Best level to venture to the Glowing Sea

Post » Sun Dec 06, 2015 6:45 am

I've been pursuing the main quest pretty aggressively (my character wants his son back, now), and ignoring most of the other content. So I'm at level 14 and have just been given the quest to go the Glowing Sea. The best radiation gear I have is the basic power armor, which I've modded very little. A little poking around reveals that the Glowing Sea is very dangerous, probably doubly so for my low level character. What level/gear is recommended for heading into the Glowing Sea?

You can sneak past the few things you encounter along the way or be ready for a couple tough fights. Depending how close you'd start it may be more of a journey than I did. I the sea itself I saw one or two creatures in the distance and a big fight of them fighting each other I could have avoided both. You have good sight range. I'd say 20 s or 30 s to fight them. I was op when I went. Should have been more dramatic. For you it will be fearful as it should.

When you have enough caps for a Hazmat suit.

There was only one fight I could not sneak past, some really anoying flying sting things.

The first time I went there it was all about having a solid stack of RADX and Radaway. Everything else was managable even at a lower level.

I went through in a suit of power armor which had lead lining.
Rad resist was over 1000 in it, not to mention better protection than a Hazmat Suit offers.

Radiation isn't much of a worry, honestly, as long as you have Rad-X and Radaway.

Now, if you were getting hit with 20+ radiation per second? It might matter a bit. But you aren't.

It's not dangerous, per se, just freaking annoying since this area houses the game's big baddies. Take two steps, and you're pretty much getting clawed, stung, or slammed in to. I don't know if it's scripted, but when I entered the area in daylight, that was pretty much svcked away by one of those nuclear storms, making visibility drop.

It's pretty much a straight shot to the target, but over some rough terrain. Power armor is helpful both in rads protection and damage control, but it's not required. Nor is the radiation suit. Just bring plenty of Rad-X and Radaway, stay out of the "water", and you should make it if you're careful with scoping the landscape for friends.

I'm pretty sure the Stingwing reception is scripted, because these things literally popped right in front of me from thin air, which doesn't happen unless it's a script.

Getting to the destination: fought a Yao Guai, 3 Stingwings, 2 Radscorpions, and 1 Deathclaw (scripted).

Leaving the destination, though wanting to explore: 5 Stingwings, 3 Radscorpions (one was Albino), too many Ghouls to count (and one fuuuuugly looking Glowing One - Looked like on of the Kardashian girls... wait... it looked like all of them). The Deathclaws were easy to avoid since the sun was out.

The biggest piece of advice, thought: c.o.m.b.a.t. s.h.o.t.g.u.n. Quick eject drum, max non-automatic chassis, and 500+ shotgun shells.

The best common weapon in the game, bar none. I wouldn't dare walk into the area without it, but that's just my two caps. ;)

Good luck!

(you're going to need it)
