Ah, well her talking more than the others was good. makes your companion feel more like a person than a meatbag. Oh, and her voice acting is better than 97% of the other voice actors in the game, so thats nice too.

REEEEEEX! (personal preference).

As for most practical (I don't like practical and obvious stuff), I'll say Raul.

Well, it gets annoying when she talks a few steps down from the annoying party-hat dude.

Raul is my favorite, with Cass second since playing a Caravaneer was fun to have her around, and it was like two Caravaneers roaming the Mojave.

Personally my most hated was Boone. He was fun at first, because I picked up in my play through as a retired NCR trooper brought back into the fold. Then I started to hate him, and he got so popular I didn't understand why?

Veronica. Just give her a Super-Heated Saturnite Fist and nothing will ever come near you.

I wish Victor could be a companion, it should be a House exclusive seeing how he is basically property of House.

Oh and a homosixual securitron would have been HILARIOUS. he could have a danty pink scarf and a Spanish accent.... Lolz

He just might, especially against high DT opponents. Besides, why bother giving Boone the overpriced Bozar when a normal LMG is far superior in both DAM and reload-adjusted DPS?

The Bozar spreads less, allows combat from greater distances, hence is a more adequate choice for a Sniper by my account.

Besides, it's cheaper to keep a Brush Gun supplied with ammo than a 5.56 bullet hose.

5.56 Surplus are quite cheap, though.
And you have to do something with your money anyway

Yeah well, try fixing a Tesla Cannon with one of those. Or finding a Laser RCW in Honest Hearts.

WRKs are your friend, then. As said, the ingredients for it are plenty and infinite(you can buy them from vendors, too)
Besides, there's no Raul to drag around in HH ;)

Thing is though that the Bozar, imo, is sort of a failed experiment, the reason being that when you snipe you have a perfect opportunity to get a sneak attack critical (free crit damage) but the Bozar has practically no crit damage. You should use the opportunity to hit like a truck, and yeah, the Bozar's 38 damage sneak attack compared to an Anti-Materiel's 220....well, obvious choice there. Also, Boone has a strength of 7 or 6 I believe; not enough to use the Bozar at optimal performance, and yes, it does matter. His accuracy will be horrible. I once gave him an AMR and noticed he was missing a lot more than I remember him missing. When I switched it out for the Gobi Sniper (a weapon he had strength for) suddenly the misses disappeared.

The only real use for the Bozar, that I've found at least, is for taking out Legion and NCR hit squads. I usually spot the assassins when they are at medium range, and the Bozar with AP rounds can make short work of them before they become a real problem.

I always thought she was bad, but in what way is she good in combat?

I normally use Raul, so I wouldn't know.

It's with an exploit, but a stupidly easy one. You can complete her mission so you can get both of her perks, Calm Heart(+50 HP) and Hand of Vengeance(+15% damage with Guns). I gave her the Medicine Stick and assaulted Quarry Junction with her. I have never cleared it so quickly.

As always depends, plus depends on depending on mods.
Honestly in runs Vicky is great, especially in modded games with DT tweaks and PA.
Cass + shotgun = very good.
Boone good.
Arcade EW's if you're playing them he can drain your ammo, if not playing them then you're forking out for less common ammo.
Lilly late game, big creature, big target, not really much to her.
Rex he's Toto this is the yellow brick road, I'd take him just because.
ED-E well since the bugs are gone / almost? great early, late, middle companion / mobile haulage trailer.

God, cause he's god.
Wow has it been that long, well done on the posting.

Boone is my favorite, he's awesome.

After using many of the different followers, Boone seems to be the only one who does significant damage on Very Hard difficulty. Seems silly that his overpowered hunting rifle should out-power all the other followers.

My favorite would have to be Raul, never go anywhere without him mainly due to him being quite funny.

Though if your looking for a power house output, your best stuck with ED-E & Veronica after Dead Money & Lonesome Road. With the right equipment, you can blow through wave of enemies quite quickly with the two.

Wouldn't Raul with the old vaquero perk and a medicine stick be more powerful?

Old Vaquero increases his rate of fire with revolvers and Lever Action fire arms, but Hand of Vengeance actually increases the damage of all Guns. Its really a toss up since the Medicine Stick is already incredibly powerful, but the clincher for me is the +50 HP Cass gets from Calm Heart.

How do you get both? Do you kill Gloria and Alice after you turn in their papers to Ranger Jackson?

Pretty much. You complete it the peaceful way with absolutely no killing, talk to Cass after you hand in the papers and the quest will finish and Cass will have the Calm Heart perk. Then just kill Gloria and Alice, Cass will get slightly annoyed with you after you kill one of them, but will agree with your new plans. After they are both dead she'll get the Hand of Vengeance perk. It will look like the Calm Heart perk has been taken away in the perk list in your Pipboy, but in game testing shows that she keeps both.

Cass is very good at close to mid ranges with shotguns.

With custom ammo she can take down most anything before it gets into melee.

Lilly late game, big creature, big target, not really much to her.

Lily is, without a doubt, -THE- best defensive companion. You can use her as a human shield better than anyone else. Beyond level 30 she starts getting incredible HP boosts (think she peaks at 1400 HP?), she runs fast as hell and she's very aggressive, and to top it all off, she has a chance of knocking down the opponent with her melee attacks. When I went to fight the Legendary deathclaw on my DID character, I thought long and hard about which character was the best to take with me and eventually decided on Lily. Looking back, I think she's the only companion that could've truly tanked the legendary deathclaw for longer than ~7 seconds.

Hmm you could be right, I did say depends. In this case depending on how much experience and what you tried.. I had little of either it seems.
How did she handle with your LOS? given the location I'd have thought a less hostile medium sized character could have sufficed for those 7 seconds.
Then it also depends on your build.
