Most here, including myself, would agree with you. I think that the TES series are the best games ever, even though that means they're better than:
  • The Super Mario Brothers series
  • Baldur's Gate I and II
  • KotOR
  • The Final Fantasy series

and many more. The games above are all great and have left a significant impact on the gaming industry, but none of them top TES.

Moreover, which TES game is the best? Mine's Morrowind, fo sho.

Welcome to the forums! I agree with you there. Oblivion was my first TES game, and I was hooked. I came to TES after playing the Fable games. Let's just say the contrast blew me away.

I'm sort of a career gamer. I've played many games in my time and will play many more. I can't say what my all time favorite game or series is but there is a very short list of games that, no matter how long I have them and how long I play them, I will always go back to when I'm sick of everything else. In no particular order:

-Morrowind
-Oblivion
-Dragon Warrior Monsters
-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
-The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
-Final Fantasy: Legend II

It's quite a feat that the elder scrolls takes up a third of my list of favorite games.

I wouldn't say the best, for this simple reason.
The ES series isn't over yet. Who knows how Bethesda is gonna one up the series with each new installment?

True, they might decide that the main quest is of utmost importance and force you to do it and end the game when you beat it. But I highly doubt it.
TES is a wonderful series, and in fact what first got me interested in gaming.

Agreed, Morrowind is awesome. Oblivion's great and all, but a step in the wrong direction from Morrowind, I think. I hope they'll retrace and start from there for TES: V. In spite of a few problems I have with Oblivion (most of which are fixed by mods, yay for mods!), TES definitely is my #1 most beloved series.

The Elder Scrolls is indeed amazing. I was hooked on Oblivion the first time I saw a friend play it, and I've loved it ever since.

I also enjoy Dragon Age and MMORPGs like Lord of the rings Online, but I always find myself coming back to Oblivion.

i'd say they're among the best ideas and game mechs, yes, but some things i cannot understand:

1) really, how ugly their face / body gen is. the first time i built my female character... oh man, was hard to get her thru. i dont mean they should be model-like, but in this sense the job is poor *at best* (thank god this is one of the best game communities and we have mods).

2) u will find funny, but it seems there has always been some role-play limitations, concerning dialog and behaviour. Yes, u can choose to hack and slash, or sneak or cast awesome spells... but i see very limited options for intelligence-based convesations or non-violent outcomes.

3) Riddles and puzzles - given, i didnt finish the game (far from it) and i've never read a post even considering these. But even Arena had some riddles that if u didnt know the answers, u would not go thru. The best quests in this sense in O were that Lifting the Vale and one about 'sun reflection' , yet nothing great.

Truly, creating ur custom class and being able to forgt the main quest if u want and not being limited at all at gameplay are pluses unmatched by other games. it may just be that , as the minuses are all mod-fixable, then it really ends up being the best game.

I'm a huge fan of sandbox type games and TES series is unquestionably the best one. Mass Effect, GTA and Fable are all close contenders in my book though.

That would be a litter box =)

Your kids play in a sand box (if you have any and live in a country where sand isn't considered a health hazard).

oh - i remember now, litterbox, yes.

i was born and raised in rio de janeiro, so no sandboxes, but straight on the beach. castles, football, thongs and other character-enriching things.

Definitely The Elder Scrolls, it has a total history that inspires me! Bethesda created an own world with their own history, what you want more as an RPG fan? Live a new life in another world? It sounds impossible! Bethesda made it more than possible. No other RPG serie could really make me so alive in the game as TES!
