Best Graphics on VGA's site, why isn't Skyrim an option?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:42 am

To me this is just a shame for Skyrim not being a choice. It obviously has better graphics then all those games.

Here's the link, http://www.spike.com/events/video-game-awards-2011-nominees/voting/best-graphics

You should get your eyes tested then because Skyrim on Ultra doesn't have graphics quality that rivals any of those games. Still there are much better looking 2011 games that arn't on that list.

EDIT: Nevermind I can see that you're trolling..

Your all obviously blind. OBLIVIONS graphics are better then all the games that came out this year(that was 5 years ago), except Skyrim. Im not just talking detail graphics im talking graphics that just make up the whole game!

For all those haters and don't know [censored] when it comes to god like graphics...

I believe your "rage" game was just utterly destroyed. I'm sure these pictures are even low quality and still beat all other game graphics. Skyrim is just too beautiful compared to any games. So natural and realistic.

BF3 isn't even among the nominees, how can you expect Skyrim to be there?

And Rage and LA Noire? What the hell
I appreciate how Rage looks nice from a distance while standing still, but that's it

BF3 doesn't have good graphics? It has no textures AT ALL. Though i love the game anyways

Go play the witcher 2 max with ubersampling and then tell me what god like graphics are. Skyrim grahpics svck on a technical level. The art direction is very good. The general effort put into the design of architecture +lore in the world itself is impressive. But thats art design, the graphics svck. Low resolution everything, terrible textures, etc etc.

Wrong again sir. Skyrim's graphics are better in every place other then just fields. The homes, dungeons, caves, you name it. The misc. items are also better, such as plates, jugs, baskets, you name it, it's all better!

They're really not.

Batman has some pretty damn tasty graphics pretty much everywhere in the game; Skyrim has horrible textures, antialiasing and their building models etc aren't very good. Bethesda had to tradeoff on graphics to create an open world.

Because the graphics themselves are dated? Yeah, the game looks fantastic; but it's because of the art direction and style, not because of the technical qualities of the graphics engine.

Um no you are a blinded really devoted fan. (Don't get me wrong I am a die-hard TeS fan but don't kid yourself like an idiot)
Pic 1 has low res texture rock dead in the middle. There is also obvious overlap texture in the large rock on the top left that connects the dirt to the rock texture. There is also very little proper texture overlap between the water and the rock in the center. I can point out numerous other things and these are all tiny things but again there are games that might not be as good as skyrim game play wise that are VASTLY superior in the graphical department.
This is a GRAPHICS award not a freaking game-play or artistic award. Don't blind yourself. You compare your pics to something from Crysis 1 and you can see why Crysis blows skyrim clear out of the water.

Pic 2: Again low res textures present for the grass directly dead center under the dragon. You can clearly see the framework. Joint of the wings of dragon are also strangely low texture. These are all small tiny things that personally i don't give a damn about but this is a GRAPHICS award. You award the game for GRAPHICS. Even if Rage is a complete crap hole of a game (which it is) it still has amazing textures and graphics which makes it win a GRAPHICS award. (Do i have to repeat myself anymore to nail it into that brain of your?)

Pic 3 Again look where the nirnroot is and where the water touches the ground. AGAIN non-realistic texture overlap. Seriously don't you get it?

I can go on about the rest of teh pics too but seriously its a waste of time.

YES I love the game. YES i think it looks beautiful. But the game doesn't deserve a graphical award because honestly its doesn't have the best graphics out there. High resolution Crysis blows all this out of the water because quite frankly the damn game looks like real life. Skyrim doesn't. Its artistically beautiful but there are way too mayn low textures.

Honestly if you continue with this argument you must be a freaking troll.

Yea RAGE has the best graphics but makes up for that in a bad and short game.

Maybe on the PC, but on the 360, get close to a wall or look straight down it looks like crap. Skyrim's detail is much better

It's about pushing boundaries. Bethesda haven't pushed any because of the constraints of the platforms they've designed the game for.

Cliche'd joke time:

 Have you looked at the textures up close? They're god awful. And the shadows are horrible. Skyrim's engine is beyond dated. Its graphics are nowhere near that of the nominees.

What's funny to me is that Bethesda purchased ID before announcing Skyrim. ID is well known for their graphical engines. So why didn't Bethesda use one of the ID Tech engines they now own? :P

Because they had already started most of their work on the creation engine? No point switching to an engine they nothing about mid-development.

Heh, Crysis is still almost the benchmark 4 years after release! The Witcher 2 is the best thing I've played in the last 2 years in terms of all out splendour.

For art direction, design and ideas Skyrim fares better, Dark Souls/Witcher 2 pips it for me though.

edit: BF3 is pushing the limits a bit too and deserves a mention.

And to add: Which doesn't take away from Skyrim's value as a game either. Heck, the fact that it's graphics are dated goes to show that modern audiences really could care less where in the uncanny valley we're camping, as long as the game is enjoyable.

I have to agree that the web site skipped out on a few games that have incredable graphics. Giving us only those four choises is just guiding rating towards those games alone. Seems suspicious to me.

If talking texture quality, no, even on ultra settings Skyrim falls short compared to other current games, heck even when compared to 2007 games it falls short, when talking art direction, it's good, but nothing to really write home about.

you got to be realistic..skyrim hasn't better graphics then those game, that argument is laughable...skyrim has breathtaking view but the texture quality is simply console-crapp...and faces are still off... doesnt even have direct x 11 support... dont get me wrong - i dont care and enjoy the graphics, because as an rpg'er thats not such an important part for me...but batman does have WAY better graphics so does rage

I think you mean 'couldn't care less', and in some ways you have a point. While I know a handful of people who 'tried' the game with a pirate copy to check it out, and subsequently decided not to buy because it's an obvious console port, most of the PC player I know are enjoying it.

Bingo.

Graphics are NOT Skyrim's strong suit. Actually most textures make me want to gouge my eyes out when I look at them for too long.

How could a game in which you can individually count the shadow pixels be considered for any sort of graphics award???

Yeah guys.

Real science by real men in lab coats has proven that Skyrim has the best graphics ever made ever, even surpassing that of God's award-winning game, Real Life.

Lol wut? comparing a console game to Witcher 2!? Blasphemy!

But yes, Witcher 2 has some amazing visuals and particularly character models. The animations are occasionally off, but it's a relatively low budget game IIRC and still gives out free content so it's all good.

Here's a couple of screenies for people who haven't seen it:

Battlefield 3 isn't even nearly as pretty for the most part, although some of their facial modelling is nice:
