Best Graphics on VGA's site, why isn't Skyrim an option?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:11 am

To me this is just a shame for Skyrim not being a choice. It obviously has better graphics then all those games.

Here's the link, http://www.spike.com/events/video-game-awards-2011-nominees/voting/best-graphics

Not really, It has good graphics but it does not surpass any of those. Even if the texture and shadow quality was good Skyrim lack the attention to detail all those other games have. I have heard Rage has no repeating textures (not sure if true but from what I have seen it just may be). Uncharted has been renowned for its fantastic graphics and atmosphere. B:AA uses the Unreal engine, nuff said.

Whatever? Bethesda specifically puts tons of details in their games. They make sure the graphics are more amazing.

Yea RAGE has the best graphics but makes up for that in a bad and short game.

Again wrong, they add a lot of detail for the massive areas the have built but that pa;es in comparison to the very polished looking stuff other games have done.

Skyrim has fantastic detail for it's small install size. I'll leave it at that.

That's due to an amazing compression system and low resolution textures but true nonetheless.

Umm their is a difference between graphical quality and the quality you put into enviroment detail.

Graphical would be like comparing Minecraft < Skyrim < Battlefield 3.

While the Quality which I think you mean to say is the attention of detail put into a game.

I don't find the graphics that amazing, but I do enjoy the immersion and the amount of layers put into the game to make it more immersive than its past titles. I don't like the Vanilla shadows that much though, I run on the highest settings but they are still jagged and flicker constantly.

Yeah, I've seen better graphics in games older than Skyrim.

That really doesn't matter to me, hence why I play this game more than anything else now... but, it doesn't deserve Best Graphics award if it's outdone by games 2 years older than it.

Wrong again sir. Skyrim's graphics are better in every place other then just fields. The homes, dungeons, caves, you name it. The misc. items are also better, such as plates, jugs, baskets, you name it, it's all better!

You guys serious? Skyrims graphics are awesome. The water is especially well done. I will concede that the shadows are horrible and there is low res textures but on the whole I think it should at least be a contender. The character models are amazing as well

Art style =/= Graphics

Skyrim's Graphics are very comparable to previous games such as Oblivion and Fallout 3 (mainly Fallout 3) their art style is in fact better then those games but technically its almost the exact same as it was in Oblivion.

Either way BF3 or Witcher 2 are the only real competitors in such category and with the absence of such titles really shows how much credibility VGA has

Your all obviously blind. OBLIVIONS graphics are better then all the games that came out this year(that was 5 years ago), except Skyrim. Im not just talking detail graphics im talking graphics that just make up the whole game!

I used to have a 'super vga' graphics card. It couldn't run Skyrim, though.

OP and a lot of you are confusing graphics with the level of detail and artistic style. They are different.

Graphics could be thought of as how close to photo-realistic ("photo-realistic" has nothing to do with realism BTW) the game is, which, like others have said is outdone by other games.

The distant mountains in Skyrim are amazing, but some of the textures are pretty low res, and you can plainly see where the land stops rendering if you climb a hill.

I still love the look though, I find myself stopping and taking screenshots all the time.

I'm just really disappointed that its not nominated for best score. It doesn't make any sense why they didn't include it. The score is epic and amazing and is far better then the other nominees. I can see why they didn't include it in the graphics section though.

no your blind Crysis came a year afterwards and blew that game and every game out of the water up to Witcher 2, Crysis 2 (DX11 patch) and BF3.

It's better than Oblivion and a +1 for doing that on an old engine, but the graphic is relatively worse than all the other contemporary games I have played this year. The resolution of objects is just painfully, thats the sacrifice they made to make the game more accessible to wider audiences though.

That being said, I am totally not surprised that the game is not on the list, or not rewarded in term of graphic.

Can someone slap you? You can look at games like MW3 and look at a poster, guess what. That poster was just a picture off the internet they pasted into the game. Other than...Skyrim is all HAND DRAWN

Graphics are good for an open world game, but some outfits in particular bug me. Rushing water too.

At this point I think the OP is just trolling but I shall feed it anyway.
I made this in about an hour in UDK yesterday and it already has better graphic quality than skyrim, IMO anyway

things to note
-light shafts
-good texture quality
-you can't see it but the walls crumble if you shoot them and lights dynamically shine through the holes
