Well, I installed a ton of mods and got overwhelmed by the new content and functions.
Then I suggest you do not do this again. At least, not for a while. Not until you are accustomed to a great many mods, of various kinds, and so can more or less guess how well a given mod might work for you, from that point onwards. Instead, in the meantime, try a few mods, and maybe adding one at a time, testing, and repeating that procedure as needed. Additionally, if you are looking to use a large number of mods and/or fairly complex ones, you
must start to use Wrye Bash for the installation, configuration and uninstallation of mods, if you have not already.
just looking for some friendly gamer advice on a list of mods to try out next. I'm looking for a big list, like 10+ mods.
Without being more specific, all you will get is other people's preferences - and what use will they be to
you, given that your own tastes and needs will differ, inevitably.
That said, here is what I posted a while ago, in response to an OP along the lines of "what mods are essential", from memory: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1211132-new-to-the-game-what-mods-do-you-find-necessary-for-oblivion/page__p__18130121#entry18130121
I doubt that my tastes and needs are
anywhere near your own, but there you go. I suppose it will prove to be a good example of that to which I was referring, above.
edit: If you have specific kinds of mods in mind, try posting in the Mod Detectives thread instead - it is there for exactly that purpose.
