Best item in Solstheim for an Assassin?

Post » Fri Oct 31, 2014 12:38 am

Hi all,

I'm playing a female khajiit assassin and following the Dark Brotherhood quest line. I've never done this quest before so it's pretty fun. I'm in no rush to finish (stopped leveling at 9 to prevent Dawn Guard escalation and stalled the MQ by avoiding Bleak Falls Barrow) and have a good enough Sneak to risk heading over to Solstheim. Aside from alchemical ingredients, is there a must-have item on the island for an assassin?

Thanks much!

I'm not sure there is. I guess you could use smithing and enchanting to make some good armor and weapons. Enchanting and smithing go well together; even for an assassin.

No special items that I know of other than what you can pull off of Miraak's corpse or those heavy armor artifacts that you get from that dig. Other than that, nothing that I see that useful for an assassin.

The best thing I can think of is the Poison Rune spell.

yeah, there are some pretty new spells that you can get from Neloth and a thing to enchant staff's. But as far as weapon artifacts go, none that I know of other than 2 different armor sets you can get and a ring that gives you two free spells to cast. That and Miraak's gear. Good for mages. If you're wanting good enchanted weapons and armor, a majority of it is much better at a skill of 100 both in enchanting and smithing. So you're own custom weapons will always do much more damage than daedric artifacts or weapons you find laying around in tombs.

If you want a Dagger the Bound Dagger spell is always a win. If you like Bows then the Glass Bow of the Stag Prince can make your character very tough if you put in the work to activate it's potential. Also in the Bow category is the Dwarven Black Bow of Fate which is likely one of the most useful weapons in the game when you consider that it can work early or late game. Also Mind Control Spiders are very fun and useful for stealthy characters so try those. Lastly find those Black Books because their upgrades and powers can enhance just about any kind of character

Remember that many of the Apprentice Spells added by the Dragonborn DLC require a Skill of 40 or higher to get, My characters will not find a Tome of Summon Seeker with a Conjuration Skill of 39. Wind and Sand requires an Alteration Skill of 40.

The Deathbrand Weapons and Armor require a Minimum Level of 35 before the Quest becomes active.

Many of the Weapons that can be found and looted from NPC's are based on the Level of the Player, but I think the Weapons on Solsthiem begin at Elven. The Deathlords usually have Ebony Melee Weapons at any Level.

There is a chance of finding something like a Nordic Dagger of High Chaos at Level 9, but it will be in a Boss chest at the end of a Dungeon full of nasty opponents.

There is the Dwarven Black Bow of Fate.

If you use Illusion, the Frenzy rune is also good.

You also get a cool assassin looking companion who will follow you back to Skyrim.

Good tips, all - thanks!

Since I stopped leveling my PC at 9, she is too weak to venture to Solstheim. Once she levels up and gets some significant sneak and archery perks (not to mention health points), it'll be ok.

I really like the Black Bow of Fate suggestion as my assassin is an archer.

The poison rune has been on my mind, but you need pretty good restoration and I'm nowhere near good enough (magicka is still at 100). I did play an illusionist once who got the Frenzy rune. It was awesome fun, especially because I never picked Silent Casting. Just putting down the rune attracted the baddies and then, bam! havoc and mayhem ensue.

The cool-looking companion might attract too much attention, don't you think? A khajiit walking around with an obedient Dwarves Sphere.... hmmm don't see that very often. Too bad you can't ask it to just stand guard somewhere. Or can you?

You can make the follower wait for you and guard the entrance to the dungeon. And if your sneaking mission fails and things get physical, you get out and get him to clear it up for you.
