Best computer, need the best graphics -mod

Post » Sat Dec 11, 2010 4:48 am

Well my computer is quite a killer. I installed Oblivion again after finding a guide that shows you which mods to get and why... I don't remember the link and my cache got deleted, so does anyone have a link?

My goal before actually starting to play is to install ALL mods that enchant the graphics.. Like Qarls Texture pack, and as I remember the guide had a link to it all.. It started with "1. Install OBSE" or something..

Please, I want to play, and I am going to play, and do EVERYTHING you can in Oblivion, then install the other expansions and repeat the process, all to be ready for skyrim.

Well, first of all, it would be nice to see the specs on your machine.

Other nice to have graphics mods include:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20053 (Requires utility http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15781)
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513
The Unique Landscapes Project
and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000102/

(kudos for whoever gets the inside joke)

You made a previous thread on this in a different Oblivion discussion board? Never the less, you claimed to have 200 FPS right?

Toss in MAEVWD and OBGE along with the HBAO shader. Maybe then you could max your tree and grass display settings but i'm sure with MAEVWD your PC will be crawling on it's knees...

Edit: a quick fact. If you have Dual Graphic Cards SLI enabled, Oblivion cannot access the extra VRAM. It really doesn't matter how powerful your computer is, Oblivion is so resource hungry that it will eat it up in no time.

No kudos to me unless this is like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

Any mods making the rain splatter on the ground and make it look good?

Any mods coloring the map?

I have copied-and replaced all textures whatever you guys have said, a little more and I am ready to test this baby up!

That is my choice. I'm sure there is a 2.0 version but I got lazy when searching.

I never found textures to be a problem, its when you add overhauls with bunch of NPCs or places with alot of objects and lights (especially torches) while using real lights, then it starts to drag.

I would be willing to lay down significant sums of cash on the fact that you don't have anything even close to "the best computer". :P Mind you, neither do I, but... just sayin'.

And mods? That's all subjective.

But if you want the biggest texture replacers and all that, you couldn't go past QTP3, I suppose. And whatever other large archives you can find on the Nexus. Perhaps browse by category, go to "textures" or whatever it's called, and sort by file size, descending. That will give you the largest of them first, and so on.

edit: never mind the other bit.

I was actually gonna make a post similar to this haha. I really just want to know what the best possible graphics mods are for Oblivion, I wanna see if I can bring this new pc to its knees. I know theres better builds then this anyway -

Well ill start by posting my specs of the new PC I just built. Just waiting to pick my new Sandybridge 2600k from Microcenter on Sunday.

CPU - Core i5 2600k (Going to overclock to around 4.7-4.8ghz)
Video Card - MSI Radeon 6970
Motherboard - Asus P8P67 PRO
Ram - 8 GB (2x4GB) G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1333
Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (Ill be installing oblivion / all of the mods onto the SSD)

Ill start with trying some of the mods posted above, anything else I can install to both make oblivion look amazing and bring out all the potential of this computer?

btw, cant wait to start playing oblivion again. Havent had time lately but just switched jobs now more free time to do important things like spend tons of hours on this game :D

Just install MTAEVWD and run TES4LODGen. There you go, you'll be giving your computer a gut-punch every time you play.

If you'd actually prefer to make your game prettier AND still be in any way playable, see my previous post.

I seem to recall someone mad some textures (limited) that were even bigger and better than Qarl. Browse categories on Tesnexus in textures and sort by date. These were within the last 18 months. I think the author started with wood and stone, looked really good, and big.

Quarl's 3 - sounds like you got that

Natural Environments

Koldorn's various retexturings (caves, aylied, sewers, lava)

I also recommend OOO and MMM. In addition to gameplay changes (vast improvements in my opinion) they add new items and creatures and retexture some existing creatures (eg wolves, imps, etc) to make them look much better. And does things like more creatures and NPCs (Goblin caves have lots of Goblins not just a handful). And underwater life.
