Best place to live in new vegas

Post » Wed Sep 15, 2010 1:40 pm

I have to put my vote in for Novac as well. Easy run from the zone in to the room and there are crafting benchs and a doctor right in town for clearing up any radiation. All for 100 caps (or free if you're willing to wait to do the quests). Only down side is no campfire for cooking. Have to GECK one in the motel's courtyard sometime.

There is two loading screens dude.

That's two too many :). JK, but really multiple loading screens really kill any "home" real estate.

In general, I find Novac to have the best atmosphere and is pretty convenient.

My personal favorite, kinda of a random choice, was Mountain Shadow Campground. It is north east of the 188 trading post. I made a home in that trailer with a bed inside, next to the broken down truck. My reason was it was walking distance to fresh water and the 188 trading post.

My suggestion: pick a random place and make it your home. It can be fun to stock pile food, weapons, knick-knacks, and all other kind of oddities. Deathclaw claw collection anyone? :)

I think the devs went the extra mile with giving us great places to live in F:NV.

I've always just lived in Novac myself, if the Lucky 38 didnt have 200 load screens to get into the suit though I would probably live there. On my next run though im probably going to find a place a little more specific to the NCR though, as long as I can be sure that none of my stuff is going to get jacked when im not there.

Reading this reminded me of that one BoS Paladin from Falls Church Metro in F3 who always found your house and stole weapons and that.

I am finished with pretty much every quest except endings and I want to find a good place to live and I can't decide where I should live. Where do you think the best place to live is and why?

The lucky 38 of course! Best hotel in vegas.

I try not to use fast travel when I play so Novac has always been my place of choice for storage as it pretty much keeps me in the middle of everything. The thought of walking too and from Jacobs town every time I wanted to unload kit kinda makes me want to watch paint dry...

Well in the heart of mr. Doom's idea Camp McCarran cleared out save for the merchant guy in the back is pretty fun because of tsa jokes, pretending u have afleet of working airplanes and screwing ncr royally.
:spoilers:

u can become the khan"s leader and have a gang home
then of course jacobtown with super mutants and snow which is a nice place

you can become the khans leader? how? and where would u live in jacobstown?

Big fan of caves myself, I play a guerilla type; caves and out of the way places where one wouldn't expect to find a notorious war-criminal, assassin and killer of hundreds. Cannibal Johnson's Cave is alright but I'm thinking of moving up to Zion, will probably take Big Mountain though once I get the chance.

Oh, well sorry obsidian didn't make their loading screen standards to your specs.

I too want to settle down in zion collecting resources and skipping around in the water until the next DLC maybe the general store because the shelves would look cool decorated with my hunts and weapons

The Novac Hotel is what i used for my entire play. But i don't like the feel of extreme luxury in a post-apocalyptic game. Besides, the three load screens required to get into the Lucky 38 is one-to-two load screens too many. No, not for any standards of personal impatience, but rather the standards of what's possible elsewhere.

Maybe the designers made it a hassle on purpose to balance out the swank accomodations. Who knows. But with the wide-spread loading issues (i would regularly have up to five minute wait times with each screen), the strip pushes the idea of housing there into the realm of excruciating.

On my next play through, i'm seriously considering the no-loading required house due north of Miguel's pawn shop. You can even jump through one of the corners between two walls to get in! It has everything but a (functioning) fridge, and is located in the Fallout equivelant of quiet suburbia.

It was originally pointed out in the thread 'Coolest house ever in Vegas'.

Harper's Shack is pretty cool. It's got plenty of shelves and tables for display, and plenty of lockers and boxes for storage. It also has a reloading and workbench and a bunkbed. On the downside it isn't exactly the 'high roller' looking place and there are Deathclaws a distance away outside uphill by a cave full of even more. I just place a bunch of mines around the area and steer clear of them and everything is fine.

On this playthrough I keep stuff scattered all around the wasteland, and it just so happens that that particular location houses a few things for me...Let me just be honest..it svcks.
It seems nice...but the Vipers constantly respawn there and have to be dealt with every time you go back.

Well, poop sticks.

On the plus side, the long load times seem to have gone away with the latest patch. At least while playing Honest Hearts.

I've tried using other places, but i always get this feeling that i'll lose all my stuff so i always use the Lucky 38 & Novac. I just can't seem to trust any other places. Btw i count 4 loading screens for the Lucky 38. 1 for fast travel, 1 into the strip, 2 into your room. Atleast thats what i have to deal with on the xbox; oh and the 2min long loading screens.

I'll go with the Lucky 38. Bar,casino, etc. Plus, i'm pretty sure it's only place in NV that you can purchase items (furniture & other stuff) for... i kinda liked the themes you could buy for your house in FO3, woulda been cool to have 'em in NV too (imo). But i suppose decorating your house(s) with 1,000 Dinky the Dinosaur toys is just as good :fallout:
