Best Cheap GPU?

Post » Fri Jun 26, 2009 7:31 pm

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good, cheap GPU (maybe around or a little over $100). My computer is a Compaq Presario CQ5210Y desktop and it has an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE GPU. It has 1 PCI Express x16 slot, 2 PCI Express x1 slots, and 1 PCI slot. Any good ones that you guys can suggest?

A 5670 is probably all you can get.

You could try getting a Nvidia Geforce 450 GTS, it's great for overclocking and is overall a pretty sweet card for the price.

Would I be able to play the original Crysis and the upcoming Red Orchestra 2 and Battlefield 3?

Yeah, on max settings, depending on resolution. Not so sure about Crysis though.
Be sure to get the GTS450 EVGA FTW.

I don't have the FTW version, and Crysis could run on my comp on very high 1680x1050 with about 20-25 FPS. DX10 High with around 30, and DX9 high with around 35. Don't remember DX9 'very high', but I'm pretty sure it clocked in at about 30 FPS.

Soon after, I OC'd it to about 1900 MHZ memory clock, 925 MHZ core clock, using MSI Afterburner, it didn't average very much better, maybe 1-2 FPS more, but the FPS dropped noticeably less in firefights, and allowed for smoother gameplay on DX10 Very High, all at 1680x1050.

But I would recommend the FTW version over this one.

take some second hand graphic card for 100 bucks, you will get more than **** HD5670 try find HD4890/4870 or G9800GTX/GTX+ or some G26x/28x if price allow it

or if you can spend more take HD5770 or how its called.

but im afraid about that CPU which your compaq presario have:

AMD Athlon II X2 215 2.7 GHz

Athlon = not much cache, x2= 2cores (can be ok) but 2.7Ghz? its not much AMD dont have such performance per clock speed as intel core2duo, so maybe this could be biggest limitation or even limiting performance of new graphic card.

And you have 250 Watt some cheap power supply (cheap mean that maybe it will not be able put more than 180-200Watts, maybe it burn :D ) in that machine its another issue which can make bad day after you will put new graphic card inside.

this is why i hate these assembled PCs (Dell, HP...), they dont give much space for upgrading and often are configured to the max (max in terms of its have some part of HW which are on its limit which can hold = power supply)..

We can say that upgrading your PC can be problematic and can cost more than 100 bucks.
I think that better is leave it as it is (mails, youtube, office...) and buy Console or if you have money or will have than buy new one and im sure that lots of people help you pick configuration of HW to fit better for future upgrading and not cost much
