Best Nvidia Drivers for GTX 580 3GB versions - tri-SLI?

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 5:56 pm

Well I went and sold my 1.5GB version GTX 580's and dropped in three Nvidia GTX 580's 3GB versions. My system CPU (990X) is sitting nicely at 4.7Ghz at a cool 50c under load, up to 70c at times. GPU's hover at 32c (2D) and jump up to 75c (load/gaming). Most games I see a major improvement running Surround at 5980x1080 resolution now. Much smoother game play.

However, Crysis 2 with everything turned on to the max (which Frank should handle without issue) is having issues doing anything more than 35FPS at this resolution. I would like to know if anyone else has a similiar config that may be able to suggest a better driver version. How are the new 280 drivers? Worth upgrading? I am on the 275 ones right now and they have their moments.

This machine was built to handle anything I throw at it with 12GB of DDR3, the Core i7 990X and the 3 GTX 580 3GB versions (and the GT 520 as a dedicated PhysX) water cooled through a robust cooling system - nice new clean OS install etc - so why the low FPS? This system should be tearing up this game like there is no tomorrow - any ideas?

NOTE: I can run Unigine Heaven Benchmark 2.1, with everything maxed out there as well at 5980x1080 I run a smooth 47FPS or higher, Benchmark shows me at 48FPS. I should be able to tear into Crysis 2 - but for some reason it is not happening as smooth.

Yes Frank would get a nice boost in C2 from the 280 driver.

Love the way you named your PC :D

My guess is scaling 3-way is probably not perfect in this game, test out just two on dual monitors 'just' to see if they run better proportionally to three, if they do then it's probably not scaling at all well.

The driver might fix a scaling issue if there is one, but I wouldn't know as I'm only lucky enough to own one 580.

lol, well "Frank" was named by a guy who asked me "WTF are you building Frankenstein?" - then the next time we talked he asked how Mr. Frank N Stein was doing - thus the name. It stuck.

OK, will give the 280 drivers a shot - hope it does not freak out. I initially used the 280's in the last fresh OS load, but went back to the 275's when I had problems with setting the GT 520 as the dedicated PhysX. I have to admit though, these three GTX 580 3GB versions do run pretty smooth.

Two screen gaming kind of stinks IMO because the center where I need to shoot is in the bezels. So its either single screen or three screen. I wish that Crytek had considered us few and far between and made it where my HUD was centered, no matter 1920x1080 or 5980x1080, it should always be in the middle screen but isnt - svcks because I am used to seeing it out of the bottom corner of my vision without having to turn way right or left to read it.

Ok so you loose some when you gain others - but still gotta whine about it.
