Best and Worst of the Daedra

Post » Tue May 07, 2013 11:26 am

In response to my first topic here is a better version of the much heated debate about the daedric princes.

EDIT: Sorry for mispelling Ebony Blade as Balde.

Lorkhan isn't a daedric prince, he is a Padomic aligned spirirt, but he is not a Daedra.

Just FYI.

Molag Bal is the worst by far, followed by Mehrunes Dagon.

Azura and Meridia are the best.

In the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, NPC Mankar Camoran claimed Lorkhan is a Daedra whose Daedric plane is "Dawn's Beauty ... misnamed Tamriel by deluded mortals".

I was referring to this and the possibility of him being a daedric prince.

Mankar says all kinds of stuff.
Right now I'd say the 'best' Prince is Peryite, who just wants to keep the natural order going. And... Azura comes off as spiteful and self-entitled.
Eltonbrand is the best artifact, obviously. Hermaaeuus Moora deserves five minutes in the spotlight, and if rumors are true, will receive them fairly soon.
About Lorkhan, if he's a (the?) worldly creator, wouldn't that just rule him out of being a Daedra? Aedra participated in creation, Daedra did not (excluding their own spheres of Oblivion). It's what sets them apart, right?

What rumors I had not heard as such? and it does and doesnt set them apart. There has been speculation on one daedra who used to be an aedra I believe. Of course I could be mistaken.

Meridia was an Aedra. I'll have to update a bit before discussing about Lorkhan, there's a fair chance I'll just flop on simple facts. What was that of Padomaic and Anuic spirits... was Lorkhan said to be Padomaic, like the majority of Daedra?
About the rumors, I refer to the talk of new Skyrim beta patch files including names like "HMDaedra".

Meridia is not an Aedra. She was never involved with creating the mortal realm. She is an et'ada, which is the term for the rest of the gods who didn't die.

Malacath used to be the elven god Trinimac. He was an et'ada, too.

Malacath was Triminac until Boethia ate him.

I was confused by your poll though. Do we mean "best" as in "most good" and "worst" as in "most evil"?

Alternatively it could be "best" as in "most interesting/favorite" and worst as in "least interesting."

I answered as if it were the first question. I think Mehrunes Dagon is obviously the most evil because he just wants to destroy everything. He is followed closely by Molag Bal who wants to enslave us all. Actually I guess it's up to your personal opinion whether enslavement or destruction is worse.

The most good is a harder question. Some common answers are wrong IMO. Meridia is definitely not good from the perspective of men. She was responsible for Umaril the Unfeathered and the enslavement of men at the hands of the Ayleids. She also sent aurorans to attack the 9 divines and their worshipers. Maybe she's good if you're an elf and you want to destroy men and time??

I don't think Azura is a good answer either. She seems rather petty and selfish. She acts like she cares about mortals when it suits her ends.

I think the best answer is Boethia or Sheogorath (at least now that he is seperate from Jyggalagg.) Boethia is the only daedra we know of that explicitly supports Lorkhan's reason for creating the Mundus (basically so mortals could transcend the gods.) Boethia also ate Triminac and cast him out of the Mundus. Sheogorath is just fun and unpredictable, not real motives. So at the very least he's the most not evil.

Oops, I equalized Aedra with Et'ada there, as creation spirits.

It would make for easier choices, surely, since it's hard to even subjectively choose the most 'good' and 'bad' among things like this.

I meant best and worst as in favorite and least favorite but I guess it is up to the interpreter to decide.

I would have said Boethiah before the Skyrim quest with her. He was portrayed as a cooler guy before that, but I still have a soft spot for him as far as Daedra are concerned, being the original god ancestor of the Dunmer and what-not.

Best = Meridia for blessing me with the task of slaying vampires.

Worst = Molag Bal for creating the vile vampires in the first place (maybe I should place him first for giving me a RP purpose)

Best = Azura's Star always there when you need to capture a soul.

Worst = Skeleton Key, seems to be on the way of becoming an irrelevent trinket

Expansion ? Of course I have to say Meridia. Oh the joy of an entire expansion where the object is to cleanse Nirn of vampires.

As for Lorkhan; the Theory of the Lunar Lorkhan states the twin moons Masser and Secunda are Lorkhan's "Flesh-Divinity" - his literal corpse. It says that, like the Aedra, he was a planet (or plane) that participated in creation, but his planet split and his divine spark fell to Nirn. To say anything else is following the Nord heretics or the ravings of a mad man.

Expansion I would say hircine because we haven't actually gone to his realm, although hermaeus mor or sanguine would be cool

I find Malacath to be the most interesting of the Princes. He gives off a very Abaddon-like vibe. Abaddon's identity within religous texts is constantly up for debate, as is Malacath's identity among the Daedra. Some argue that Abaddon is an evil spirit, while others argue that he is God's avenger. Malacath is a spirit of vengeance. There was a time when he was the champion/enforcer of the king of the gods, but now he is ignorantly labeled as a vile demon by most of the people of Tamriel. To draw parallels even further, Abaddon is commonly known as the angel of the pit. Malacath inhabits one of the most difficult-to-access realms of Oblivion - the Ashpit. One of Malacath's names, Malak, translates to "angel" in Hebrew.

There are certainly a good number of Princes that I do not care, but as far as their spheres go, I'd have to say Boethiah is my least favorite. The lord of liars and cowards.

As for Daedric artifacts, I'm gonna go with Scourge.

I want to see the Ashpit mainly because I wish to learn the truth about Malacath's origins.

I think the best artifact is the Saguine Rose mainly for the fact that with it I was able to for a cost of a good few soul gems kill almost every bady without dying or having to waist my Heealth Potions...
