They ignore DT, and put a serious dent in your armors condition..
So I've decided to fight deathclaws in my pants, using various DR chemicals when I need to. Some armors do give you bonuses which could be useful, but it's probably better not to wreck your armor with their attacks.
They don't ignore DT, and thus your armor could very well save your life if you're combining it with Med-X.
Your right, I was wrong, they don't ignore DT. Even so when an enemy is dealing 350 damage having a DT of 20 isn't going to save you, I suppose it's useful if you have 85% DR through chems.
Don't know why I thought they had armor penetration, my bad.

I think the Deathclaw gauntlet weapon in FO3 might pierce armor? Maybe that's why. Anyways that's why I said "with Med-x." I actually got hit by a Divide Deathclaw when I had Med-X up, and I think not having my armor on could've killed me there.
