a view of the outdoor scenery from the windows. It's not exactly like the street outside since it doesn't show rain but it does show weather. Also, no people but it is otherwise very accurate and realistic. Until I got that mod, I always just carried torches.

I'm going to do this. But, I don't know... when I dropped a torch it didn't really light up the room, instead it made it look like a part of my house got set on fire. >_<

Everyone has great ideas. If you find yourself with multiple copies of various matrices from the Shivering Isles, drop some of them and arrange those as well. You'll be surprised at how beautiful they are. I keep a silver bowl on a table just inside the front door of my house in Chorrol. I fill it with Flawless Pearls. It's almost overflowing, and the glow that comes from these is white and pretty. Don't use Flawed Pearls though, as they will glow yellow. Unless you dig that.

Angel has Sigil stones on some of her window sills. She takes no interest in the enchantments but she is fascinated by the energy emanating from the stones and finds the humming sound very soothing for sleep.
