Ok, so before Skyrim, I'm going to make a hunter/mage in a "fend for yourself" style. So I need a bountiful place to hunt with an inn or cave nearby.

The area surrounding the Imperial City is quite good for hunting. Plenty of inns too. Blackwood would be worth checking out as well.

That could easily describe, any area in the game.

If you stay hunting in one area, you will gradually deplete it and it will not respawn until you leave the area for at least 3 game days. You might be better off to migrate with your prey from area to area. Almost everywhere in the game is good for hunting. Spend a few days hunting one area, then move on.
