Best Books to read

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 8:42 pm

I've been playing Oblivion since it came out, but I was never into the books, now with all the Skyrim hype I'm thinking of reading some.

Which are the best books in the game?

They're all good, depending on your interests.

I like:
Mixed Unit Tactics

A Game at Dinner

Thief of Virtue

Response to Bero's Speech

Vernaccus and Bourlour

Whats-the-books-name... Right, its the Horrors of castle Xyr (or something like that). I think "A game at Dinner" is interesting as well. If we include SI here, I would say "From frog to Man" or something like that.

Skill books, of course :P I don't find a lot of the reading to be interesting but I do enjoy the fact that I'm gaining a skill level without working for it. I do however like the book (I can't recall the name) that explains how humans came to Tamriel because that's the book that helped me figure out that Tamriel isn't the only continent. I was pretty excited because I was told Skyrim would be the last TES game. Now, when you think about it there could be hundreds of other provinces on other continents.

Other than skill books, The Lusty Maid is always a nice choice ;)

I like reading various journals and also many of the books added by cobl. My favorite vanilla book is the one on the artifacts.

I must admit, I love reading people's journals that my Argonian friend finds. The Argonain account books are great as well, if you can find them all. ^_^

http://www.imperial-library.info/

That website has basically every book/document from TES games.

I haven't read many but I strongly suggest

A Dance in the Fire series
The Argonian Account Series (Sequel to A Dance in the Fire)
2920 Series

My favorites are A Dance in Fire, The Argonian Account, and The Real Barenziah. To me those three series are about as good as any short short story in the real world. I was in fact pretty surprised by their quality the first time I read them because I wasn't expecting to enjoy a book that I had read in a video game that much.

There are a lot of other good ones too, but those are the three I would start with. TES games actually make reading the lore fun (unlike Dragon Age *cough*). ;)

I forgot to mention Beggar Prince, too. It's a cool story.

The 2920 series is very informative, if you have the patience to find them all. The Doors of Oblivion is cool if you're into the daedric stuff. I don't usually read the books, but there are some really cool ones if you're willing to look. Problem is, the best ones are usually completely unique and in places you'd never normally look.

My favorites are:

Report: Disaster at Ionith
Response to Bero's Speech
2920, The Last Year of the First Era
The Mirror
The Rear Guard

and a few others.
