Best House to Purchase?

Post » Sun Dec 18, 2011 3:04 pm

So I have saved up some cash and I was wondering which house would be best to purchase? I have already bought Breezehome in Whiterun, and (partially due to bugs) I was less than impressed. There was no way for me to display weapons (there was supposed to be something you could mount them on, but there isn't), no display boxes, mannequins for armor, and not nearly enough space for books (I am an avid book collector, haha).

Now I am aligned with the Imperial Legion so I figure I might want to buy the manor in Solitude, because if I buy the one in Windhelm, won't I be constantly attacked? Even if not, I will be in hostile territory. I did some research, and it looks like the house in Windhelm has more display cases and that type of thing. Is there anyone on here who owns them both and can make a sounds recommendation? I need a house with plenty of space for books, a decent amount of space for weapons to put on display, and a few mannequins for armor. Also, I am hoping for a house with an alchemy lab and blacksmithing tools, since I'm a skilled alchemist and smith.

Do the houses come with servants? I remember when I got the one in Whiterun I got some lady who would follow my orders, but I can't remember whether she was given to me with the house or just because I became a Thane of Whiterun.

What are the decorations like in the Solitude manor? Does it look good?

The honey place in Riften is pretty nice, I only have 2 homes though, the honey one in Riften and Breezehome in Whiterun.

I like Hjerim. It's nice and open. As well as a lot of weapon racks, cases, and mannequins.

Spoiler
If you finish the Imperial quest line you capture Windhelm for the Empire

The one in Windhelm is my favourate, it's a shame the others don't have much of an Armory. and the Windhelm house also has a secret room.
