Best and/or Worse Combat moment you had?

Post » Sun Apr 12, 2009 10:34 pm

So yeah, wondering what peoples best and worst combat moments whether they be moded or not.
xbox360 so no mods=
-Best had to be when I was on busy having fun with fiends and after sneaking into vault had the strangest glitch were only one fiend attack me at once(they all seemed to have melee and unarmed strangly). Felt like a test of endurance at the level I was (around 10ish)
-Worst was when had finished a fight against a large amount of ghouls in the testing grounds and thought everyone was dead, had no stimpacks so took out my annable looked around abit got hit on the back and shot point black in the face on a basic ghoul and killed myself.

Best.
Trying out the burnt out farmstead north of Searchlight after modding raiders in the geck.

Worst ( in a good way. )
Same.. when I realised on normal difficulty with a trail carabine / brush gun, cowboy and SWC rounds...
My level 24 character was getting pwn'd regularly and quickly.

Best: Every time I win.
Worst: Every time I lose. Luckily that's not often.

....I don't know tho...w/out mods, probably moments in the deathclaw promitary and the Fort would be the best. With mods, every time I'm surprised by a new huge clump of enemies for me to tangle with (haven't discovered all that the IWS does/places, yet).
...the only 'worst' I can think of (which was also kind of a best) was the Legendary Cazador the first time. I was kind of low level & had no idea it was in there and when I started walking up that pathway, bang. Probably died 4 or 5 times (even w/Boone along) until finally outsmarted it.

Wait a tick. They got a legendary cazador? I have no clue how i would miss that *goes onto fallout to find it*
But yeah alot of cazador's moments nearly took the high spot, with so many silly fails like killing them all only to found out i ran out of health items and the poison took me out

360.
Best, going nort-east of Goodsprings after 3 minutes in the game, great fun trying to run away from a dozen radscorpions.
Worst, triple holograms in Dead Money... I ragequit three times at that part.

On 360, glitch, happened 3 times, I enter VATS and my character freezes there without shooting the enemy that I designated, then I have to wait 10-60 seconds before I can control my character. (It takes a long time for my companions to kill the enemy :( )

Mods.

So I was doing started doing the New Vegas Bounties quest. Fast-travelled, killed some dogs. So then, thank to IWS, I see how far in the distance, with my modded binoculars, a pack of Fire Geckos. Now I'm like.. hmm.. might as well watch. So I keep watching them to see them come against a pack of Nightstalkers, again thanks to IWS. They apparently fight it out and the Fire Geckos win... then I see them go back to their original spot, only to see they attacked my target for the quest. And then I was like, "...I didn't even have to get my hands dirty didn't I?" And so I collected my reward when I came back.

....Kinda sad I deleted the footage by accident... *sigh* I guess this classifies as a combat moment but it was more like a spectator moment.

Yeah. Holograms are nightmares. Had to restart that part around oh 12-14 times.

I think my guy has been killed cause of that, set me back hours. Thank god you had a companion.

Well I did only say combat, so I suppose it can also mean others fighting. still that does sound epic though.

See the funny thing is... there was a Khan patrol nearby too... I think there was a second pack of Fire Geckos and the Geckos got wiped out. So overall, that was really fun to watch. Man, I gotta give props to Castle for making IWS create these kinds of moments.

Sometimes I actually wish they'd stop fighting each other so much....leave some for me, darnit.
It's awesome to watch, tho. Since I started using IWS I re-load a lot just to re-do fights for giggles...don't even care if I win half the time either, it's all about the chaos. Something about all those gun effects firing and people hollering and....too fun. Quiet Riot's "come on feel the noise" would be good music to listen to during...think I'll go do that now.

Using Increased Wasteland Spawns mod,

first time I wondered into Fiends territory.

It started at Camp McCarren shooting the expected fiend attack on the few NCR guards at the south wall. Dropped a few and thought they were done. Then fire rained down on the NCR troopers in front of me killing them and leaving me alone. A handful of fiends were chasing me now and I was out gunned so I decided the best thing to do was run up to the McCarren front gate and escape inside.

Then things went from bad to worse. NCR up ahead were fighting a dozen fiends with a security robot for support. No worries ? Wrong, the robot went down with several NCR and Fiends soldiers as a truck exploded. A truck I had accidentally exploded. A dozen or so NCR ahead and a dozen Fiends behind, all looking to kill me.

So I pumped the med -X and last turbo to make my escape, I ran past NCR troopers ahead, taking a few hits and took a look back to see them get absorbed into the swelling Fiend horde now overrunning them whilst chasing me down. Fiends poured in from across the bridge as I ran along side it.

My leg took a bad hit, I was out of turbo and limping from cover to cover pumping stim pack after stim pack to stay alive and not bothering to stop to shoot back. I patched up the leg and saw the gates of Westside up ahead. I had gained some ground and was looking at freedom but alas it was not over yet, up ahead between me and Westside was a playground with several Fiends patrolling. I was low on stims, had no idea how many fiends were coming up behind. I was sure the best action would be to sneak past the playground and make my escape into New Vegas Square instead.

I started sneaking up against the playground wall, so far so good. Then the horde caught up, bursts of plasma exploding against the wall. Now the Fiends in the playground saw me too, the game was up. So I ran some more, plasma and fire exploding behind each step, New Vegas Strip up ahead, I just needed to pass through a small stretch of shops ahead and could slow the horde behind me by moving through the ruined buildings.

Jumping over broken walls and through a shattered window I landed in the middle of the street, New Vegas Square just to the right of me. No fiends in sight, normally there's a patrol here watching the H&H ? Out walks a Fiend from around the corner of the H&H, smoking a cig and about to look right at me. Clank, clank of a grenade lands beside me and the chase is on again. I ran straight at the smoking Fiend ahead, she goes for her plasma rifle but I manage to pop one in her face making her stammer. The fiends behind me are in hot pursuit, pool cues in hand but I make it into New Vegas Square before they can catch me.

I enter the square and I keep running knowing in a second any number of Fiends may follow me in. I run past Crandon, who takes no notice then I see Jules. These guys are pretty tough ? Three of us can take down these Fiends, can't be that many ? So I stop and turn around, just in time to see Crandon melt into a puddle of goo. The cig smoking Fiend chick turns to me and takes aim whilst several Fiends are already all over Jules. Jules goes down in a storm of pool cues. Half a dozen more Fiends walk through the New Veags Square Gate. Junkies cris-cross the street for cover. The chase is still on.

So I run. I make it to the North Gate of Freeside, a bunch of Kings are standing around looking tough. The Fiends seemed to have stopped chasing me ? I made it ! As I'm walking up to the Kings hanging out at the gate one of them shouts out "woah !" and all three run past me, pulling out their 10mms. A few Fiends running at them with pool cues go down but manage to cripple one of the Kings. Then more come, overwhelming the few Kings with pool cues and plasma. I take out the chick with the plasma but don't have time to dodge the grenades landing around me and I'm knocked to the floor. I clamber at the gate as several Fiends smash my limbs with pool cues as I get up and just manage to make it into the gate. I hobble into Freeside and take cover behind a table covered in rat meat. A seedy man asks me if I want some grub but I turn my gaze to look to the gate. A puzzled looking gambler looks back at me as several Fiends appear around him. His taken apart by the pool cue maniacs.

My luck turns as a metal plated body guard draws his iron. They rush for him but he's quick on the trigger and true with his aim. Their headless corpses hit the ground. More enter the gate and the guard is clambering to reload, several more Kings run to join the fight. One Fiend reaches for a grenade so I place a bullet in his hand, taking his friends with him in a shower of limbs. The bodies are piling up. More fiends arrive and several Kings and bystanders go down but we're relentless with our shower of bullets on the invading Fiends.

Then it's over. Limbs of fallen Kings and broken Fiends litter the street. Me and the metal guy are ok, he tells me Freeside can be a dangerous place.

The seedy vendor returns to his table. There are now several severed limbs on his table along side his assortment of rat meat. He asks me if I want some grub.

Pick of the aftermath, if only the bodies didn't keep disappearing !

 Slug rounds, grenades molotov cocktails and other ammo types made it bad enough.
Heres a small bit from a good run one that I did not take much damage on.

I don't have a worst moment in mind bu I just remembered my best moment.

In my first playthrough I assaulted The Fort a bit unprepared and ended up with praetorians handing my butt to me in Ceaser's tent. Thinking close quarter combat against those crazies is suicidal in my current situation, I decided to lure them out. I readied my anti-material rifle, entered the tent, activated vats, shot Ceaser in the head and got out as quickly as I came in. Everyone in the tent must have been "wait what the hell?".

Now that I think about it, running around with those angry preatorians chasing me around the camp and taking a shot when I have enough distance between them and me could be the worst moment.

One of my best and also worst combat moments. Best, for the surprise and danger. Worst for the outcome for me.

It was my first attempt at wiping out the Super Mutants on Black Mountain. I came up the steep incline at night (Vegas side, while skipping the winding path up the road from the shack) and began making my way to the top. I killed a few mutants with my silenced Sniper Rifle and was sneaking alongside a building about to line up my rifle on a Super Mutant standing outside of the overturned radar dish. I squeezed off a shot and he started coming at me. My character was not all that poweful yet, but I still figured the outcome was going to be easily on my side. I saw the Super Mutant vary his attack slightly, but at the time did not think much of it. A Deathclaw must have been attracted by my path to the top or the action that took place, The battle went south very quickly for everyone but the Deathclaw. Being taken by surprise and without a suitable weapon for a quick Deathclaw dispatch, my fate was sealed. I went down shortly after the Super Mutant, who actually was killed by me. Even though I detected a change in his attack, I had absolutely no idea a Deathclaw was bearing down on both of us.

Killed......Reload.
