Best Build for a Mage

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:09 pm

As many of you may know, I have OCD, and, as a result, I have what some call, "Restart-itis." I suddenly take a closer look at my character, stats, facial appearance, etc., and become unsatisfied, and thus delete him and create a new one. This time around, I want to be a Pure Mage, and I'm looking for suggestions for a good Pure Mage build. I was also hoping for some RP suggestions for such a character as well. As a last request, any tips on how to "overcome my "Restart-itis".....? All help is appreciated and awarded with cookies. :) :cookie:

Sorry, there is simply no such thing as a best build for anything or a perfect character. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Best advice I can give is try to love your character. That means accepting his/her imperfections along with his/her good qualities. Develop a back story and in-game relationships. Imagine conversations and relationships. View your character as more than a collection of statistics.

Race: breton or altmer, sign: mage, atronach, apprentice. Skills: depends on how you level: all magic / or just two as majors.

Hmmm use your OCD to advantage set a list of tasks to complete with that character.
Say all mage guild quests + daedric shrine + any cave or fort in the leyawiin county / black marsh area.
I do this to focus on a character when not roleplaying.
Then to roleplay just come up with a reason why they are persuing these goals, i.e looking for a buried heirloom that only a mystical power can reveil?.
Then when you get bored just refocus your compulsion elsewhere.

Or just create many characters and cycle through them often.

Edit: note this may not a good idea to do for many psychological conditions, and check if it will hinder any treatment you are partaking in.

*chuckles* good one!

I have or use to have restartitis myself. Here's what I did to alleviate it. I have 3 main characters. A mage, thief and ranger/marksman type. Depending on my mood, I play one of the three. All 3 of them are different races. My Dark Elf is the mage. She's the bad girl. Thief is my Ohmes-Raht, she does what she does when she wants to do it. Ranger/Marksman is my nature loving, do the right thing when I can type of girl. It satisfies me immensely as I can play how I want, when I feel like it. I get the best of all worlds doing this.

As far as what class/race/skills, etc. It's pretty subjective to what you want. I always went with what made sense for my particular character. If there was something after I started I felt she needed such as ... Acrobatics. I incorporated that into my RP and she would practice such things in the evening before she went to bed. Or when she would have spare gold, spend some time with a trainer. Doing that help expand the RP and let me work on things I wasn't satisfied with naturally.

Hope this helps you some!
