Best choices for Blades recruits?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:25 am

Who did you choose to recruit as a Blade and why?

Like, did you choose NPCs you didn't like and just wanted out of the way/to fulfill the recruitment quest, or did you choose NPCs that would be the best-suited to function as Blades (with 1-handed and heavy armor skills), or did you go for a collection of similar NPCs (using only Companions or housecarls or hirelings, for example)?

Mild spoilers re: potential followers below...

I was thinking of using Uthgerd (female Nord brawler from Bannered Mare, Whiterun), Roggi (hard-drinking male Nord smith from Kynesgrove), and Golldir (male Nord fighter with no purpose after helping him clear out Hillgrund's Tomb)... because they're all Nords (unified), all specialize in 1H weapons and heavy armor (qualified), and none of them belong to some other faction (they're unspoken for, so to speak) - and I also would never regret not marrying them.

Your thoughts/choices?

Thanks.

Kharjo is well suited for it, and he looks cool. Jenassa isn't exactly suited, but still looks cool. Lydia... because she needs to do something.

...

I guess I don't put too much thought into it.

Yeah, that's another good reason. More than likely, you're fast traveling all over the place to catch up with him. Best to get him to sit down somewhere.

I used Uthgerd and Kharjo, because skill and personality-wise they fit the bill. Then I chose the priestess from Azura's shrine for my third because I wanted to finish the damn quest. She does alright

The first playthrough, I picked Mjoll, Aela, and Golldir.

On the second I've got Golldir & Cosnach. I'm not sure who the third might be. Tossing up between Bosmer, Dunmer and Imperial followers at the momment.

I went with Sven first. Mostly because he looks good in heavy armor because he's a big strapping fella.

Then I went with Aela and Ria so that Ria could be with her love forever and help her heal from the death of whats his name. :) Yeah, I'm sappy like that.

Hey... if you get married to a follower can you make them join the blades? If so, do you still get money from their shop?

Derkeethus should be one since he is essential and can never die. Making him a blade will make him stronger, and giving him the right gear shortly afterwards will make him be able to take down Frost Dragons on his own. Quite fun to watch him fight.

Mjoll is also an essential.

Really? Did you try to see if you can kill Mjoll? That is normally the best to test to see if a follower is essential. Idk for sure if Mjoll is or not so I just asking to see if you actually tested it or just assuming it.

She is. She didn't get turned into a pile of ash when I Lightning Stormed a mob of bandits and she ran in the way.

You forgot option 3- abandoning the Blades to die out in their temple, alone and forgotten. I didn't give them anyone, and don't intend to.

Yes and yes. They will still live with you at home, too. Aela still cooks dinner wearing full Blades armor. Impressive.

I brought Annekke, Illia, and Erik the Slayer to be inducted into the Blades. I also considered Kharjo or Ahtar, but felt that Ahtar wasn't honourable enough, and it was far safer for the Khajiit caravans to stick together, so I left Kharjo there as well.

Followers that specialized in One-Handed, Block, Heavy Armor, and Archery. So Uthgerd, Cosnach, and Kharjo.

That Doesn't matter. When a follower join the Blades, the skills they specialized changes. I notice this because I gave Derkeethus full Glass and Daedric. He worn the Glass over Daedric since he was good with Light Armor but after the Blades Training, he prefer Daedric over Glass thus meaning his Heavy Armor must've went up from the training.

I hate the blades, more so, delphene. I cant make my self kill parthax. So, I have never done this, and dont know for sure. If you are in the TG, you could get mijol to join so you could get her out of the city maybe?

You can still do it this without killing Paarthurax.

I went with the local drunks. Its my way to get even with the blades for forcing me (on my first character) to kill my favorite dragon friend.

This is exactly the reason why I have not let Kharjo join the blade. Although if you use him as a follower, it is best that he joins the blade so that he can be found in one place all the time as those Kharjit Caravan can be hard to find.

I saw it as him (Kharjo) simply finding adventure and purpose in the prospect. Sometimes you got move away from your people for that. I suspect the Khajiit are Akavir related as well. If not, oh well.. but if so, it's cool. Because he sports the armor well.

I only recruited one and that was Erandur the priest of Mara from the Vaermina quest. After doing that quest he just sits all by himself in the gloomy tower above Dawnstar. Having him join the Blades gives him a new purpose.

I also added Erik The Slayer, so he could get more experience instead of pretending to be a mercenary. Considered Kharjo as well, and left him with the caravan for the exact same reason.

I ultimately went for Erik The Slayer, Lydia (so she wouldn't be bored to tears anymore sitting on that chair in my house, reproachfully glaring at me because I never took her with me), and J'Zargo (so the Blades organization would get a bit more spiced up with his underhanded tactics. And because I wanted the Blades to become a multicultural organization and have a mage who'd know Heal other (albeit only theoretically). But especially because of his competitive personality. Beware, Delphine, you won't stay headmaster for long ... ).

Just assembled the "Three Stooges" for the Blades yesterday. Golldir, Benor and Cosnach. One's a big chicken (Golldir), one can't get a job as guard (Benor) and the other's an under-employed drunk (Cosnach). Plus they only top out at level 30 so individually they're pretty weak (my character is over 50 now). I gave them decent bows, melee weapons and enchanted jewelry and they're doing O.K. on their dragon hunts.

When they say "I'm a Blade now! I can hardly believe it!" it feels more real considering what losers they were in life before.

I picked Lydia (she was right there with me by the time I got the quest), Mercucio and Mjoll, because those were the three potential followers I ran into first
