Yea, you've got a good point. When I play I tend to have a middle balance to roleplay/immersion and having fun/power gaming. I just feel really relaxed and feel like a real character in the world when I wander the landscape doing nothing in particular, observing wildlife, seeing where a river leads, just roaming around. It's good to be able to have time to take a break from being a quest robot who just does the next thing in his quest log.
There are times where being able to fly would be great to enhance roaming the land and taking in the sights. I've got the akatosh dragon mod and it's great, but to me that's even more immersion breaking because you'd think everyone would notice a huge dragon in the sky and start to panic or get suspicious. Just having wings on your back seems more believable to not get the townsfolk upset, maybe only fly at night, or once I've gotten the invisibility spell/chameleon gear.
The current options remain a demon race or the avariel flying elves race. Neither are exactly lore friendly, but each have some background lore to I can stretch to fit the world. I can imagine that demons are some variant of a daedra. From there I'd say it was a bored demon who wanted to see the world. Or maybe it was summoned by a reckless conjurer who couldn't control it. The demon then killed the conjurer in a fit of rage through from the spell, but had no desire to return to oblivion, it would disguise itself as a woodland elf and try to experience tamriel. It would have a violent side at times, but usually tries to be calm and resist being overcome by rage again. I use the integratoin quest mod and it adds the daedra seducer race to maybe it'd be one of those and have a similar backstory who wants to fit in with the other daedra at merendin and show the world that not all daedra are bad.
If it was a flying elf, I think the race creator said they lived in the high jerral mountains near skyrim. So I could have a nice cabin in the mountains. I can imagine that these elves would be naturally reclusive, but this would want to see more of the world. It would be frightening at first, but as the elf grows in experience it gets more confident about exploring the world, and then wants to see everything. I will be a big adventure when we finally make it to the coast in anvil.
So I dunno, flying isn't exactly lore friendly, but I'll try to find a way make it work and still have fun flying and exploring. The main concern is a way to fit in with society, a way to toggle wings and any extra stuff so that I wouldn't draw too much attention.
