Best Mods for New User ?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:28 pm

Hello Morrowind Modding Gurus - Before I ask a few questions, yes.... I did do some reading here and I will try not to ask stupid questions that you probably hear from newer guys all the time. I played thru most of Morrowind GOTY (on PC) back in 2003 and never did make it everywhere. When I completed the three main quests, I added in about 4 or 5 well known mods (for the time). They were something like Giants Ultimate 2.7.1, Wakim's Improvements, Something Door Locks, Something Lighted Windows, Blood and Gore something and one or two of the official plugins. Now, almost eight years later, I find myself missing Morrowind, which I consider to be the best game ever with Deus Ex (and way better than stock Oblivion). I saw that the top two recommendations seem to be MW Code Patch and MW Patch Project (by BTB). I also learned about the MGE and a new collection of mods from an Italian group called Morrowind Overhaul. So my questions are:

1 - Can I combine all four of these together without es or esm conflicts ?
2 - What is the modern day equivalent to Giants Ultimate ? (I really like this mod cause it added dozens of new monsters and very high level vampire lords)
3 - If I use the MW Code Patch, does that mean Wakim's Improvements are not needed ? What is the 2011 version of Wakim's Improvements ?
4 - Is this stuff already in the Morrowind Overhaul by the Italian guys ? (Dont know much about their project) If not, does anyone put out one giant super mod that includes many dozens of all the best smaller mods all packaged into one master esm file ?
5 - If you can only recommend five mods to add to the standard GOTY edition, what would they be ? I am interested in in bug and game enhancement first (like Wakim's adjustments), new enemies second (or master mods which makes enemies more balanced and harder) and graphics improvement, third. A nice addition would be redone combat (one of the few things in Oblivion I enjoyed more than Morrowind) mods. Better hair, faces, bodies, extra quests, special mansions, etc..... down the list. Other mods that extend the game (like Sea of Destiny or Tamriel Rebuilt), not at all. Mods that feature ancient Egypt or sci-fi settings, not at all.

Thanks - Jay

Hi,

The code patch, the MW Patch Project and MGE are already included in Morrowind Overhaul.

1- All of that stuff is included in the Overhaul
2- GIANTS is still good, maybe you can have a look at http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8326 by PirateLord
3- No, the code patch doesn't replace Wakim's Game improvements, maybe a good alternative is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7904, that is based on the Wakim's
4- No, CreaturesX and BTB Game Improvements aren't included in the Graphics & Sound part of Morrowind Overhaul. They are going to be included in the upcoming Game Experience Pack.
5- http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tesnexus.com%2Fdownloads%2Ffile.php%3Fid%3D19510&rct=j&q=morrowind%20code%20patch&ei=Q2NzTZTEDI7Bswb-5YWEDg&usg=AFQjCNGFET6yTQ_yrxlk3_eHYmuGqpgG1A&sig2=tuLBv-XrsFc7HCUMUuSXng&cad=rja + http://btb2.free.fr/files/morrowind_patch.zip for the bugs, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7904 for the balancing, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8326 for the creatures, http://sourceforge.net/projects/morrgraphext/files/Beta%20Releases/MGE%203.8%2B%20SVN%20builds/mge3.8.2-rev.0178.7z/download for the graphics, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=4967 (+ the http://btb2.free.fr/files/morrowind_advanced.zip by BTB) is good too to make the game harder, and finally: http://www.psychodogstudios.com/betterbodies/.

Thank you very much Kingpix for your reply. So, what is the order of install then ? First, I follow the instructions for Morrowind Overhaul (which has CP, MW PP and MGE) and get that setup. Then, can I add in BTB Game Improvements without conflicting Morrowind Overhaul ? Then Creatures X, then Morrowind Advanced ? All of this I can add without mod conflicts or messing up Morrowind Overhaul or the mods messing up each other ?

BTW, your video on Youtube looks very, very, nice. In my trips to Italy, I enjoyed the Forum, the Pantheon, Tuscany and gelatto the most. I may have to add MW to the list :)

Sure the order that you said is alright.
Just make sure to delete "More Better Clothes.esp" and "Better Clothes_v1.1.esp" from Morrowind Overhaul and use "Better Clothes Complete (BTB Edit).esp" included in BTB Game Improvements instead :)

Kingpix, do you recommend Giants Ultimate still ? Is it compatible with Morrowind Overhaul ? And, if I used it would I install it at the same point where I named Creatures X above ? Seems GU has more monsters and more variation, but still researching. TY so far for info !

Yeah, it's compatible, but I prefer CreaturesX, it's so much better in quality.

Giants also breaks a bunch of legal issues, and is usually shunned by the community for that reason.
Creatures is superior.

The Overhaul is one option, although many people prefer to pick there own mods by hand. That can be quite fun in itself. :)

Hey, thanks guys. Okay, I will try Creatures X then since I have never tried it. I guess I have my four or five mods about ready to start installing. That leaves one final question; In Morrowind Overhaul, BTB's Improvements or Morrowind Advanced, is combat upgraded to what you find in Oblivion ? If it is not, what is the best universally recommended combat improvement mod (that does not mess up what you guys already recommended above) ?

Getting to work right now - thanks
