Best and Worst Fighter's Guild accomodations

Post » Sat Jun 12, 2010 1:15 pm

I'm running around with Dyan the paladin tonite, and she's been doing Fighter's Guild quests. It occured to me that some of these Guild Halls are better than others. Some have a floor to stay that's seperate from those creepy, intrusive Porters. Some guild halls even have their own seperate rooms.

But that's my criteria for letting Dyan stay in one of these halls (or perhaps it's actually Dyan's criteria). She has to have her own room with her own bed, with no creepy FG Porters staring at her the entire time. I realize others will have their own criteria (practice room, NPCs, food, design, etc) hence the poll.

I'm actually thinking Bravil and Leyawiin are on Dyan's best list for these reasons. Yea Bravil looks run-down and shabby, but hell...these are supposed to be soldier's barracks! They're not supposed to be all pretty-looking, you know? Some of these prettier Guild halls might be contributing to the laziness of the NPCs who constantly dwell in them, since the FG members hardly ever go anywhere.

I've got Cheydinhal, Anvil, Bruma, and perhaps one other hall all tied for Worst, simply because there's either nowhere to sleep (community beds only) or the Porter gets to stare at Dyan's fiery red hair the entire time. :stare:

Ha I was going to go with Bravil when I read the topic as I like the one there, for the very reasons you posted, the lack of creepy P's and a good warrior layout.
Now I'll look like I'm just voting with the OP to gain favour.

The worst for me, Anvil its a good guild but crowded and lacking in focus imo, though I do like the marines bunk feel to the sleeping arrangment.

Those damn porters are one a good reason to play Oblivion on PC (especially if one is playing as a female character *shudders*). The "Less Creepy Guild Porters" makes those perverts leave a person in peace when they sleep.

Anvil: I like Anvil's layout, generally. I lived in Georgia (USA) for awhile and Anvil's architecture always reminds me pleasantly of Savannah.
Bravil: I don't dislike Bravil's guild but I never felt a deep connection to it either. Overall it strikes me as being one of the blander guild halls.
Bruma: I love Bruma's stone-and-wood architecture. To me it feels warmer and cozier than most of the rest of the guilds.
Cheydinhal: the Cheydinhal guild has a balcony that I like to go sit on and relax when I'm in town. On the other hand it is also the scene of a traumatic event for one of my characters (as pictured in your "Am I hot? Or NOT?" thread).
Chorrol: Chorrol is a sentimental favorite for me, since I have always joined up there and have probably spent more time there than in any other guild hall. Vilena Donton (who lost a son) is one of the few Fighters Guild NPCs I feel a connection to.
Leyawiin: I'm not a big fan of Leyawiin-orange walls. I don't particularly enjoy spending time in that guild hall for that reason.
Skingrad: I like the look of Skingrad's guild hall and the layout as well. Next to Chorrol it is probably my favorite.

If I had to narrow it down to favorite/least favorite (not best and worst) I guess I would say Skingrad is probably my favorite and Bravil is my least favorite.

Slightly OT: in my very first game I must have wandered around the Imperial City for over an hour in real time looking for the Imperial City fighters guild. There was no Oblivion Wiki to look this stuff up on back then and I finally gave up in frustration. To this day I don't understand why the Imperial City, of all places, would not have a fighters guild.

I voted Bravil for best. It has Tadrose Helas, and that is enough for me.

Worse goes to Cheydinhal. It feels way too cramped for even just the four people regularly living there.

If I ever play a male character who goes thru the FG quests perhaps he'd feel more comfortable staying in the community rooms. But all 3 of my characters who have done FG (Renee Gade, Renee Gade II, and Dyan) have been females.

Buffy has only ever been inside two Fighter Guild halls.

She lives in Bravil and went in there once to deliver some supplies for Nilawen. They teased her and chased her out, so that one won't get her vote.

Once in Anvil, she was returning to her Mages Guild hall and was distracted. Well, you know what happened next since the MG and FG are side by side. She walked into the FG by mistake. A cute Redguard (she later learned his name is Azzan) told her, "I like what I see." She apologized and left of course. So based on that, she would have to say Anvil. At least they didn't chase her out.

Yes as a female rp'er or at least a female character role, I can see why bunking down there all together may put you off.
Damn that sounds more sixist than I meant, let me see if I can save myself here...

In real life I would hate having to bunk with others despite being male, but then I have a fixed abode, but as a character it would depend on the role..
A street urchin / hive rat grown up, would have no problem dossing down as long as she felt secure, neither would a itinerant warrior or someone who felt like the guild were family.

All this hopefully not put in to much of a borish manner said, my original comment was just to say Anvils a port and I liked the guild having that kind of sailor feel to it.

Its both Leyawiin, and Bravil.

I voted for Anvil and Leyawiin as my favourite, I just like the feel of Anvil, despite having communal beds. Leyawiin, because there's seperate rooms, and its huge.

Worst, Cheydinhal, its tiny, and there's only three beds there.

All Guild Halls svck for me because you almost always go to sleep alone and wake up with someone in your bed.

Best: Chorrol. It's the first one I saw, and I loved it, sure it doesn't have separate rooms, but it has a separate floor, which is good enough for me. Also, it has a training room under, and a archery range behind it. Plus, Chorrol is an awesome city, even the guild master lives there.

Worst: Cheydinhal. There's simply no reason for it to exist, all it's characters are useless clowns. Anvil and Leyawin are pretty bad too, because they're cramped, but Anvil atleast has good trainers, and Leyawin is the location of some pretty major events in the questline, making it memorable and charming in its own right.

Wow, what happened?

Oops sorry, it wasn't your thread, it was the "WTF Moments" thread. My character went to sleep in a Fighter's Guild bed and woke up with a totally naked Keld of the Isles in the same bed. She leaped out of bed...but not before my Dwemer camera snapped this incriminating shot: http://morrowind4kids.com/pseronwyrd/Screenshots/Sajin11.jpg

I had to restrain her from doing bodily harm to the guy. She went into therapy with a psychiatrist in Talos Plaza referred to her by Umbacano to get rid of her persistent nightmares of the incident and we didn't get back to doing Fighter's Guild quests for two weeks.

Oh yea, I remember seeing that pic! Ahhh are you kidding? I've always thought one of my characters would simply DIE to have Keld of the Isles in her bed! He's dreamy!

On a side note, my paladin was really getting sick of the orc who leads the Cheydinahl FG calling her "meat" all the time. She (and I) were reaally taking offense to it. But it's funny cuz last nite when he gave out his last contract, we actually started to think we'd miss that orc! :(

Best: Anvil. I like walking into a training room for reception. I knew these guys meant business. Plus, Azzan is one cool hombre.

Worst: Cheydinhal. Cream puffs. There has got to be something in the water...

1. Creepy FG Porters staring at her the entire time...
2. The Porter gets to stare at Dyan's fiery red hair the entire time. :stare:

I have a mod that alters their respawn, sets their health to 1, and has them wander off to the IC on Mondays. Yes, I do find pleasure in finding their corpses. :)

Chydinhal really is the worst by popular vote it seems.
Maybe thats why you get sent there as a boot, I wander if its a punishment for big Burz?
Pack him in with some retired has beens with punk hairstyles, and send him all the tendor meat to tendorize and season, just like Stripes.

I have to vote for Anvil as the worst guildhall. Great people there, don't get me wrong (except for the porter), but my characters can never find a spare bed there when they need one.

Skingrad gets the best guildhall vote for me, because 1) I like Parwen with her funky beehive hairdo and her chipper attitude 2) Fadus Calidius sometimes like to eat his breakfast downstairs in his underwear, which always makes me laugh, and 3) they are passionate about killing goblins.

For once I'm with the majority opinion (as of 10/10/10). Problem with Cheydinal is that its few beds are almost always taken during normal evening sleep hours. (Thankfully the Mages Guild, with its roomy bed-filled basemant, is right next door.) I like both Anvil and Chorrol. Today I picked Anvil. Another day might see me go the other way. All this said, I don't really "dislike" any hall.

Were I to base my choice on residents, that cute Bosmer lass Parwen at the Skingrad hall is hard to beat.
