Best armour

Post » Sun Jan 03, 2010 5:28 am

Did a search and can't find exactly what I am after.

I am trying to get my character(lvl 20) the best armour, he has done a few daedric quests and now wields Umbra whilst wearing Saviours hide. I want the BEST armour, the highest armour rating that can be found, if UESP has a page for this, link it cos I can't find it the now (on the old UESP for Morrowind they had a page specifically for this, but now with the array of leveled/non-leveled/enchanted armour it becomes mores difficult.)
Below is what I am wearing now:

Helmet - Something with Increase magic 20%/// I just got Fin Gleam, would be a nice helmet but for the night-eye
Gauntlets - Elven
Cuirass - Saviours
Greaves -Daedric
Boots - Enchanted Elven boots
Shield - Daedric

For the best helmet I need to buy it from the Imperial market, for the others, no idea. An enchanted Daedric cuirass is better than a base Daedric Cuirass, if available.
And I am not worrying about Light/Heavy armour, just the highest armour rating.

[damn, wrong forum, this is for Oblivion lol, mods movey movey?]
Cheers

Here's a link that may help. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Armor

Note that 85 is the highest there is. Anything beyond that is ignored. Since, at level 20, 85 is so easy to get (eg: 4 enchanted clothing items even) that other considerations like looks and durability (if you get hit a lot) come into play.

Sorry that I'm not of much help. My character knows a shield spell for emergencies, doesn't really get hit enough to worry about it and dresses just for fashion. So . . . for vanilla armor, her choice is probably the light Arena raiment. :foodndrink:

The best shield I have come across is "The Gray Aegis". It is non-levelled and does 100% resist magic. That is full imunity from magic. (providing that you dont have any outstanding weaknesses)

Here is a http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/934605-the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion/42189529 telling you how to get the gray aegis (a long with a few other very strong items.):

As for armour, the highest rating is 85 which is achieved fairly easily by enchanting armour with "shield"

Lothran is quite the opposite. He loves when getting hit nothing really happens to him anyway

Also note, that your armor rating for what you will wearing will change, as you become more proficient in either Heavy or Light Armor. Back when my archer wore armor, she wore:
Un-enchanted Green Robe Hood
Leather Cuirass
Dwarven Greaves
Leather Boots

Strictly for looks.

I've been playing a character that doesn't wear any, and I'm finding that the best armor is an enchanted claymore. If they can't get close to you, there's no need for plate and chain. You do have to rush archers, so they switch from their bow, and dodge fireballs from mages, but without armor you can move faster, so that works out OK.

Street clothes enchanted with 25% elemental shield sigil stones. This can be done early as levels 9-12 in the stock game with no cheesy exploits required. It's nice having an unbreakable 75-85 DR and 100% spell effectiveness at the same time.

And since that 3 x 25% can be placed on rings and amulets, you don't even have to wear clothes! :whistling:

This is true except for the level requirement. The 25% elemental shield sigil stones don't become available until level 17 on transcendent sigil stones. :foodndrink:

Level 9-12 give you Latent stones with 16%, so you'd need shirt, pants, shoes, amulet, and a pair of rings to get the 85%. You'd replace those as you level up and use up less slots, but it's certainly viable to use enchantment instead of plate/chain to max out your defense from that level on. Subjacent stones at 13% would only give 78% with all possible clothing slots in use, so I see where the 9-12 comes from, as being the lowest level you could get max DR.

But once you get to level 25, you can go a different direction and get 100% reflect damage instead, which could be combined with 100% resist magic or absorb spell, depending on birthsign/race choices. Just duck those arrows!

Take a real close look at that chart and notice the 25% elemental shield Sigil Stones for both frost and shock in the Latent column near the bottom. It's not a typo on the wiki page as I've picked them both up across several characters. Will still be open to fire damage, but there are several ways to plug that hole using the resist effect.

By golly, you're right! :goodjob:

Fixed by UOP perhaps, for PC players that use it?

Sometimes the UOP bites you back. You benefit from the nerfed items it restores to full usefulness, but sometimes the numbers go the other way.
