Best companion for sneak build.

It sure isn't strong or dog meat. They get me caught every time, other wise I like the fact they distract enemies. But besides that, they always attack first for get stuck.

For a sneaky sniper build I would just go solo.

Not worth the headache.

It`s dogmeat from my experience...

I`ve never seen him attacking enemies first unless enemy is actually aware which general direction I am at.

I also heard he has AGI of 14. ..which is single best AGI among all companions.

..and Dogmeat does have sneak mode..

I suggest Deacon, he stays out of your way and stays quiet, and if you build affinity with him his perk makes you even better at sneaking (with or without him in tow).

If in doubt, leave a companion behind or tell them to "stay" before engaging in an attempt to sneak, depending on what you want to do.

Strong would be the best if you could send him to attack from another direction. You could drag a bathtub behind you and no one would notice.

Yeah. Decoy actually does work if used right.

That said Human Curie was worst companion I had for sneaking. No matter where I go... enemies instantly sense her and all start coming at me at once..

Couldn`t find any good reason to keep her around except for her charming accent.

None. Go solo.

If you really want the company my advice is to tell them to stay back when you snipe.

Deacon is the best stealth companion, even his perk bonus for max affection is stealth related. Maccready isn't that bad as he is based around sniping himself. Other than that they are all pretty much the same. The one that does not work well for stealth is Strong.

My biggest issue is when sniping the companion always decides to walk in front of my gun just as I'm lining up the shot. I can't count how many times I've shot Piper in the back. At least Dogmeat stands below me and doesn't block the scope.

I liked using piper, but she doesn't do much battle wise. Just good company. Maybe i'll give cait a shot.

I used Cait and she didn't attract enemies to me, I read somewhere that she's the only companion who can do that but I am not sure.

I found just going solo works best. I do bring Dog Meat with me but he ends up drawing attention so I need to re-position while he gets the crap beat out of him.

Curie did it all the time to me as well. I just tell her to stay back when I was sniping.

Deacon, as you're actually able to sneak with him close by.

Besides that, sneaking is always better without a companion.

solo is so boring. I like the little comments running around with different companions. And lover's embrace is a plus if you romanced them

Occasionally, I let Curie and Deacon tag along with my character to keep him from being so lonely, but ordinarily I fly solo.

doesn't actually matter.

Just park them at quest entrance.

Move them up occasionally to keep the runback closer.

They help absolutely diddly when it comes to proper stealth/recon.

Just park them & keep handy for carrying your shinys.

Have had success when properly outfitting them & equipping them.

But 9/10 times they will not take a shot until it's too late, or they just get in the way.

57 levels of sneak sniper build later and my answer is no companion. All of them wreck proper sneaking. Get Lone Wanderer 3, never look back. Only time I used companions on the sneak sniper I had was to grind their affinity perks. Other than that, travel alone.

In my opinion the best companion for a sneak build is the Lone Wanderer perk.

Most companions work well enough if you're mindful of making sure you use commands properly.

Outdoors - Once I've found a good vantage point and set up, I'll use the stay command to keep them from engaging until I need it. After a couple of kills I'll then get them to engage whilst I find a new spot far away from where they are...tend to get the enemy looking one way while you go another (companions being spotted doesn't automatically mean you're spotted).

Indoors - Bit more difficult, but one valid option is making sure they have a silenced weapon. Another is using the stay command again and taking point until they're needed.

To top that off. Bear in mind Cait/Nick can pick/hack for you (meaning you can totally avoid having to skill into those perks), and dogmeat's ability to pin mobs down works wonders if you're not using a VATS heavy build.

Lastly, to add to the silenced weapon point I made earlier, I'd always say that caps and ammo are so abundant in this game, it'd be silly not to give companions more than their base weapon. For example, I had a wounding 10mm pistol drop early on in my current playthrough. Gave it to Piper and she absolutely tears through mobs with it.

Ugh, I think I'll go with the lone survivor this around. It was fun getting the companion quests and dialogue. But I rather just commit to stealth all the way this time.
